Yeah you’re right Ed he plays high line, not sure where I read a low block. But the 3 up front are a striker and two inverted forwards, not no 10s. Hence why I asked where Mount and Fernades will fit, and Zirkee unless he can develop into a false 9 perhaps.
Oh and he often played wingers at wing back for more attcking purpose. Not sure how that would do in the PL, did read a suggestion somewhere of playing Anthony at wing back!

So anyone have a guess what his preferred line up will be? Seems he’s always been a 343 kinda guy, low block, strong press and counter attack. Where Ford thatvlrave Fernandes, Mount and Zirkee?

CM how is my post “smug”? You seem too obsessed with what is going on at Anfield with our so far looking good manager thrn what is happening at your own, which is in crisis hence you removed your manager again. And wtf are you on about a “yes man”? Focus on your own situation and don’t talk about something you know little about. That is after all what this thread is about.

CM yes players age, we can agree on that! Look at City and their best player over thr last few years looks on his last legs. He will be replaced and so will the likes of Salah and VvD. This season or not is another conversation. The best players always need replacing at some point! I find it sad that it seems a Utd fan is pinning the demise of Liverpool as a force on the departure of one or two key players.
Slot can only be judged on what we know and so far we know he is doing a bloody good job. Klopp will always be a Liverpool legend and he created a fantastic heavy metal style at Liverpool but he wasn’t very good with the transition to a more controlled style. Just by watching Liverpool so far it seems Slot has already made progress.
Amorim if he joins will be a risk but then every manager is. He plays 343 which I can’t see suiting the current Utd squad. But what would concern me more is that last season he was linked with Liverpool, Bayern, Barca and Chelsea and they all turned him down (and all looking good for it) yet he ended up pimping his services to West Ham in what it seems a desperate act to join a well paid job. He even left Sportings training camp to do so, which led to even WHU saying no and Amorim returning to Sporting with his tail between his legs. This tells me he doesn’t care if the job suits him or not, just if the pay cheque does. Wasn’t a good look for him.
Edit: what I’m basically saying CM is worry about your own club and its rather sorry situation (once more) whilst we will see what happens with Slot but do far we are enjoying being contenders for the league and sitting 11 points ahead of Utd after only 9 games.

CM we can only speculate on exactly how much Slot is involved but his is from the man himself:
“Itβs a collaboration. I think every sports director wants to sign a player that is wanted by the manager and vice-versa,β Slot emphasized. He highlighted the involvement of the scouting and data departments in identifying the right players to fit Liverpoolβs needsβ .”
Of course replacing world class players is a challenge that is nothing new in football. But as Nil suggested this thread isn’t about Liverpool or Slot, and as you yourself said the problems at Utd lie deeper than just appointing a new manager (again). Time will tell if this change is successful but you have a lot of garbage to remove from the squad and with the inflated wages they are on that’s not going to be easy. The new guy will need time.

CM, its not about Slot being a yes man or not. Its about having the right system around the right man. He was brought in because his more coach oriented style was what the management at Liverpool wanted. They didn’t want Amorim because he didn’t fit that profile. Simple as that.
The system around Utd has been lacking for years. Giving Ten Hag the freedom to spend ludicrous amounts of money on sub standard ex Ajax players was criminal. I wouldn’t call him a yes man, seems there was no one to say yes to! He just did what he wanted.
This is now time to see the quality or not of Ineos. Have they understood how to build success by changing more than just the manager, or will they go through the managerial merry-go-round like ever since Fergie retired?

Amorim was rejected by Liverpool because he didn’t fit into the new model where power is taken away from the manager whose job it is now to focus on the training pitch. Amorim wanted more influnence like what Klopp had, and what Edwards opposed.
Ten Hag had power to make his own transfers and that didnt work too well! Don’t think I can ever remember a manager who made so many transfer cock-ups.
Slot was 2nd choice behind Alonso who will likely move to Madrid next season.

Nagelsmann put himself into a compromising situation with a reporter which cost him his job at Bayern. Plus he did some silly things like sack the GK coach who was a very close friend of Neuer. A number of senior players turned on him, but he’s certainly a big enough personality for Utd.
Southgate still joint 2nd favorite if you ignore Ruud who would only be interim I’d presume. Oddly Xavi is right up ther too.

I feel Amorim has City vibes should Pep go at the end of the season. At least with Gareth he is available now and as we know good mates with Ineos.
Not a lot of talent available. Should have given Rangnick more time and the signings he wanted.

Nooooooooo! Too soon. Wanted at least until Christmas.
Who is in the mix then? Only one man for me, step forward Gareth Southgate.

Personally I would start Nunez over Jota at the moment even if Jota is fit. Think it will be the ‘usual’ team this season except obviously the goalie change. Bit harsh on Jones if that is correct as he was the best player on the pitch vs Chelsea. You could drop Szoboszlai and either put Jones there or swap and have MacAllister there but it’s probably a case of “if it aint broke dont fix it”. And whilst Szloby hasn’t been hitting the goals and assist numbers that his ability in the no 10 would suggest (confindence to just put your foor through it maybe?) he is working very hard and really defends well from the front.
Saka will play but that doesn’t mean he will be 100% or it could even flair up again during the game. It’s always a risk if you bring a player back early into such a match.
WHU vs Utd will be intersting, two very poor teams imo, but I fancy the East Londoners crowd to be very vocal and that could push them to a win (hopefully).
Routine 6-0 for City, all 6 goals for Haaland. No one will really care.

24th October 2024 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #216090We didn’t have the role Grav is playing now when we bought him. To be honest I didn’t understand the purchase as we were well stocked in thr no 8 position and he didn’t play that much. But Slot doesn’t play with traditional defensive midfielders and the role Slot has put him in is working a treat. Only way I can see a less attacking midfielder come in is to play alongside him and push MacAllister into the 10 (which is probably his best). But it won’t be an out and out defensive midfielder.

24th October 2024 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #216087Specialised DM and what? Drop Gravenberch our players of the season so far and probably most in form midfielder in the league?
I don’t think we need a clinical no 9, just one that influences play more than Nunez and Jota. Bobby Firmino like, who is always involved and makes things happen. Although I remember when we were hammering everyone left right and centre people still asked for more goals from him or from the midfielders.

24th October 2024 at 11:27 am in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #216083Sean, what did you think of our old mate Nunez? I actually thought he played very well, he looks fired up this season and works very hard and is holding the ball up much better. I would have him in over Jota who makes the attack look disjointed a lot of the time as he has poor link up play.
Said it before but I think a new no 9 should be a priority.
Glad Nunez scored a goal even he would struggle to miss, but my first thought was “hope he isnt offside knowing him!”.

As much as I a was gutted to see it the John Stones goal decision was 100% correct. Silva does make minor contact with Sa as the ball is played in but nothing beyond the rules and you can’t be offside from a corner. When Stones heads it Silva is no longer interfering with play so dosnt matter that he’s in an offside position. Very clever and within the rules.

Well it’s a German singing about ‘God’ saving someone of German heritage. “God save Charles Saxe-Coburg-Gotha!” as he should be called. Wonder what Adlab would have thought on this!
As a manager I said I didn’t want him at Liverpool. He’s pragmatic, and most likely more talented than Southgate, so he could win things. Just don’t expect to be entertained.

I’m sure the PL and Masters are quaking in their boots at the thought of Football and Political expert Noel Gallagher getting involved. Or they could just put it down to a famous loud mouth fan using his former glory to rant and stomp his feet that no one will care about.

Well this thread tool an unexpected turn! Clear that Rover has strong political views but I don’t see that value of discussing it in a football forum.
What I don’t understand is that some football fans accept or even encourage the behavior of the city owners. Football is a competitive sport and they are trying by whatever foul means possible to remove the competitive element from it. City fans are obviously revelling in the (tainted) success but they need a reality check, this is your sport that your owners are determined to ruin!
Going on from what Ed said once about City being AD’s choice because they are a reasonable size but desperate to step out of a bigger neighbours shadow, I agree with him it wouldn’t be tolerated by most Liverpool or Utd fans. We all like to win but some of us care about how and by what means, and Utd and LFC have already tasted massive success without resorting to cheating, we wouldnt accept it.
City could have easily have been Everton, I think there was interest. Wonder how Spurs fans would have felt, with Arsenal obviously casting a big successful shadow over them?

City Txiki Begiristain confirmed leaving at the end of the season. Coincidence? Or a rat jumping ship?
