I´ve genuinely not seen a more stupid comparison since davinci tried to compare Texeira to Coutinho, then I mean the Texeira that was in our u21 squad to Coutinho, I´ve forgotten his first name. Are you for real? Do you not see the difference between the two managers if you just read their quotes? It´s like comparing Ferguson to Ten Hag! I´m genuinely perplexed by the comparison. Cause the only two viable option I see for you to compare the two is either you got asperger or are just autistic. So which is it? I think we are all curious?

He does and I’ve been saying it pretty much since the moment we managed to get both Ekitike and Isak. Same goes for Songman and Bingo, if I remember right. There’s no doubt Isak is a good striker… when he’s fit.
For me, the issue is that we don’t tend to thrive with out‑and‑out strikers. Not recently, anyway. Ekitike fits our style far better, more roaming, more fluid, able to drift wide when the wingers cut inside.
Isak can run the channels, sure, but he’s not the profile we’ve historically built around. Ekitike was the one we should’ve stuck with, and we could’ve banked the Isak money to strengthen other areas.Isak was imo the attempted cherry on the top for Hughes and Edwards ego.
But that being said, lets hope whoever takes over gets him on the pitch and scoring.
Sorry for all the edits, but i could stop it making all the writing bold haha

31st May 2026 at 10:29 am #247635It never fails to surprise me how short some supporters memories are.
Isak was a target before the 24/25 season even finished.
Multiple rumours were coming out saying we were interested in him.
They were dismissed by some as Newc didn’t want to sell and he had multiple years left on his contract. Wasn’t gonna be exactly easy to pry him away from Newc.Isak had just scored 27 goals in 42 appearances for Newc (that was without European football).
The previous year he had scored 25 in 40 appearances.
He was considered a hot property.
It was believed that there was a private agreement between Isak and Newc that he could leave that summer and as Newc had PSR/FFP issues it could be a good time to strike.
Newc reneged on that private agreement and Isak took his own actions.
Newc also failed to land several of their transfer targets in the window, including Ekitike. Liverpool had been open from early on they were interested in both players. At Newc, Isak could run and could press.
He was one of the best 2 strikers in the league.
He scored 52 goals across the previous 2 seasons within 82 appearances.Let’s see what a new manager can get out of him with new tactics.
He can’t however play every minute of every game._____________________________

31st May 2026 at 10:37 am #247636I said about Isak’s pressing after seeing him not engage versus us even when a player was within 10m. Looked like he was under instruction to protect his injury issues. But deeper research shows he was pretty good overall at pressing. And his lane running will suit a quick transition style.
For context, Newcastle were not a high pressing team in the 24/25 season.
[Player 2024/2025] [ Pressures per 90mins]
[ Dominic Solanke | ~33–36 |
| Darwin Núñez | ~30–35 |
| Nicolas Jackson | ~27–31 |
| Ollie Watkins | ~22–26 |
| Alexander Isak | ~19–25 |
| Erling Haaland | ~18–22_____________________________

31st May 2026 at 10:46 am #247637I mentioned this a few months ago Threeps.
Isak was actually very good at pressing at Newc.
Liverpool of 25/26 were a poor pressing team seemingly under instruction. As you keep mentioning yourself, people need to look beyond individual players to get answers to why we performed the way we did.
It baffles me why, even at this stage when the season is over, that some STILL can’t see it._____________________________

31st May 2026 at 11:07 am #247641Re: Songman’s post from yesterday>> OK, we can ignore the Shankly / Slot comparisons as it we’re talking about different times and different pressures. However, there is a lot of validity to the 5 points that were made after that.
Most people are behind the idea of Iraola and yes, his playing style is much more akin to heavy metal as everyone (players and fans) has been calling for so all sounds good in that respect. However, just watched The Sunday Supplement and the caveat being made is that it was easier to make that level of intensity work with Bournemouth’s fixture schedule last season, but a big step up when there is a hard midweek game nearly every week when you’ve got Champions League to factor in as well.

31st May 2026 at 11:17 am #247642Yes that’s why concerns remain about whether he can make the step up.
However there are few (if any) managers available that have the required substance.
My greater concern is that the powers that be didn’t pursue Alonso enough.
Why is that?
Did they think he wasn’t capable enough?
He won the Bundesliga with a very unfancied team and had a very good win rate at Madrid.
So that doesn’t add up.Or was it that he didn’t just want to be a “head coach” and the powers that he didn’t like that?
That concerns me.I’m not a fan of this “head coach” situation.

31st May 2026 at 11:17 am #247643The logic of some fans and pundits is rather amusing when they say that Slot won the league with “Klopp’s team”, which I don’t agree with btw.
This implies that Slot is only as good as the team he has in front of him.
Well, if this is true, then what is absolutely true also, is that Slot lost the title with Hughes’ team, severely weakened by his utterly shambolic recruitment last year.
What’s fair is fair.
I still can’t believe Hughes is still in a job after totally, incompetently spending £452m, with little to show for it. Other clubs would have sacked him by now.

31st May 2026 at 11:29 am #247650Prospective managers, before they joined (or did not join) Liverpool:
Klopp won Bundesliga twice and German FA Cup once.
Slot won Eredivvisie and Dutch FA Cup once.
Iraola won Cypriot Super Cup 2018 with Larnaca.
Hoeneß won German FA Cup 2025
Sage won French FA Cup 2026, and finished 2nd in Logue 1

31st May 2026 at 11:47 am #247657Dominic King (Liverpool correspondent) said that Liverpool were never in for Xabi Alonso so, in their eyes, they haven’t slipped up by getting their timings wrong with Slot’s sacking. The other key point is that the plan to appoint Etienne Reijnen was genuine and that he’d already done his good-byes at Feyenoord hence implying that the intention, even as late as Thursday of this week, was to retain Slot. However, something (currently unknown) occurred on Friday to reverse everything.

31st May 2026 at 12:03 pm #247659Fair comments on isak chums. Lets see how it all unfolds
Also iarola did not start well with Bournemouth. Took time and many were calling for him to be sacked after 6 months.
Red h, ye its a very intense way of playing which is why he will need a decent squad if he comes in
If he got us playing and working hard like Bournemouth it will be a success bit history shows that this very difficult to reciprocate at a bigger club

31st May 2026 at 12:07 pm #247661I agree with everything that Ginger has said about Alonso. His managerial record and LFC connections place him above Iraola in my opinion, but something clearly didn’t sit right with the LFC hierarchy. It could well have been the Manager vs Head Coach issue – but it’s unlikely that the true facts will ever be disclosed.
Every situation/personnel is/are different, but when you look at promising young managers moving from the Brighton / Brentford / Bournemouth collection of clubs up to the ‘bigger’ outfits e.g. Potter and Frank, things very quickly fell apart on the big stage. You can’t necessarily assume that the same will occur with Iraola, but there is some concerning evidence on that score.

31st May 2026 at 12:14 pm #247665I think Alonso represented a power issue the club didn’t want. He only joined Chelsea with certain assurances, ones I assume he probably wouldn’t get at Liverpool. Even if/when Edwards and Hughes leave I think the model is in place where we have a DoF / head coach system no matter who replaces them.
I would have preferred a manager system with Alonso personally.

31st May 2026 at 12:20 pm #247667I agree with a role being Manager than Head Coach. Maybe with Iraola, that could happen with those terms. It seems from history, Hughes has good connections. If negotiated positively and a deal struck, then who knows.

31st May 2026 at 1:27 pm #247675Well, you don’t join Chelsea if you want to be the main man in charge. I don’t believe that. Noone has since Mourinho.
Perhaps Enrique now wants to test his skills in England after winning CL twice? Would be my number one, but Iraola probably number two. I haven’t seen any of Hoeness to be able to judge in all honesty. And looking at the results of Stuttgart, they do look good, but not great.

31st May 2026 at 1:40 pm #247679The timing of Konate bailing (won’t shed a tear) and Slot getting his P45 is very coincidental. I just wonder whether Konate was ‘the straw….’ and a ‘right, that’s it’ action was then required. We need to stop the bleed. Dunno. Just hypotesising.
