Martinez didn’t look completely sharp yesterday Sean, admittedly and had a couple of mistakes. Aside from those mistakes, there are few better than him at playing those line breaking passes from deep and the way he resists the press as good as any defender in the league for me. With sharpness, he’ll be so important to our build up. Genuinely wouldn’t swap him for any defender in the league and there’s nobody else in our side I could say that for. Proper warrior as well

Happy with that in the end. Still some problems there but as Alfie said, we lose that game last season. The difference a fit Martinez makes to this side is amazing. Mazraoui looks an absolute bargain also at €15mil

Fair points Sean and Threeps. Let’s see. As I said, I haven’t watched him much since he went to Bayern aside from a few CL games. I do find it reassuring that Bayern fans are so sad to see him go but that will count for little if he doesn’t perform.

I think there are so many unknowns this season. Chelsea and Liverpool will get off to fliers with the new manager bounce. The time to judge them both will be after Christmas in the run in. Utd are a big unknown. As Sean said, if they go back to that open midfield, Ten Hag will be hanging on and the shouts for Ruud to step in will be deafening. Spurs will play their high risk football which will look good in the stats but ultimately deliver very little imo. Arsenal and City a step above the rest and will, I think, have a closely fought battle for the league. City will surely go into the market for some firepower with Alvarez now gone and Bobb injured. Can’t wait now!_____________________________

Hope you’re all well! Not been on for a while as I’ve been busy. Not sure on De Ligt myself but I know some Bayern fans and they’re really annoyed by it. They had a petition which got 80,000 signatures asking for him to be kept so he was clearly popular amongst the fans. Could go either way for me

I think he’ll be decent enough without being a revolutionary signing for us. This obsession with turning us into Ajax 2.0 is confusing and downright dangerous in the (likely) event Ten Hag is given his marching orders unless he starts this season absolutely flying.

Agree with all that Sean. It was terribly managed. I think in fairness to Ineos, though, they never intended to be making this kind of decision themselves. The people they’re putting in place to manage these things going forward are still on gardening leave, which I think helps explain the uncertainty. That’s my hope anyway. It certainly sounded like Ten Hag was a goner before the cup final. It doesn’t change much for me though. If he doesn’t get off to a flyer, he’ll be gone pretty sharpish.

Well I’m regretting not listening to Mikus’ advice now 😆. Incredible and deserved, quite frankly. Commiserations to the City lads but City just weren’t that good today. Haaland so quiet again in a big game. Crazy that Ten Hag has won 2 cups since he came in and yet we were so poor in the league this season.

Who do you think would be good though Sean? There’s nobody obvious. McKenna looks like a crazy option, he really does. But don’t forget Utd know him really well already. So this wouldn’t just be on the back of back to back promotions. It would be based on what they know from his time at Utd as a coach and he was rated extremely highly. I genuinely can’t think of a manager aside from Tuchel or Poch who Utd could go for.

Yeah it’s important here to differentiate between just terrible signings and which have been the biggest waste of money. Pogba, for instance, wasn’t a terrible signing. He just didn’t live up to the hype or his fee. But he was excellent at times. We’ve signed far, far worse players, that’s for sure.
