Sean, if you can’t be confident of facing this Utd side, you’ll never be confident facing Utd. I realise form often goes out of the window in these games but we’re so poor.
The only positive, from Utd’s POV, is that Liverpool will come at Utd which will play to our one and only strength, countering at pace. One good ball and Rashford, James and Co could nick one.

Well this all got a bit out of hand didn’t it. You’re all quality posters but everyone needs to remember that tolerance levels need to be higher if a general football site like this is going to work.
Adlab winds me up at times with his anti Liverpool and anti Utd posts and I have no problem with people digging him out over it as long as posts are kept civil and sensible. I do like Adlab, aside from that though!
Mak, another quality poster but you need to tone down your reactions. I know you want to have your account deleted. I’d very much like you to reconsider. Give it a couple of days for the heat to die down following this and if you feel the same, I’ll happily delete it for you. Really don’t like editing or deleting posts but I’ve made a change to one where I think you went over the top with your insults.
Nil, as Mak suggests, you’re probably not the best person to start getting involved and lecturing other posters in times like these. You’re often the one reacting to anyone and everyone. Friendly advice, best stay away from things like this.
I’m closing this thread now and politely reminding everyone that we need to be more tolerant of other posters if a site like this is going to work.

Nine, you say it wouldn’t change that much but how often do we see a new caretaker manager coming in and things suddenly picking up? Often the manager in question doesn’t need to be better in any way. It’s enough that a change happens for things to start turning around, albeit in the short term (which is all that would be needed before a proper appointment is done in the summer). Assuming we lose to Liverpool, it’s about halting the decline rather than looking to bring in a “better” coach. Ole’s own caretaker spell is evidence of the above

This 8 point gap can very quickly evaporate. One Liverpool loss and, all of a sudden, it’s a 5 point gap. Really is nothing at this stage of the season

Chelsea.man why are you writing about Utd in a post about the top 6 teams?!

Nine, Utd would probably be stupid enough to pay that. I don’t actually have a problem with paying that kind of money for a manager. That kind of price would buy you an average player these days, unless you find a bargain somewhere. I’d much sooner spend that money on a manager, who is more important than any player than on a player. I mean, if someone offered Barcelona, for example, either Neymar the player or Guardiola the manager, I bet they’d go for the latter. Would it therefore be logical that the price to get either is roughly the same? Why then does the fee seem like an issue?
All that said, I don’t want Poch so this is more about the point itself re a fee for a manager, than me arguing Utd’s case to pay that particular fee.

Bloody hell Mav, a 10 year contract after 10 games or whatever it is, one of which was a 4-0 loss to the worst Utd side ever, a home loss to Valencia, a draw to Sheff Utd at home. I think things look bright for Chelsea too at present, but ridiculous to get carried away so early. I hope your comment was tongue in cheek ?

He definitely saved the season considering where they were but 7th was a really poor finish for that side regardless. They were getting to CL finals and finishing top 2 before then. Not a criticism of him as he’s a top manager. Just pointing out the similarities between him and Poch this season

Pep is absolutely the best in the world at what he does. Which is taking the best squad in a league, tweaking it and making them an unstoppable force. I’m yet to be convinced he can take a side not used to winning things, build them and make them a force.
As for Poch, he just looks to be coming to the end of his shelf life at Spurs. Aside from the fact I think Poch is overrated, I think his season this season reminds me a lot of Klopp’s last at Dortmund where he almost took them down. He hadn’t become a bad manager. He had merely outstayed his welcome and a change was needed, much like in Spurs case

Yeah he tends to avoid the rebuilding jobs so Juventus are the one with least amount of tweaking needed.
Either way, I really can’t see him breaking his contract. He’s never done so before, I don’t think. Although, I don’t think he’ll sign a new one which means he has another season after this one

I don’t think so but I certainly hope so. Regardless of when he goes, it will be interesting to see what he does next. Considering he usually goes for the strongest side in a league, my bet would be the Juve job. PSG probably wouldn’t interest him. Back to Barca post-Messi to create another legacy there? Huge risk with that one as they look to be a side in decline and need a big rebuild.

Would be a little bit funny if we swapped a manager who lost to Newcastle away for the only other manager to have lost to Newcastle this season, albeit he was at home (Poch)!
I tell you what. I do find it a bit odd how Rafa was an absolute genius for keeping Newcastle up (whilst playing dreadful football) but Steve Bruce is deemed an awful manager yet is looking like doing pretty much the same job.
Special mention this weekend to Chelsea who are on brilliant form. I stand by my point that it’s far too early to judge them (and Frank) yet though. Let’s see how they pick themselves up after a down turn in form. So far, so good though!

Nine, appreciate the sentiment. However, there really is no need to feel for Utd fans, not that many do! The Bury fans have lost their football club for good. Things like that are what we should save those kind of feelings for. Utd being a bit crap for a few years after decades of dominance is merely more evidence of the cyclical nature of football. It’s someone else’s turn now.
Utd will be back when we sort out the many problems at the club. If I died tomorrow, though, I’d have experienced as many highs through football as anyone could want to experience in a lifetime.
My guess from here would be Ole being given the boot after a Liverpool drubbing. Carrick temporary until the end of the season while we assess out options but with the proviso that it’s DEFINITELY only temporary. Either that or Allegri straight away

As I’ve been saying for a long time, Ole was the perfect caretaker manager but, from the moment Utd stupidly announced him as the permanent successor to Jose, he was on borrowed time. To think he could take on a challenge as big as the Utd job after taking Cardiff down and then managing in Norway was laughable. He’ll be given the Liverpool game and will go after a dreadful defeat. Mark my words

Well I hate to say I told you so about Newcastle game but I did. Remember what I said about defeat to Liverpool sealing Ole’s fate, too.
