Merited. At the Emirates too. Must be a Sunday Night Slot Thing haha.
Maybe this is no ‘fly by night’ from Villa as far as this Season’s start goes.
Commendable as far as Competitiveness goes in this League. Pleasing 🙂
Just a slight shame in breaking away for an International Break.

8th November 2020 at 10:57 pm #169963Arsenal 0 Villa 3 just another example of the ongoing spooky results.
Oops! misread the table on here.😊 Which led me to believe Villa had gone top of the table when they are actually 6th but they could go top should they win their game in hand before other games are played. Great win for Villa though.

8th November 2020 at 11:02 pm #169964……and only 3 points separate 1st place to 6tb place too.

9th November 2020 at 1:30 am #169965Anonymous“Giblues, I agree mate. It’s a pen in this day and age”
I don’t really agree with you lads on this. It’s just that there will never be a day where I am legitimizing that nonsense. I don’t ,care if the rules are saying it is because it shouldn’t be. I’d much rather just say the new rules are terrible.

9th November 2020 at 1:41 am #169966AnonymousI’m just reading back on things now but ya, Im not unhappy with the draw now. We’ve managed to keep our distance on City. We’re really going through it now with injuries though. Trent going off and then Robertson clearly picked something up but carried on. It’s a tough time for us but we’ve already got Alisson back and we have Thiago coming back soon. We’re going to miss the big man so much now, for the rest of the season but if he can come back next term, or with a few games left and just be right and fully healed then I’ll take it.
Thiago for me is the player we need back when the international break ends. Hendo and Wijnaldum struggled today on their own but Thiago will give us an edge, he’ll provide the creativity onto the lads we had on there today, well 3 of the 4.
Our passing in the first half was high tempo, slick stuff but the weather slowed us down and that really suited City. We have always got to dictate tempo with them, or we end up in trouble. We were well worth the draw though, in my opinion anyway. Not many other teams will play them like that and come away with something.

9th November 2020 at 1:50 am #169967AnonymousBrian, KDB is the best player on the vast majority of pitches that he plays on.

9th November 2020 at 1:58 am #169968Anonymous“Brilliant 1st half from Pool, but Gigi kept giving the ball away on a few dangerous situations.Firminho again, completely invisible.”
That’s the weird thing, Gini almost never gives the ball away but he’s not been anywhere near his best so far this season. Regardless of how EVERYONE pronounces his name though, there is no “h” in Firmino. I really have no idea why everyone pronounces one in his name. You’re not a Liverpool fan so you get a pass but ya everyone, his name is Firmino and it’s pronounced as it’s spelled.
That behind us now though lol, Bobby was not at the races. When Thiago comes back, he’ll be fighting for his place in the team. He already was but he didnt make a case today. I was expecting a performance from him, so should I be worried? Was he already at 100%? I hope not because it isnt enough.
Maybe Klopp bought Jota to replace Firmino.

9th November 2020 at 1:59 am #169969AnonymousWhat happened to Arsenal?
I was starting to think the PL was settling and that Everton, Leeds and Villa were maybe teams to shift away from FPL-wise but here we go, 3 nil. wow.

9th November 2020 at 6:01 am #169970Lots of people say this deadly virus and all the many sad results such as lockdowns, economy, empty stadiums etc etc have turned the world upside down so football results will also be victim to that. I even wonder if the top 6 will regulate itself as most seem to think.

9th November 2020 at 7:22 am #169971AnonymousYou mean you wonder if the top 6 will settle back into those positions? I guess by the way things are going you couldn’t rule out some surprises even after 38 games. I mean, perhaps we’ll have a winner outside of Liverpool and City.
I’m glad that villa got back on track because it keeps those kind of thoughts alive, with some of the other early form sides starting to be corrected back into place.
Am I the only one who didn’t notice Southampton climbing up though? Good on them but of course they are only 1 fixture into their time without Ings. I guess international weekends are good for some things though.

9th November 2020 at 8:12 am #169974If City win their game in hand they will only be 3 points off of top spot and only 2 points behind Liverpool. City and Liverpool remain favourites for the PL title and rightly so imo.
But this season of all seasons with so many topsy turvy results you can’t completely rule out an outsider or two coming through to challenge for the title and Spurs with Mourinho at the helm look a realistic potential title challenger to me.

9th November 2020 at 8:47 am #169976AnonymousI dunno about that Sean, I can’t remember individual matches too well but I’ve noted at times where he’s just not been himself. As for being outnumbered though yesterday, absolutely. TBH, it was a ballsy move by Klopp to try that against a team like City. Very clever really, I mean it worked before the weather slowed the game down. It’s not a formation or selection that I’d like to see against other sides though. I have been entirely won over by the 433 and it really does have to come down to making that hard choice between Firmino and Jota, when we’re not directly countering the opposition that is.
Nine, Spurs and a few others, including Chelsea are in the conversation. A few times I’ve tipped Chelsea to shine and have been wrong, so I won’t jinx them too hard this time, I promise. They are however of a very high quality and we’ll have to see where the chips fall.
I really hope to see a break through team/project. I had high hopes for Wolves for a few years, we all know Leicester are good but I didn’t expect them to be where they are now TBH. Sheffield Utd have fallen to pieces and will very likely get relegated, so it wont be them. Villa? Too soon to tell and their results are all over the place. Everton looked very likely but their last 3-4 results have buried them. Maybe they will come back but…
One thing I will say though is that I am very strongly opposed to the international break. I think I heard that they will be playing 3 games? That’s absolute madness if so. I mean, to be traveling around for non-competitive matches is setting a bad example and is just foolish on the whole. The risk if infection goes up, which could lead to the shut down of the entire PL… and we’re talking about a contracted football season where fixtures are just piled up. Liverpool are picking up loads of injuries and it’s no fluke. Im sure other teams are too and I’ll bet most are at a higher rate than normal. Could they have just done without this utter nonsense? Just cancel the god damn internationals while we struggle to stay afloat during the pandemic.
Anyway, we have 2 weeks to pray our players don’t get injured or infected, great.

9th November 2020 at 9:12 am #169977As you know I have always advocated for a more competitive league, we have it at the moment but we also have the two best teams playing football that the fans enjoy watching week in/out. Of course there will be some dips, yesterdays match was more to do with the difficult and energy sapping conditions and players who not make many mistakes start to make them, however, the overall play is still evident. I am delighted for Villa Southampton, even Crystal Palace creeping up. Ths is the English game at its best Leicester have done it before , so they have had a taste

9th November 2020 at 9:33 am #169978Interesting run of PL Fixtures the week after;
Newcastle v Chelsea
Villa v Brighton
Fulham v Everton
Liverpool v Leicester
Wolves v Southampton
Tottenham v Man CityI’ve sited the teams that have been around the top end of the table. The League has been competitive more than ever where points are taken off each other. It does bring excitement and at the moment, nobody really pulling away.

9th November 2020 at 9:36 am #169979Brian, it’s a great league and the standards above all considering there’s no spectators has been exciting. Football has been allowed to continue despite lockdown 2, but the main bug bear is the person controlling VAR and these silly rulings. That’s the bit that needs to change for me.
