Just a quick observation of why I felt it appropriate to highlight opinions on the character of the Liverpool players following their Cup final defeat to Newcastle.
After playing extra time and penalties to PSG (now a lot of peoples favourite for the Champions League 25) on the proceeding Tuesday night, do we still offer the narrative of “LFC players not wanting it enough” in a final, as an honest intelligent football conversation?Not “cheap shoting” clubs we dislike…
Also, I still hold the opinion this is the best Newcastle team we’ve seen in years and the final 2025 league table will be interesting..
Will the criticism be the same of our three European teams this week, if they don’t win the round.. not wanting it enough?

I would also note that a difference of 6 points at game 28 without scrutinising teams above them still to play and quality of other league teams ability to beat each other is hardly enough evidence to base your argument of performance..
Can any Newcastle supporters on this forum say which team they would rather have 2022-2023 or current ?
At the risk of repeating myself Newcastle 100% absolutely deserved to win I genuinley couldn’t be more pleased for the club or supporters..
LFC flatlined throughout most of the last 4 performances, you said yesterday due to “attitude” I say because they were running on empty.._____________________________

I couldn’t be happier for Newcastle and their fans…seriously brilliant and the fans reaction encapsulates why we all love this game so much…
Compared to their team in the final 2 years ago they now have a brilliant powerful team who can beat most of Europes best in a one off match…and didn’t have a last minute 3rd choice keeper who hadn’t played a competitive EPL standard match for over 2 years between the sticks…I think the narrative of “not wanting it enough” in a final, is not an honest intelligent football conversation… Fatigue is a real thing that has plagued the LFC squad season after season around March. The difference this year is no Klopp gegen press,African nations cup for Mane, Salah etc and the strongest bench they’ve had in seasons. Slots failing starting being voiced by the Kop in November was he continually used the same squad players match after match ..every LFC fan I know has forecast this weeks events for months..(and no signings in 2 windows to ease the load). I would love someone to tell VVD or Mcallister they approached this final casually…
Great opportunity for the new LFC management team to make big adjustments this Summer for the unique demands of the EPL next season.._____________________________

I offer a different view to yours Editor… So if for instance Liverpool (already favourites apparently) win the CL this year are we saying Liverpool are “taking advantage” of all the biggest teams in Europe’s top teams being far weaker than before too? City spent £200 in January, PSG bought Kvaratskhelia.
Have you considered that now most of the Premiership teams have proper funding, deep pockets lined by “immediate success spending hierarchy teams” Chelsea, Man U wit little to show yet for eye watering outlay… this contributes to a league that has far greater competition by clubs who have players playing for the badge and not players going through the motion kissing it and taking the wage… Caicedo £115, Enzo £107, Lavia £55, Cucurella £66k … its not a bad season its a hollow investment shell with players that are getting found out by Brighton, Forest etc and hopefully will continue to have poor seasons unless FFP continues the big spenders another chance to buy a squad in a couple of seasons…
I hear a lot of Utd fans contenting themselves with the narrative that Liverpool are benefitting from a one off failure of ALL the competing clubs and this is a unique event compared to all the seasons preceding against teams with smaller squads, devastating injuries and youth team players filling their benches..I see a different European landscape developing to what has gone before certainly in the EPL …

Wow….extraordinary LFC …match perhaps FA Cup final at Cardiff was last time (like Man U vs Bayern in 99 European Final …. a team rides their luck…or digs deep.. but LFC v v v rarely low block… AND win
Rare Slott match where for me second half careless ball possession resembled the first, but ramadan Salah apart… I thought Jones, Endo, Harvey and Costas brought brilliant craft and energy and hell the league leaders rode their squad and a slice of luck… like Villa did last night …. game on with the back drop of the most competetive attrisious domestic league on the planet before all these together great teams role out their best teams for the “BIG” games… Scotland , France, Spain…….._____________________________

I hear you. But potentially they are the first team with such a dominant profile who can “attract” most of their world class recruits on “free transfers” by starting 2 years ahead… Most top clubs will have to continually renew their best players contracts 3 years ahead..to stay ahead of the allure and signing on bonuses the future RM will offer..

Thanks Mav… I will attempt to match the generous reasoning I see often in evidence and not be too ascetic when I hold a different “truth.”
In honesty I was triggered/compelled by young-blue’s narrative discussing by Maresca having to inherit a Chelsea “crisis..”My version of crisis is needing midfielders to play in central defence because even your 4th & 5th choice CB’s are injured… not self inflicted greed of spending £1.3 billion in 3 windows ontop of an insanely expensively assembled squad you already have and churn through 7 managers in 5 years…
That said, like Amorim I see a talented manager in Maresca and really nice fellas too..
If you can’t find your way with that squad at Chelsea, I’m afraid you’re not capable at top level management in my truth…. I see Maresca as that capable dude

I agree with threes….. if you can “afford” to buy a quality second 11 to bench warm, like City for the last decade and now Chelsea, you stand a massive advantage in the second half of the season.
When I look at the monies worth of bought talent sat on both teams benches the last couple of weeks and hear a narrative that Pep is crippled by injuries… its smoke and mirrors to the advantage they have held over their competitors for a decade surely….I don’t hear Shaun Dyche complaining?

I would present slightly different views… Ferguson wasn’t the exception… I agree he had a longer period of success to Pep be it not winning a ‘representative’number of Champions league to echo his dominance and squad over that lengthy period…
Like Pep is probably doing, he departed leaving a tired, old squad for the next manager … unlike Pep he built a strong squad through his purchases and academy… Pep has sold a succession of youth talent he should have nurtured…._____________________________

I re read your comments after CM posting and see the “he” you mention was Neville not me… My apologies for rea ting to what in a quick read appeared to be CM and yourself having a pop at me for trolling with what I believe is a worthy point to discuss…….
Your clarification message did accuse me of not accepting other pundits bias, Carragher and Souness…. You need to re read my reply to your first…
You obviously miss understood “ I agree with most of the points you make Ed, and accept opinion before or after a game but tell me another pundit who live, during the match, repeatedly shows his allegiance and offers an utterly false narrative!”
If I insert the word biased before the word opinion…
This might also address your concern that I only expect people to agree with everything I post…?I also accept bias was possibly the wrong word to use too, although if any opponent supporter look for it they will find plenty of “one eyed narrative”…
I think Lucky nailed my opinion on Neville “it’s his modus operandi in general. Unlike commentators that call what they see in a game neville is always referring back to his own narratives. He’s convinced he knows more than other commentators.
Its not bias towards utd that’s the problem, it’s his damn ego and the blatant agendas he wears on his sleeves.”

Wow.. CM/Editor so I’m trolling if I compliment at least 3 other ex Utd pundits, clarify that specifically it’s his “during match commentary I take issue with, give an example of a game not involving the team I’m accused of trolling for ? Have used respectful language throughout….
I would be interested to hear 999, other Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs, Newcastle…. Supporters about Neville’s comments and commentary DURING the match respectfully before that of Man Utd supporters. Unfortunately it takes courage to voice an opinion against even ex-players of some clubs because of slanderous personal replies from people running what’s already a modest forum ???

Is that in his terms ? If you canvassed all Premiership supporters I would be amazed if his didn’t come top by a country mile of give a false narrative against Utds opponents, during the match…

To be honest Nine, if Pope hadn’t made that sending off hand lunge challenge, Salah would probably have made it 3-0 away against Newcastle 11 men for the last hour…
As Chelsea fans know, it’s goals that matter. Not chances or squads… Against a clinical striker, Man Utd should probably have been at least 2 down at half time with frequent gilt-edge chances but the back pages celebrate a decisive win…
I still believe in big CL games Real Madrid (Ancelloti) are still a bigger threat than any other team in Europe except this seasons Napoli…theres a reason why even with huge financial advantage and squad City haven’t won the CL… they lack a squad of players with raw hunger and truly passionate fans creating a special atmosphere…
Too much money brings problems hidden across a league season (two squads of first team players) but found out in gladiatorial cup ties… in my opinion…
Really looking forward to 2 more mighty games against our old adversary and great camaraderie together in Liverpool ale houses hosting esteemed Spanish footy fans. Both sets of fans ran the gauntlet of probably outside, the most horrificly negligent organisation of a football game from fans safety in the city and Paris stadium surrounding area that I’ve ever witnessed in 56 years… I was a Hillsborough survivor and this was equally horrific… The LFC fans behaviour saved many lives!
