Feels a bit too early to put a thread up for the midweek games so I’ll stick the midweek predictions on here for now and re-post them on a new thread once the weekend fixtures are finished

Yeah I agree with all that Sean. Chelsea should really be winning this. Their strength is Liverpool’s achilles heel but Liverpool just seem to have a knack of pulling out a performance against the big sides when least expected to. They may not win, granted. But I can’t see them losing at home

Looks like I’m the only one to go for a Liverpool win in the later game today. I really can’t see Liverpool losing this one at home but I’ve been wrong before!

Talk now of Mkhitaryan going back to Dortmund after Jose publicly criticised his recent form. Mkhi looked poor when he first started getting games at Utd then seemed to really find his feet and was involved in everything it seemed. This season he just hasn’t got going at all though.
What is it with players at Dortmund though, looking like world beaters in the yellow of BVB and failing to perform once they leave and ending up returning. Sahin, Goetze, Kagawa, now Mhki?

I wonder where else he could go. Without wanting to talk down Spurs at all, I can’t imagine any of the (other!) top sides wanting to take the risk on him at his age and with the injury problems he has had recently. He’d want huge wages but would anyone be prepared to pay those any more?
It wouldn’t surprise me to see him go to Bayern actually to take over from Robben. The league won’t be as physically demanding there. Again though, the wages would be a stumbling block as Bayern aren’t known as being huge spenders.

Finally figured out how to just show the results for a given week so here’s the results from last week which confirm Goatistuta as the best predictor for the last set of fixtures:

Jim, I’m not sure of the permutations regarding top spot as I think 3 sides could all end up on 12 points but Utd not getting top spot would mean having to lose at home to Moscow. Frankly, if we lose that, we don’t deserve top spot. We should have more than enough depth in the squad to not need to play a full strength side. José may start with a strong side and hope to go a goal up early so he can bring them off

In theory it does Jim, but we’re through barring a 7-0 home defeat against Moscow so I’m not sure it will make much of a difference. We have pretty good squad depth so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Poor from Utd after a good first half. What is is about that Basel stadium that sees PL clubs often struggling to get anything there? The result won’t really matter to Utd but a defeat is never good for the morale regardless.

Unbelievable achievement Spurs topping this group. It definitely feels like the PL sides are ready to start dominating this competition again

Cracking week for Goatistuta. No wonder he was asking for the table!

200/1 is a good price for Iceland. I don’t for a minute think they’ll do anything but, after Leicester, you just never know. Other than outsiders, I think my money would be on France or Brazil next year

Good article and hard to argue with any of the selections. Some incredible teams there. Thanks for sharing 999

That’s it Paxton. If City were to draw against Leicester and lose at OT, assuming all 3 of City, Utd and Spurs win their other games, the gap is suddenly back to 3 points between City and Utd/Spurs with Chelsea only a point behind.
A lot of IFs I know but it can all change very quickly. I still fancy City for the title but I can understand City fans’ cautious approach to the topic.

Brian, I had a good look around and couldn’t understand where the problem was. Out of interest, how do you sign into the site? Do you click on the sign-in link and sign in on the dedicated sign in page or do you use the sign in widget on the home page (the one where you don’t leave the homepage)? Hope that makes sense.
Does anyone else have this problem?

10th November 2017 at 9:01 pm in reply to: England V Germany – Friday 8pm – VAR to be introduced at Wembley! #7414Not bad so far for a very depleted England side. Loftus-Cheek showing plenty of promise. I don’t really get Tammy Abraham. To me, he just looks like a clumsier version of Welbeck. He’ll probably go and score now but in the few games I’ve seen him, he just hasn’t impressed me much

I don’t necessarily think he’s disillusioned Jim. I just think the challenge at PSG is more suited to him than the Utd job. It’s a huge job at Utd. The pressure is enormous and the chance of winning things much less than at the likes of PSG.
Like most top level managers, Wenger aside, he’s not interested in staying around for years and years. He’s after adding to his trophy cabinet as he’s obsessed with winning.
He’s done a year and a half already. If he sees out his 3 years, he’ll probably be amongst the longest serving managers in the league at the time. He’s not going to be around much longer either way imo

As for José, I can understand the attraction at PSG. Of course, he’s had tons of money at Utd, there’s no denying that. I still don’t think Utd would have ever been able to spend 400mil on Mbappe and Neymar or whatever it was but we’re certainly not skint.
However, it would take double, triple what Utd have spent to become the only dominant force in the league. Even with that spending, I don’t think we’d be heading and shoulders above the rest as there’s just so much money around the rest of the league.
Whereas at PSG, his ego and desire for winning trophies would be fed much easier. Not only would he win the league every season with ease but he’d have a much better chance at winning the CL imo as his players would be much more fresh coming from a less competitive league.
I don’t think he’ll go yet as his ego would never forgive him for quitting and giving up against Pep. I think that’s the only thing keeping him around. In some ways, I admire his desire to win, as annoying as he can be sometimes. I’d much rather that than him being from the Wenger school of accepting mediocrity.
