Chucky you’re right, Palace, Sheff Utd amd Burnley should definitely have some of their defenders in the top 23 also, as clean sheets is clearly the only logical way to measure defensive quality.

Alisson; Milner, Gomez, Henderson, Robertson; Lallana, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Shaqiri, Salah, Origi.
Looking at that team I think 17/1 are good odds!

“threeps, I was just outlining Liverpoolβs alternatives. I still think they could have left a number of Senior squad players behind like and still beaten Monterrey comfortably with what will be their first team anyway.
The choice Liverpool made was probably the right choice for Liverpool firstly there will be 3 very strong sides they would have drawn in the Semi Finals of the League Cup so nothing was guaranteed and understandably Liverpool want to win the World Club Championship as they havenβt won it before and it will get a lot more difficult to win from next Season under the new rules.”
Nine think you posted on the wrong thread so I will answer here.
Yes they could of done that but it would jeopardise the WCC. There’s no real way to define how good or not Monterrey are but to give an indication Transfermarkt values their squad at 84m, pretty much the same as WBA. So could a WBA quality team give LFC a difficult game, baring in mind they are more acclimatized having been out there a week already? I would think so, although Liverpool are rightfully strong favorites.

Minamino having his medical today and could make his debut in the FA Cup against Everton. Last time we had a player make his debut in the cup against Everton he turned out ok π
Rumor is we are looking at a young Championship LB (forgot his name, think from Coventry). I would guess that means Lewis and Lacouri would be deemed not to be good enough if it happens.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I disagree with those saying Liverpool could of split the team. The WCC should be taken seriously and it is a little disrespectful to say Liverpool should easily dispatch Monterrey even with a mismatch of a team. And yes Liverpool did turn down the opportunity of playing the quarter final during the semi final week but all that would do is postpone the problem to later date, at some point there would be a bottleneck of fixtures needing to be played.
I’m not sure there was really any alternative to what actually happened. Personally I’m not too disappointed as the 2 legged semifinal would not of been a welcome distraction as the team chases PL and CL success.

Every appointment is a risk, be it a 32 year old with only reserve team management or someone thats won the lot in different countries. If I were an Arsenal fan I’d be more excited about someone like Artera with hopefully modern and progressive ideas than someone who is perhaps stubbornly stuck in his old ways.

As I mentioned, Arteta isn’t just walking into a job with no clue other than being an ex player, and he isn’t just sitting next to Pep or the guy that puts the cones out, those arguments are ignorant at best. He is or has been primed to take a top managers job, and is hugely regarded by City.
Whatever people think of City behind the scenes they are a very, probably the best, run team in the country. They have a grand plan and everyday work towards that, as opposed to other teams that just use the scatter gun approach to appointing a manager. “He’s experienced, he’s managed 20 clubs before, let appoint him” and then in 2 years appoint another and so forth…
You only have to look at Utd to see what going for the established every couple of years achieves.

Arteta isn’t just someone that sits next the Pep hoping some of his knowledge rubs off on him, he has been primed by City to become their manager for a seamless hand over from Pep. Obviously that is looking unlikely and all City’s hard work with him will be to Arsenals benefit.
Understand those saying Arsenal need discipline but would that really mean the same old tired names? Emery was an established manager who struck me as someone that instilled discipline but that didn’t work. Why not take a chance on a young manager with modern, forward thinking ideas? If every team just went for the usual establishment then we would never have managers like Nagelsmann or ten Hag, or even Klopp at BvB or Pep at Barca.

RB Leipzig shouldn’t be underestimated. They are top of the Bundersliga and 6 points ahead of 5th place Bayern.

Probably the tie I wanted to avoid in Atletico Madrid. Good organised team although not what they were a couple of years ago. Also Liverpool have fairly good recent memories of their stadium!
Interesting that City chose Real this time. Should be an entertaining match.

Arsenals record home defeat is apparently six nil by Derby in 1899. Premier league it’s by 3 goals. Think we’ll see new records? They are looking terrible.
KdB looks like the very best player at school, you know the one that ends up a pro, playing against the other kids at lunch time! Many levels of class apart.

It’s always said there’s no such thing as an easy game in the Premier League but let’s be honest top at home vs bottom is as about as easy as it comes. If Norwich should cruise vs Norwich then Liverpool should against Watford.
Arsenal vs City should be interesting. Stevo will tell us it will be an another Arse spanking but we’ve all seen recently how City struggle against good quality quick forwards, something Arsenal have. Its at the back where Arsenal are about as strong as a wet paper bag so I’m expecting a 3-2 victory, just not sure who to!

Strong rumors that we have agreed the transfer with RB Salzburg for Minamino, meeting his ridiculously low release fee of 7.25m. As well as being mentioned in The Echo, in the know journos like Joyce, Reddy and Pearce are all saying it’s done already.
He was their exceptional player in the two games vs us, good technique and high work rate. Seems like he can play all the attacking positions so would be a very welcome addition.

Love it when the Champions League enters the knockout stages. Last season, despite a brilliantly mundane final, was exceptional. So many memorable games like Utd/PSG, Liverpool/Barca, Spurs/Ajax, Juve/Atletico and Spurs/City.
Potentially some great last 16 games this time. Any English team could get a very difficult game but for Spurs and Chelsea it looks like that is all they get, Leipzig and Valencia are not to be underestimated.

Group winners Manchester City will have to play Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Napoli or Real Madrid.
Champions League holders Liverpool will face Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon or Real Madrid.
Last season’s runners-up Tottenham are up against Barcelona, Juventus, RB Leipzig, Paris St-Germain or Valencia.
As for fellow group runners-up Chelsea, it will be Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, RB Leipzig or Paris St-Germain.

Mak I hate the whole “bottled it” thing, it’s just a stick for rival fans to beat each other with. I even heard that Liverpool bottled the league last season, well no they did unbelievably good just the Cuties did slightly better.
A lot of rival fans are most likely bigging up Liverpool’s chances (as in it’s over etc) just so that can either
a) Laugh at us even more when we lose out to City or Leicester (bottled it!!)
b) So they can then claim Liverpool fans were celebrating in December etc when we are not saying anything like that
c) It’s kind of a defence mechanism for their feelings towards their own team’s failingsNo team actually bottles it, well except Newcastle all those years ago and any time Spurs get a sniff of success π
