Agree Foxy, the tournament has proved England have a lot of good ingredients there. The system just needs some more tuning as well as more belief. It sounded a bit like Southgate is considering his position after the game. It would be a shame in some ways for him to lose the experiences he’s gained. But then, can he really become the manager we need him to be to play more dominantly and positively? Eddie Howe could be that guy and would probably be a frontrunner if Gareth does decide to stepdown.

Roy Keanes assessment is comlletely correct. Southgate got so many decision in this tournament correct. But letting a 19yo who hasnt taken a penalty in his professional career step up for the final penalty in a euero final is unforgiveable. To say that they lost as a team is incredibly naive. Southgate should know better than anyone how badly effected you can be from a big peno miss. Sterling and Grealish are absolute wet wipes, the latter I would rather never see for Englabd again. A luxury player billed up to some sort of Messiah because he wins alot of freekicks.

Watched the game last night then casually went to sleep, the euphoria only hit me this morning when I got out of bed, my family think I’m mad jumping around and shouting viva Italia. I’m sorry for any country fans that lose a final especially a penalty shootout which I also don’t believe is the right way to settle a final. The joy like everyting else in life is temporary but it does lift you up in these tough times.

When I saw him bring on Sancho and Rashford at the death it was obvious it was so that they could take pens, I was interested to know Sancho’s experience taking pens too. Was very shocked when he took off Hendo as I thought he’d be certain to take one. Gotta say, Maguire’s pen was sublime!
Players I thought would take one were Hendo, Kane, Grealish, Philips & Rashford.I think what you’re saying about Grealish is harsh Harry, but the points you make I do actually agree with regarding Grealish. I think everyone has rated him way above his actual ability.

So the penalty taker line up was worked out over several weeks in training and the first five takers were the five best takers.
Problem is there’s no pressure on the training ground and having two lads come on whose first kick of the ball was a penalty kick was risky to say the least as was having a 19 year old who doesn’t take penalties taking the last one.
Fact is whichever way you cut it a penalty shoot out is a lottery and whoever takes them could have missed look at Kane’s penalty v Denmark and he’s one of the best penalty takers in the business.
We completely surrendered the second half which was always dangerous against a team as good as Italy and we needed to make changes earlier imo to try and wrestle the impetus back.
At the end of the day though Italy were the best team and deserved to win it but this England squad is a young squad and will get better and they will learn from this as will Southgate which bodes well imo for a decent run in the World Cup providing we get there.

Not sure how England were the better side in the 1st half. They literally sat back after they scored and that’s just so frustrating. They have the players to play a more expansive game. No shame losing a final but lose it by having a go ffs.they played their worst game last night. It was terrible
Great to see fans back. Great support in the stadium but then you have the usual bullshit from English fans. Smashing your their own country at 2pm yday. Leicester Square was disgraceful. Fans storming Wembley etc. Your in a final enjoy it
And all countries don’t have fans like that. I just don’t understand the mentality of trashing the place and fighting amongest. Yourselves.
What should have been a great day has ended on a really sour note. Great tournament and I really wanted England to win at the start of the game but the horrible negative approach after the 1st goal and seeing the riots really turned me off England
I follow an English team. I visit England quite a lot. Love the people but Jesus Christ that was shocking yday.

We scored too early just was we did in the Croatia semi. As much as I love Southgate, he’s far too negative in the big games when going ahead. We had the players to hurt Italy but were just too cautious.
As usual, a lot of idiots spoiling it for the majority of decent England fans. They don’t represent me, nor do the idiots abusing the penalty missers. I’m extremely proud of the team anyway and we go again next year
