Would be inclined to agree Bingo. Lots of people’s mindsets were that they were comparing Nunez to Haaland and expected Nunez to immediately take off like Haaland. Instead it was frustration that emerged from him literally not finding his feet and needing more time to establish himself. It was the weight also of a hefty 80 million plus price tag.
It’s water under the bridge and if there are possibilities, I would happily welcome him back. He’s only 26 too so plenty of shelf-life to resurrect himself if allowed and if he wanted to.

Yes, and another example of Gakpo prioritising himself over the team was seen just over a year ago when we beat Spurs to clinch the PL title. Remember him unveiling his ‘I belong to Jesus’ under-layer just after he scored. I can’t recall him doing it before or since and it was obviously pre-meditated, but I can’t get my head around why you would want to turn such a collective team celebration into something that is ‘all about me’ !
And apart from the above ……personally, Cody, I couldn’t give a toss.

Sean I kind of feel like Slot was set up to fail in hindsight, I don´t know if was him or someone else that convinced him to take on the whole English media in his first interview but first impressions matter.
When you confront the whole English media on your first introduction to make a name for yourself then you are setting yourself up to fail.
When you have a heartfelt sit down with a journalist you trust one on one as a introduction to the fans, you win them over.
When I watch the two full interviews I am amazed by how long Slot got away with it, cause the difference in approach is so gargantuan. We got a man trying to prove that he is ready for the job in the first interview, scratching his head for a full minute almost before the interview starts. He is so nervous, it´s like he just figured out how big the job is for the first time, with a wall of journalist waiting for him to make a mistake. Thankfully the journalists there took it easy on him, they could have asked him what credentials he actually had for a job like this for their first question and he would not have been able to answer them. He had not control there, just like he had no control over anything during his 2 seasons.
Iraole on the other hand is all smiles, I wanted to work with him after seeing the first two minutes of the interview, he was so enthusiastic and heartfelt. He really wanted to get to know the fans, the city, the culture and everything. Immediately tried to connect with the fans with his experience from Bilbao who he sees a lot of similarities with as a city. I even agree with that… He did not for one second try to be the smartest in the room, he just wanted to connect. In a way he reminds me of a young Klopp except not as aggressive. I mean in terms of CHARISMA so people can understand me. That smile makes me wanna play for him! He is that coach that is shouting at you from the sideline, trying to get you to adjust your position or something and you wanna do it because he is so positive.
I remember a transition season we had back in the day, I think I was around 14-15, we did not have that many lads training so we had to blend youth categories, so basically just junior and senior but going from being a junior in a toxic side, cause the older lads were assholes. To be a senior in a positive side taught me a lot. We also had a transition from a very technical coach who was actually great to a very relaxed one that focused on teamwork and chemistry. That earlier season we finished 12th in our division with the more technical trainer and more toxic atmosphere. The season after we finished 4th nationwide in some strange play-off series and that was kind of unheard of as the Reykjavík clubs were always somehow favored.
I really think Slot was just too arrogant for his own well being. Having a positive head coach, manager or what ever we are supposed to call him will make a difference. The only couple of clutch games we had was when Slot was actually on the sideline trying to rile up the players but he figured that out a year too late.

My fear is, he jas never won anything or managed in the cl. Its an absolutely massive leap for him. I like him. I like his character. Hes worked hard to get to hear but i really hope it doesnt end up

“Like most Spanish managers” is a lazy stereotype. Guardiola, Arteta, Alonso, Emery and Iraola all have very different personalities and management styles.
There’s plenty of evidence Iraola is demanding and picks on merit, but very little that he’s “cold and ruthless”. Don’t be confused that one means the other must exist.

No it’s not, as usual you’re clueless again. They all have a cold, ruthless, business-first streak, but of course, you can’t see it.
The stats don’t lie, most of the best and successful managers in the Big 5 leagues and the CL are Spanish e.g. Guardiola, Enrique, Arteta, Alonso and Benitez.

Klopp was “all smiles and all heart also”, but damn, he viciously tore into players, like he did once to Robbo on the pitch, for example, when required. Behind closed doors, he was even worse.

Iraola is calm, relaxed, happy off the pitch but on the pitch is passionate and demanding and if you don’t fit his idea of the type of player needed in that position and/or don’t understand your roles in and out of possession, he won’t play you. You have to tick every box first.
A combination of calm authority coupled with high expectations from his players (as it should be…..).

Rob I quite liked his interview today, it´s the first time he faces the media and he did really well, I liked how he talked a number of things. Gave Harvey Elliott a good shout, talked about their work for the past week with the u21 players and how he thought Elliott had extra motivation to make a impact at the club. He mentions the players already working on something and how he loves them all. Then everything he talks about football or low blocks is like music to my ears, he just wants to make everyone use a low block against us. Control the game from start to finish. He reminds me of Klopp in many ways, he obviously wants to protect his players and make them better, I always found Slot so rigid in every presser. He always wanted to prove how smart he is and Iraola wants to make his reputation talk for him on the other hand. I think that might be the difference between them, that Slot always had something to prove to the press. Meanwhile Iraola actually believes he got the job on merit.
