Nutts…I think you’re spot on with your predictions there. I just can’t see FSG sanctioning the sale of Course – the backlash amongst fans and maybe the team management would be immense. As for VVD I would say 60-40 in favour of him being at Anfield by Aug 31st

I don’t think anyone would argue VVD is a better bet than Sakho, but I do feel Sakho is being underrated on here. Nutts- Sakho was actually pretty consistent when he did play. He may have looked like an accident waiting to happen but that accident very rarely actually happened!

The worst one in there was that it was Julian bloody Dicks who scored the last goal in front of the standing Kop. When you think of all the legends who did score in that goal, it’s somewhat disappointing that it was someone whose Liverpool career should never have happened!

Cantona…people like to say Torres downed tools in protest at our American owners. I prefer to think that the injuries caught up with him, and that is backed up by the fact he wasnt great after he left. I think the club was guilty by playing him when he wasn’t fully fit, and he simply lost his pace and then his confidence. Great shame cos he was a fantastic player in his prime

One of the funniest Premiership moments was Robbie Fowler’s goal celebration in front of the Everton fans at Anfield, when he ‘snorted’ the goal line in response to their smackhead taunts. And then Houlier’s explanation that it was a celebration learnt from Rigobert Song, something about cows grazing in the field as I remember.
Also Paolo di Canio push on the referee and the way the ref fell in stages!

I think and hope that you’re right in that FSG must be aware of the potential backlash if they let Couts go. Surely he will only go if and when he starts agitating for a move. I really think it would be a disaster for us if he went now, with so little time till the end of the window, the season starting this weekend and, of course, with Lallana being out for 3 months. Hendo just needs his heel to play up again and we are seriously understaffed in that part of the field.

Zk – Sakho is only 27, so he probably has another 5 years at the top left. But my point still stands, if neither Palace or Southampton want him, what do we do with him? A depreciating asset sat in the reserves is no good for club or player

Yeah, as you can see I didn’t try too hard to think of more expensive defenders than Rio!! I have to admit I don’t know enough about VVD to know whether he is worth that money. I suppose I’ve seen a bit of him over the last couple of years, and he’s looked pretty good, but it’s difficult to make a judgement until he’s actually playing for you…and by that time, it’s too late!!

You say it’s the going rate for a top centre back…but it’s not though, is it? The fee mooted is a world record fee. I don’t know what is the current world record fee for a defender, is it still Rio? We need a centre back more than any other position, that is a fact, at least until Phil goes…going in to the season with Dejan Lovren as a certain starter is worrying, but my point is we have one at the club who is not even likely to be getting splinters in his backside over the next few weeks. It does appear as though Sakho and Klopp’s relationship has irrevocably broken down, and if he doesn’t trust Sakho, I guess we, as Liverpool fans, have to trust him.
If there are no takers for Sakho, we are then stuck with him till January paying him £100k a week. £1.5m for an asset we are not using!!

For me as a Liverpool fan, it has been 25 years of hurt, by and large, but there have been good bits. The 2 successive 4-3 Newcastle win’s in, I think, ’97 and ’98. They were fantastic matches. And the other standout moment for me was our 4-1 win at Old Trafford in 2009 when Torres made a top class centre back in Vidic look very ordinary.
As an aside, who remembers in the early Sky/Premiership days the bizarre half time entertainment? Giant inflatable Sumo wrestling anyone?

Ed…I really don’t see our Phil as a Neymar replacement. Different sort of player on the field, and just as relevantly different sort of person off the field. By that, I mean he is less marketable than Neymar…less showy, less brash, less cocky, shyer if you like. I’ve hardly ever seen an interview with Phil in the 5 years he’s been at Anfield. ..that won’t sell the shirts!
Of course, the other point is that he isn’t, as yet, half the player Neymar is. I just think it would be a strange move by both parties. If he were to win the league at Anfield ( a big if I know before you all jump on that!), they would name a stand after him and he would be forever remembered and adored. At Barca, they expect it at least every other year. Would he get in the Barca team? Guess he would at €100+m but then that is teal pressure.
Still hoping for another season from him at Anfield then we sell him for €200m!!

It’s pathetic on the part of Neymar. He already has more money than he could ever spend, he’s already playing at one of the best clubs in the world, and he chooses to play in Ligue Un. Poor professional decision on his part in my humble opinion
