Sean, you’re referring back to City and Utd but I’ve already said we’re in an entire different league. I’m not in any way comparing our spending to Liverpool’s. No fans of City, PSG or Utd can take any moral high ground. I’m comparing Liverpool’s cost of their squad which is right up there with some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Very few sides haven’t had to sell their best players at some point. Utd lost Ronaldo and would have lost De Gea, but for a dodgy fax machine. Chelsea are probably going to lose Hazard. Arsenal have lost loads of their best players through the years, as have Spurs. City haven’t really had to lose anyone, to be fair, but they’re the only ones. Even Bayern struggle to hold onto their stars. Barca lost one of their best players last year. It happens to (almost) all clubs!

Sean, I’m not for a minute suggesting net spend is not a metric worth looking at. I definitely have no agenda here as we come out pretty poorly whichever way you look at it! The net spend clearly shows Klopp has done a great job of moving players in and out of the club and still remained competitive. That said, there is still no getting away from the fact that Liverpool have not assembled their squad on the cheap. Their squad was assembled at a cost higher than the likes of Bayern Munich, which surprised me a bit.

Chucky, tough one. Both sides not on their best form at the moment after poor showings at the weekend. I don’t like the fact it’s at Wembley, whether it was agreed a long time ago or not, it’s clearly an advantage for Spurs. I think we might just nick it though. I want to see how we perform midweek though before being too sure, as it’s important we bounce back straight away from the West Brom result.
Beni, there’s no denying Klopp has had to move a lot out in order to buy big, hence the low net spend but Liverpool have the seventh most expensive squad in Europe and boast the world’s most expensive defender so their squad hasn’t been assembled cheaply. Admittedly though, Utd, City and PSG are in a league of their own in that regard and have no excuse for not being in the CL semis

My whole point Chucky was that we’ve massively improved in that regard this season!

Of Pep, Klopp, Poch and Jose, only the latter has won the CL with a really unfancied side (twice!).
I’d be very surprised in fact if Utd aren’t top or close to the top when looking at head to head results amongst the top 6 this season. It’s, surprisingly, the games against the lesser sided Utd have faltered in this season.
Liverpool’s squad cost only marginally less than Real Madrid and more than both Bayern’s and Roma’s so Liverpool are certainly not poor either.
Mourinho’s ego and attitude will no doubt see the end of his Utd career sooner or later rather than his ability to manage which is, arguably, unmatched as his record shows.

Completely agree with Nine. There are so few top candidates available ready to come in. Mourinho is likely to finish second after spending the second most amount on players. Hardly the disaster it’s made out to be. Granted, we’re not over achieving at the moment but we’re so much better than at any other point since Ferguson retired. Like Nine says, Klopp, Pep, Poch and the rest have all come under huge scrutiny at different times of their careers, in the same way Mourinho is doing now. I mean, I’d much rather be in our shoes than the likes of Arsenal who are now entirely irrelevant in the top 4 race, never mind the title race.
Mourinho might well fail to deliver at Utd but it’d be incredibly naive to bet against it. Let’s not forget Mourinho has beaten a better Pep side than this one to the title, and one deemed by many to be the best club side ever, all while scoring the most goals ever in La Liga. Not bad for a bus parker!

Let it all out Mick! We’re here for you.
Really no need for the reality check though, as we know we’re shit! It’s the 18 teams below us who should be ashamed of themselves ??

Poor from Utd today. Massive congrats to all the City lads on here for a well deserved title win. The rest of us can only hope the competition is a bit stronger next season to give us a more exciting title race.
Quite embarrassing for the rest of the league that we’re the second best side in the league this season! All the chasing pack need to step up a few gears if anyone is going to make it more interesting next season

Did Harry Kane actually touch the ball?

As long as you believe him Chucky!
For me, it’s not so much whether he indeed did touch it or not, it’s the Ronaldo-esque attempt at taking a goal which was awarded to a team mate in his apparent hunt for personal accolades.

I really don’t like censoring things so I prefer not to close threads but I think I will eventually do so with this one as it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere any more. If nothing more productive is added to the thread within the next hour or so, then I’ll close it down in the hope it brings an end to the current debate which is currently going back and forth and seemingly not nearing a natural conclusion.
I’d really appreciate it if we could all just move on and at least find another subject to fall out over!

Kane being absolutely hammered for appealing that goal! He’s gone down a lot in my estimation with all this.

Top post gjblues. It’s all got a bit heated around here recently and I’m not sure why. Beni, I have a lot of respect for you as a poster but I’m with Nine on this one mate. Like gjblues, I just don’t see Nine’s post as condoning trouble.

Congrats to all the Liverpool fans on here and commiserations to the City fans. I said a while ago on here that it wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool won the CL this season and they’re certainly looking capable of doing that now.
Pax, hope you’ll change your mind mate. Regardless of what anyone says, everyone is welcome to post anywhere on the forum.
Sean, I’m glad you got some lunch!

I had an email through from Jim today, apologising for his language on Saturday and he wanted me to pass on his apologies to Beni and the rest of the posters for his reaction. He says he’ll probably stay away until next season but, I’m sure I speak for everyone here, I hope to see him back much sooner than that!

I think Liverpool will probably do enough to go through but it’s far from over. At 16/1 to win the CL, City are quite a tempting price. Win this one and you wouldn’t bet against them going all the way. City can definitely score 3 but it’s keeping Liverpool out which will be the problem.
