26th August 2026 at 8:36 am #254448This is what happens when there’s too many chefs in the kitchen. Vivell has the record to back up his signings especially from Salzburg to Leipzig. He specifically signs young, hungry and talented players who will fit the club’s way of playing.
I won’t be surprised if he does leave because he had a similar experience at Chelsea and it wasn’t satisfactory.

26th August 2026 at 1:29 pm #254462Nobody gives a flying fuck because Baleba was shite last season and we’ve spent £70m on a reserve player. In 2 years time they could be saying it was fantastic business by us but based on our recent history that’s highly unlikely.

26th August 2026 at 1:36 pm #254464Doesn’t Vivell identify the targets and Wilcox gets the deals done?

26th August 2026 at 3:39 pm #254487Wilcox favours “experienced premier league players” whereas Vivell identifies young players with huge potential; The Lammens over Emi Martinez and Sesko over Watkins are perfect examples.

26th August 2026 at 5:24 pm #254500We can’t afford very good experienced premier league players.

26th August 2026 at 5:55 pm #254503The thing is, and I do know if my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle, but we would have the money had we wanted two. Anderson went for just under what Santos and Baleba signed for, so we could have got him, Tonali, Fernendes and still signed Telimans. Then £10-£20m for a cheap back up.
Baleba for £70m isn’t cheap and Santos wasn’t dirt cheap either. But neither stood out last year. I really hope the scouts have seen something to suggest Baleba will get his old form back (but he only had it one year anyway).
You have to cut your cloth accordingly and it doesn’t help we can’t sell Ugarte, Zirkee or Rashford.

26th August 2026 at 6:27 pm #254505@Jumpers – Matt Hargreaves (ex Adidas) is the Director of Football Negotiations handling all the club’s incoming and outgoing transfers and contract negotiations etc, not Wilcox. Presumably he will have to work within the financial parameters laid down by Berrada and Wilcox once an overall transfer budget has been set.

26th August 2026 at 7:03 pm #254511Wilcox is the Director of Football, so he oversees all football operations. He will oversee the player recruitment side, but probably won’t get into too much detail.
He may say sign us a 21-24 year old box to box player with PL experience.
He would also oversee the scouting structure etc so he will be aware of players out there, and he oversees the data side of things so he will know which midfielders makes the most tackles, win second balls, cover most ground etc.

26th August 2026 at 7:54 pm #254514Not sure I’d have gone for any of Anderson, Tonali or Fernandes irrespective of the price. Of course, they could all end up being brilliant, but not from what I’ve seen.

26th August 2026 at 9:29 pm #254518The young Charlton midfield, Mwamba, looks good. Worth keeping an eye on.

26th August 2026 at 11:05 pm #254526@blacky67 I think he’s done enough for us, maybe he can help scouser for a few seasons.

27th August 2026 at 7:22 am #254529Need a CB one at least. Our whole back line is average. Will get slated for saying this but I think Mazraoui is quite good when he plays as a CB.

27th August 2026 at 7:54 am #254531All these clubs spending and in many cases wasting 100’s of millions on nothing more than decent or even bang average players, yet not one of them has even thought to offer us a brass farthing for Rashford. What does that tell us?

27th August 2026 at 9:06 am #254538Dead right blacky, mediocrity going for 100 mill or close to. Crazy window. Barcola next, good player but 120 mill? A decent full back should have him in the third row several times in the first few minutes, that’ll sort it.

27th August 2026 at 9:43 am #254548Yeah, I remember Barcola coming on as sub in the ECL final against Arsenal and he absolutely stunk it out, suspect that was the moment Enrique decided to cash in on him.

27th August 2026 at 10:08 am #254552Afraid we set the trend with 80m for that useless fucker Antony which is equivalent to 100m theses days lol! One of the reasons we’re now skint.

27th August 2026 at 2:44 pm #254593I have to say, I’ve found Utd’s transfer efforts this window confusing. Like you chaps, I treat all the speculation about targets with a massive dose of salt, but if there has been any truth to any of it, we seem to have failed to pick up any of our main targets. And honestly, whilst I don’t claim to know huge amounts about the 3 MF signings, are they really taking us to the next level. Look, I think Carrick has done a great job so far with what he had. Before he joined we were struggling and the team lacked cohesion, results and performances weren’t great. Even so, TBH I think our main improvement was getting the results. Few performances I saw could I describe as good. We lacked control, played only on the break and looked on the edge of a disaster most of the time. But had the resilience to pull through. But that’s not enough to challenge for titles, which is where we should be. Maybe the board at Utd have a different set of objectives, and they haven’t been helped by injury to Ugarte preventing his sale, and lack of interest in Zirkzee and Rashford, meaning the budget was less than hoped. But the never ending saga over a LB is weird as well. So many options mentioned, and we still haven’t made a buy. I think I may be one of the few on here who thinks Shaw is a good player (when fit). But he no longer seems to make the forward runs he used to do so adds little to attack – perhaps he’s trying to manage his fitness – and could break down any time. We really need a top player to take the strain at LB. Another I like is Mount. His work rate is superb, he presses, has energy and is good in tight places. But is injured again, and will no doubt get more injuries during the season. We simply cannot rely on him to give us a full season. It’s harsh, but we shouldn’t be trying to squeeze more out of a player that’s just not physically up to it. I’d like to be proven wrong because I think when fit, he is a real asset, but I just don’t see it. There’s been a lot of talk about getting 3 MFs in, I personally think we needed 4 and should have gone for the French guy – Manu Kone was it, or Adam Wharton. If money was no object, I’d have had Alex Scott as well who has always impressed me – especially when he’s played against Utd unfortunately. And surely there must have been some MFs worth looking at post World Cup. And then there’s the defence………oh christ…..
