Well, first congratulations to the Liverpool fans here. we have given our best until the end. and I won’t say you never deserved this win. but we have given you a run for your money. I wish my team should play like that every week. because the Chelsea I saw today was a different class to the one that played at the weekend. I also hope that penalty miss won’t have an effect on Abraham psychologically. the boy has been excellent.
anyway, it’s not a shame to lose to a Liverpool side who is at the top of their game right now. not many teams would come close to them at the minute. but what is still hurting me is the United defeat though.

Cheers Ed and the rest of the Liverpool posters on here. I was a bit worried about tonight but that was a decent performance from Chelsea and if we play like that regularly we’ll win more than we lose this season.

Commiserations Nine. I think on the whole, Chelsea were clearly the better team. Liverpool looked so tired. I’d say that it would be alarming, had I not expected it. I think this game will help the lads get to a better level of fitness but this was also a problem for us last season.
So often I was complaining last season as we won many matches because we were winning them in this kind of state. So, Nine, you see what I mean now. We definitely didn’t dominate Chelsea. We had some great chances that didnt go in but so did they.
I do have one annoyance from this game and if this pisses people off them apologies in advance but I’m going to speak my mind. I don’t beat around the bush and it definitely isn’t always pleasant for others but…..
That was not a f***ing penalty. there was literally no contact, besides maybe the tip of one of his fingers. There are angles that show this.. angles that were available to the videos refs and my controversial opinion here is that they didn’t want to over-rule the woman ref.
This kind of shit can not creep into the game. If players can’t lift their shirts to show political messages then we certainly can’t allow it to be influenced by bias from modern standards. I could probably write a terrible book on this topic and I’m just disappointed to see this shit here tonight.
If that was a man ref, 100% it gets called back… I honestly hated that and I barely care about winning this game, so team bias levels are not strong. I just feel that this is actually sexist./ The female ref makes a huge error and we cant over-rule her. In my eyes I want refs and I give a shit what sex they are as long as they do their job. we all know how tough it is to get just one look from a potentially obstructed view and th3e pressures that come with it.. to say they were wrong in a video review is not ,a finger vagged in their face, it’s a ****ing REVIEW from multiple perspectives.
anyway I’ll leave it there. Congrats to Chelsea , who i cant believe were beaten 4-0 by Utd TBH. They played some great football tonight. they caused us so many problems. I think there are certainly question-marks on our defending. I think the same for our fitness… Chelsea looked a lot fitter than us. FSG maybe need to cool off on the US tours and focus more on getting the team fit.
it is nice to win this mini-cup. Unlike others, I dont count it as a real trophy though. No one off game is but it’s definitely nice to get them. If our lads come through it ok, it’s another step towards catching up to the others in terms of fitness.

Nil, it;’s not pretty. I am separating myself from this nonsense and will say that the Chelsea lads on here have never once shoved a victory in my face. Honestly, I’d hate and actually just go into a rage if someone did that to me. We won that game and you didnt come on and say anything to them… Just really poor show.
We pride ourselves on our character and our class at Liverpool.

Mak, don’t agree that the pen wasn’t over-ruled because the ref was a woman and they were on some sort of mission not to contradict her. That would be foolish if they did as impossible to hide and would have the inverse effect of what they would be wanting to achieve.
The VAR video was inconclusive and I believe if that’s the case then they cannot over-rule the ref’s decision, think it states this in the rule book. My first opinion was no pen, and I maintain that now, but VAR actually did it’s job.
It was one incorrect decision, and one many refs would call, in an otherwise very good performance from the ref. My only gripe would be the offside calls seemed to take ages, maybe that’s a new policy?
Chucky, we all know you’re still upset about that final. Truth is, even without our perfectly good penalty we still scored another goal to your grand total of zero. 😉

Careful 3P’s…. not going to mention you scored the 2nd goal in the 88th minute when my Spuds were throwing the kitchen sink while playing with 7 strikers and 2 CB’s to try and equalize after the first “goal” because that would kinda ruin your argument about the first goal not really counting… don’t think Poncho would be taken off full-backs and adding center forwards with 10 minutes to go with the score 0-0…
But like I said, not going to mention that… 🙂

much better game than i thought it woiuld be for the neutral
chelsea really stepped up and looked very dangerous and bar some better finishing would/should have won in normal time
Pulisic looks a very tidy player and nice to watch, real goal threat and his disallowed goal…for a second i thought it was Hazard!
Pool look a litle flat, but 2 games in…to be expected, strange team choice to start though i thoughtfemale ref, this had me in stitches at full time, firstly she wa very good, not brilliant but very good, she did make a howler, that was never a pen, but then ANY ref could and have made those, the only dissapointment is VAR not overturning, evem one of the pundits said they likely did not overturn the result because of the situation and special circumstances and not wanting to make her look bad
this is where it gets silly and funny, the amount of crawling being done to not sau anything bad about a ref by any pundit pr host was cringy!!!

I’m not sure it was a penalty either but Adrian admitted there had been contact in his post match interview and even the replays couldn’t clearly show whether it was or wasn’t a penalty the Ref gave what she thought she saw which is all they can do and VAR won’t overule if it’s not a clear and obvious error and it was difficult to say that’s what it was.
Overall I thought the Ref had a very good game.
Also congrats to both teams in playing such a good game in very difficult conditions so early into the season.

as i said 999 i agree she had a good game but at that level whever is reffing should it was just funny to see how pundits were very careful what they said would have been different under a male ref
i just find it funny that when people break down barriers in sport or whatever it often goes completly theother way and no one seems to mind, its like the emporers new clothes!

Nine it was a very good game mate. I presume it was very hot and humid over there yet both teams pressed well
Young mount did very well when he came on. I wasn’t surprised by Chelsea last night. They have a very good side.
I’m hoping our defensive lapses are down to fitness and the season only starting. We were sloppy but that’s understandable
Adrian did very well. Firmino is the absolute perfect false number nine for us. He’s started the season fire.
Don’t think much more can be said about mane. Klopp has turned him into a world class player.

once again i totally agree, point i was making is no one else on tv did and they treated the fact she was a female differently they would had it been a male ref but with the exact same dicisions…
not about a female ref or her performance but how she was treated because of that. if more people just let them get on without all the fuss it would be better…

Sean, thanks for that as you know I feared the worst last night but I think last night demonstrated we’ll not be too far off 6th place once we’ve got a full squad to choose from and given time and a fair crack at the transfer window to fill in a couple of gaps there’s every chance of Frank building a new and very decent Chelsea team.
The game swung back in Liverpool’s favour when Firmino came on great little player who compliments both Salah and Mane.
Hopefully last night and the travel hasn’t taken too much out of both of us ahead of the weekend PL fixtures. Cheers 9’s
