But if the only thing that mattered was the chance of winning trophies currently, Hazard, Kane, Pogba, Alli, Kante, would all be knocking on Pep’s door begging him to sign them. It’s just never as simple as that! It didn’t happen when Utd were the top dogs and it isn’t going to happen today

As for Evans, I was annoyed when we sold him to be honest. He’s not good enough to start for you but he’d be a quality back up. Really solid defender.

Jim, I’m not for a minute ashamed to say we’re playing catch up to this City side. But, sitting back and watching City hoover up the best players isn’t going to close that gap, despite us being able to say we have retained our principles. Principles are for people like Wenger. He’s welcome to them. As in my Hazard example, we’ve been on the “principle” side before and come out worse for it. Even when we were the “top dogs” we lost out on many top players. It happens. It will happen again, many times, for both our clubs.

I’m not suggesting it’s a straight swap re Mhki. I’m saying the reports are a £35mil fee of which an agreed portion would be offset by Mhki going the other way. What portion of that fee would be offset remains to be seen, but it definitely wouldn’t be £35mil plus Mhki

I really don’t think Lukaku could be seen as a panic buy. Hasn’t Only Kane scored more over the last 5 years in the PL? I’m not sure who we could have got for the money who is more proven. Any ideas?

Sanchez for me would perfectly fit José’s counter attacking football that he played so well at Real in that record breaking season. Pep is known to have sold Sanchez after becoming increasingly frustrated at his inability to play to the manager’ s instructions. If he’s so suited to a Pep side, why did he sell him?

Besides, where have you seen Mkhi AND £35mil being suggested? I’ve seen plenty about £35mil but I think they’re suggesting that Mhki would offset some of that fee, not add to it!

Players have been moving for the most money for years Jim and it will never change. We’ve missed out on plenty of players through the years through not wanting to pay the asking price. Ferguson famously refused to pay the fee Lille wanted for Hazard. That principle got us Kagawa instead who we ended up losing money on so I don’t always think it’s worth haggling too much.

I just don’t buy into all this Pep or money thing the media are spouting though. We get it. Pep is a great, great coach and City play great stuff. But this is the same Sanchez that told a Chile teammate a few years ago that all he’s ever wanted is to play for Utd. We’re some way behind City currently but I think the whole “everyone wants to play for City” stuff is a bit overplayed. Pep has won nothing at all yet in England. Mourinho is famous for being an extremely persuasive person when it comes to convincing players to join and it won’t have slipped Sanchez’s mind that Pep has already sold him once before.

You’ve admitted yourself that he’d be a luxury buy for you. What would it say about Sanchez if he came somewhere to be a luxury player who won’t play a lot when he can go to a team where he’ll play every week? At 29, unless I was getting a hell of a lot more money to be a bit part player, I’d be going to the club where I was going to be playing.

Well it appears none of the Utd or City fans on this forum want Sanchez at their club! What makes him a money grabber though Jim? Pep is the highest paid club manager in world football. Is he a money grabber too? Genuine question. Just interested to hear why he’s any different to any of the rest of the football world who want the most money they can get?!

What a player he looked like he was going to be after that famous game at home to Barca! Since then, I think he’s showed in flashes that he has the talent but he just doesn’t seem to kick on to another level. Although, you see someone like the Ox finding his feet now at Liverpool and have to wonder if Wilshere might benefit from a move away, too. I’d definitely take him to the World Cup though.

Great game for the neutral. Really thought they’d pulled it back there in the last minute. Ederson was poor today and Stones wasn’t great either. Sane I thought had a decent game.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Liverpool go far in the CL. Not many top teams will be able to cope with their pressing game and with Van Dijk to come in and shore up the defence, you just never know. It’s the smaller sides Liverpool seem to struggle to break down.

Bakayoko just doesn’t look to have settled in this side. For all Conte’s moaning about not getting his choice of players in also, I think it’s pretty clear Morata was his choice and he just looks half the player Costa was at the moment. Nobody is even making City fight for this league title!

As others have said, the site is just not big enough or busy enough at the moment to survive with specific club sites. This is the reason the site is set up the way it is. I prefer to see the different forums (be it the Liverpool one, the City one or whatever) more as categories than separate club sites.

If it ever gets to the point where the club sites can survive by themselves and be more defined and separated, then the layout may have to change but for now, that’s just not going to work.

So, to summarise, the site is deliberately set up in a way to maximise the overlap between the different club sites so as to encourage debate.
