@Dee-Spot on mate, Baleba’s potential is off the roof with his physic and technic. I have watched Gomes and would have him way before Mainoo.

3rd February 2026 at 12:18 am #238435Replacing Casemiro with a proper, out and out DM is essential. Despite his age, everything, he hasn’t started 9 games this season and we’ve lost every single one of them….. It’s not just potential technique and ability, it’s about reading the game and influencing those around you.

3rd February 2026 at 8:18 am #238439Would Leon Goretzka be worth getting for free but only for 2 years? Him with new CM signings as experience and as a mentor, bit like Cas.

3rd February 2026 at 9:32 am #238441Goretzka is only 30, he’s not over the hill by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t think it would do any harm to have an older player, especially if our entire central midfield, not including Bruno, would be under 24. Anderson, if we were to get him, is the oldest of our targets currently at 23. That’s a lot of pressure to put on young players in what has generally been an underperforming midfield without Casemiro. I’m not saying it has to be Goretzka, but should we be considering an older midfielder to be a guide?

3rd February 2026 at 10:39 am #238446He’s an absolute fucking knacker, and he is actually 31 years old in 3 days time. He would want at least a 3 year deal on a big wage, and it’s about fucking time we stopped signing other clubs unwanted cast off’s and started operating like a world class club in the transfer market once again, simple as that.

3rd February 2026 at 11:36 am #238453As I said, doesn’t have to be Goretzka, just an experienced midfielder

3rd February 2026 at 11:51 am #238454Agreed, but not 31 year old’s that have only really been squad players previously. I’d be looking at someone who’s in the 26/27 age bracket if possible but I’m struggling to come up with a name.
I’m also not impressed in the slightest with Baleba, especially at anything north of 40 million quid because he’s hardly completed a full game for Brighton this season and did fuck all at the AFCON, so how in fucks name can he be worth anything more?_____________________________

3rd February 2026 at 11:59 am #238455Ederson from Atalanta is out of contract in 2027, he’s an option. Ruben Neves is out of contract in the summer. Weston McKennie is also out of contract this summer, not sure he’s who we’d want though

3rd February 2026 at 12:57 pm #238464Baleba has been shite this season, either he’s been found out or he can’t handle the pressure of being linked to us. This would be a massive gamble and not sure we could afford to take the risk.

3rd February 2026 at 1:17 pm #238466Always thought we’d be getting Ederson from Atalanta. But then we signed Ugarte…!

3rd February 2026 at 1:41 pm #238467Goretzka on a free and on a wage that aligns with our current structure, would be phenomenal. People underestimate how important have a serial winner in the squad is: just look at how Casemiro continues to have full restpect of both players and coaches, and continues to lead the way for the club? Now imagine instead of spending 70m we got him for free…

3rd February 2026 at 2:08 pm #238469@Sympathy, Goretzka has become very much a backup at Bayern, Casemiro was still first choice the season before he left Madrid. I was using him as an example, I’m not sure he would be the answer.

3rd February 2026 at 3:52 pm #238477@killyboye – not saying Goretzka is the answer either mate; but he would be a good backup player to have who will be part of the squad, brings that “win a trophy every season” mentality and will come on and bring some calm in those games that call for it.
Definitely believe we will still need 2 top class midfielders to play alongside Mainoo/Fernandes.
Cheers

3rd February 2026 at 4:59 pm #238482Didn’t watch AFCON so can’t say about players there but Baleba has great potential. Yes his head was turned around when we approached him and only plays first half in Brighton games nowadays. Commanding 100 M for a player who’s only playing first half is a bit daft, isn’t it. Let’s see what happens, which manager Wilcox&co choose. Carrick will stick with Mainoo that’s for sure.

3rd February 2026 at 5:29 pm #238483@Sympathy – The current version of Goretzka wouldn’t even be an upgrade on Ugarte matey, never mind anything close to being phenomenal.
There’s a very good reason over his near 8 years at Bayern as to why he’s started only 50% of their Bundesliga matches, and if that’s really the limit of our aspirations for the next few years then we might as well just turn the fucking lights off permanently at OT and give up, simple as that._____________________________

3rd February 2026 at 6:34 pm #238497Goretzka shouldnβt even be discussed at all and talk of having a serial winner is somewhat overrated. If you have a group of hungry, ambitious young players who continuously want to win that works and anything above 50M for Baleba we should walk away.
It will really be intriguing to see the players to be signed for that midfield position because regardless of whoever is appointed as the New Manager the profile of the players to be signed should align with the longevity of the clubβs plan and not the managerβs preference.

4th February 2026 at 9:49 am #238527And Hargreaves before him. Bayern only sell when the player is past their sell by date. Same as Real Madrid.
