Interesting the little mini-debate about girly refs and lino’s…
On one hand, why not? At the end of the day, as long as whoever is doing is competent then it doesn’t really matter…
One the other hand, if the Women’s World Cup was all female (with not a male in site) and the men was all men’s, why crossover?? What is there to gain from deliberately doing this, unless the ref’s in turn happen to be the best in the world, and not at all gender based? (Which I doubt!).
Not quite the same thing but I remember all the hullabaloo when a woman golfer entered on the men’s tour (and subsequently tanked!), certain male golfers were suggesting it’s only fair if the men were allowed to play on the girly tour, which obviously never happened.

Not an unlikely move by UEFA alongside playing major European Finals in outposts like Baku. They like pushing the boundaries under this particular President.
I’m not against it and Sian Massey – Ellis has been a very good linesperson in the PL I just hope the players on Wednesday night are respectful of the officials although that shouldn’t make any difference as to whether they are male or female.

Personal opinion. Too much political correctness for me.Back to the match. Think Chelsea will be up for it after Sunday. They dont look half as dangerous without Hazard (obvious!). Could easily go either way.

To be fair to Adlab it is unusual to have 3 female officials for a big game like this I can’t think where it’s happened previously but Stephanie Frappart is meant to be a very good Referee and Sian Massey- Ellis as we all know is a very good linesperson.

You look at Chelsea’s team on Sunday and it was severely weakened yet they still did well. Mistakes killed them
We should be winning tonight as they are still missing key players but anything can happen in a one off game.
We have the squad to mix it up tonight so would like to see Matip, mane and Keita come in
If we keep playing that high a line then it’s a huge risk. We conceded far to many chances in our last two games. We seem to playing nearly on the half way line these days. Last season it was well organizedand it looked like we played a good few yards back then our previous two games

Having seen a lot of female refs in the grass roots leagues, they’re pretty much on par with the male ones, some poor, some good and some exceptional ones. What you do see is the the difference in the players if a decision goes against them, a bit less aggression and more questioning, they tend to show a bit more respect, for me it will be interesting to see if that trait carries on into the professional game. It will also be interesting to see how they deal with the diving and feigning injury, which is rare in the women’s game, would be funny to see the ref tell a player to man up…..Pagan

It really does wind me up that even the pre season and friendly competitions (Community Shield, Super Cup) are no longer free to air. Can they not just let these go for once? Any opportunity to make money. Wouldn’t surprise me if they start charging fans to queue up for autographs soon.
