Ed, but as more details emerge it seems that it unfortunately wasn’t “non violent” there are even reports of a Police Officer having his face slashed and needing to be taken to Hospital unfortunately it would seem the minority let the majority down.
Nine, hence the part at the bottom of my post about how this does not in any way condone what a small group of idiots have done.

Ideally you need some kind of constitution at football clubs to protect certain aspects of a club and restrain certain powers of owners but without making them too bureaucratic. That requires careful thought.

Spot on with your post. I’m sure there is a feeling amongst a section of the protesters that a points deduction would be a result. No Champions League money would certainly be felt in the owners’ pockets.

Brian, you’ve completely missed the point if you think protesting against the owners of a football club is, in any way, like protesting against the board of a supermarket because you don’t like something they sell.

Brian fans don’t expect any of what you are suggesting (a say in transfers, etc) but they do want a say in how the game is structured and run, and how football clubs, which are not shops but the heart of many communities, are safeguarded. If you see yourself as a customer of a business then fine, presumably when it all goes wrong you can shop elsewhere. That isn’t the way I see myself and I would doubt that is how most other football supporters see themselves.
I missed this post yesterday Mike but got the nail on the head there. I think most fans can relate to this.

Ed…you also miss the point I am making. It is idiots like this, and that applies to fans of other clubs not just Utd, we all have them, that is one step from anarchy. This is about how to act and respond in a decent way, anything else is not acceptable to me. It is my view that these people had no concern for Utd, Glaziers. Police and all on stand by including medics…it was about themselves and what disruption/damage they could do. Idiots will kill football, Who would want to buy Utd debt and fans like this, yes, it is a warning signal…..but for who?

Nine..agree about the 50+1 scenario…..it would not work here, I doubt it works in Germany as well if you examine the small print and stakeholder list. Who in their right mind would invest millions/bilions for a 50% no control stake. Please find me somebody and I will come out of retiremnet and start a business again. Living in dreamland

I disagree that nobody would be interested in buying a club like Utd Brian because of a minority of idiots. If investors were that stupid, no club would ever be bought as every club has their idiots. Those idiots yesterday don’t represent Utd fans any more than, for instance, the idiot City fan filmed making monkey gestures at Fred during the derby.
You keep saying this won’t work. Fine. Maybe it won’t but that doesn’t mean fans should just stand by and see their clubs turn into franchises.
Aside from the minority of idiots yesterday, I’m very supportive and proud of the protests from the fans. More fans should be doing more to rid the game of owners who, as we witnessed only a couple of weeks ago, want to destroy the football league pyramid and milk the clubs for all the money they can.

It appears to me that United fan action against Glazer ownership goes in and out of fashion – dependant upon various issues/events, ranging from poor team performance, poor purchases, annual account publication and ad hoc events like the doomed introduction of the ESL. If MUST had been deadly serious about ridding the club of the Glazers, then a more concerted and constant effort should have have been made from the outset.
It is clear the Glazers have used United purely as a ‘cash cow’, so the main objective should have been to take steps to strangle the club and therefore the owners of cash flow: asking fans not to buy merchandise, not renew STs, cancel subs to MUTV, etc, etc. A neighbour of mine is a massive opponent of the Glazers, he wears his green and gold scarf to every home game (pre-COVID) but he still buys his two sons a new home shirt every year and still renews his ST…..hypocrisy?_____________________________
