Give him time to get us relegated Happy? That’s the form we’re in under him. For a man who normally loves a stat you seem to be ignoring a shitload that are a massive inditement on how poor we have been under Amorim. I’m all for giving time to managers when you can see a clear direction and progress but just don’t see it under Amorim. His stubbornness and naivety shows how little experience he has at the highest level. He’ll probably have a decent career in Spain or Italy but is not the man to get us back challenging.

@happyhurling – I have no issue with giving Amorim time if we saw, at the very least, one of the following:
– Good results in terms of scores and points
– A significant improvement in attacking play and quality of football that is actually entertaining
– An improved all round squad spirit and clear desire from the players to give their all for the badgeThe reality is that we have seen absolutely none of the above and all are actually probably worse off than before Amorim joined:
– Results speak for themselves – utter disaster
– Despite spending 200m on attacking players, our matches remain boring with minimal goals and non-entertaining football
– The players look demoralized and uninterested (as they have for a long time mind you, but nothing has really improved it seems, and this was one area where I thought Amorim would have no problem with).So yeah… you mentioned Arteta and Klopp as comparisons, but the difference is that you could clearly see improvements in certain areas when they came in… can we say the same about Amorim? Absolutely not…

@MUFC – I wouldn’t give Amorim a cent towards the team unless we significantly improve in the next 2 months… if we don’t improve and he continues to look like a dead-man walking but we have money available for transfers, I’d place the signing decisions solely with Wilcox without even speaking to Amorim.
Wilcox needs to build this squad, not Amorim at this stage.

@Happy .. you say we played 442 when out of possession against Sunderland.. please do state who played which position.. because we all watched that match and i can’t remember when our shape in or out of possession ever changing from 343 … i do agree about the front 3 having digressed with a paltry of 3 league goals between them so far this season

Sympathy – I think there has been a significant improvement in our attacking play though? Do you not remember Hojlund, Zirkzee and Garnacho last season? We’ve not had the best of luck (epitomised by Bruno forgetting how to score penalties!) but we have had the most shots in the league, and the most passes into the final 3rd and (certainly up until last week) the highest expected goals. We were nowhere near those metrics last season at any point. That’s improvement and that’s why i felt like the Sunderland result was waiting – sooner or later we’ll start putting these chances away with our new £200m front line.
Ally McCoist talks a lot of sense and he said he feels like Amorim needs a lot more time. He said if you compare our defence and our midfield against any of the other top teams we’re miles off it. Amorim hasn’t bought any defenders or midfielders. Dorgu, a 20-year old kid, is clearly a player for 2 or 3 years from now like Leon. This is a long term project now, he’s got the forward line he wants and now the next windows will be focussing on the midfield, defence and a wingbacks.
If the club is clever then what they’ll do is invest in the squad with the players they want for the future – with a view to them being able to play in a different system if a new manager is brought in. Unlike only signing Dutch players for Ten Haag for example!
I said at the beginning of the season we need to temper our expectations. I believe we probably should have a couple more points on the board and if we did we’d be roughly where we need to be. But ss Fabrizio said only an absolute disaster, downing tools from the players, would result in Amorim being fired not individual results. We’re going to have some bad defeats, some bad results and there will be plenty of pressure on the manager this season – but this is the cultural reset we’ve been needing for a decade.

@happyhurling – we made chances last year too – just couldn’t score them. Same as this year. The build up play isn’t exciting at all though – it’s all very tedious and luck-dependant … haven’t seen any of our wingers dribble past their men at pace, or see full backs overlapping, or seeing intricate passing… I remember the first game of Ole’s managerial reign against Cardiff and the players were playing one-touch passes in and around the penalty area and scoring… that’s the kind of football we want to see.

I honestly think Amad should be switched to LWB, if you’re going to play him as a wing back then he should be on the left wing where he can overlap Cunha and cross off his stronger foot or drive to the by-line and square the ball from a cut-back. I think we’re massively hampered by the fact that we do not have proper wing backs who can properly cross a ball. Dorgu is capable as his cross for Hojlund in pre-season showed but he needs to learn how to do it properly and consistently.

I wouldn’t read anything into Ratcliffe’s comments: he also said Ten Hag is a great manager who will spend years at the club… a few short months later he was gone.
He obviously has to show support to Amorim publicly (can’t exactly say he’s shit and will be gone soon) but, behind closed doors, I’m sure he’s putting a lot of pressure on the manager.

I think he wants to imply to the squad members that aren’t working for the club, that think they’re bigger than it, who think they’ll get a new lease of life when a new manager arrives, that they’ll be gone before Amorim is and that Wilcox, Berrada and he will remember any shit they cause and they’ll be long gone before any of him, Wilcox or Berrada are. If the takeover ru.ours are true then Ratcliff might go but at least one of Berrada and Wilcox will stay on.

Well Wilcox did push for Sesko over Watkins…. apparently tried to stop Amorim from getting the job because of his love of 3-4-3 and no other formation. But I know what you mean, no-one at board level in the club has inspired any fan with confidence since David Gill left.
