Defo a 3 horse-race now,and there is so much footy left to play[without stating the bloody obvious]! Liverpool havent been playing well @ all lately, didnt deserve to win any of their 4-5 games.

5th February 2019 at 8:28 pm #32965Nine I think people see the quality in depth c$ty have and expect them to win every game by a cricket score. You say none of the top 3 are playing particularly well, c$ty have won 3 games recently with 3-0 3-0 3-1, beat Arsenal 3-1, & beat us. Yes they lost to Newcastle but 1 loss is hardly a blip when you look at the way they have still been dismantling teams & we have been struggling to a couple of narrow wins, maybe a couple of which we probably didnβt deserve, then dropping points in the last 2 games.

5th February 2019 at 8:53 pm #32966AnonymousYes and City have their players back, where-as our injury problems are not going to be resolved. Gomez’s has suffered complications and I think he underwent surgery the other day. Our defence stays rubbish until he gets back.

5th February 2019 at 9:40 pm #32970The facts realistically suggest from the current table that 3 teams have the chance to finish 1st.
I’m not entirely sure on the meaning on a Pendulum swinging or “it’s theirs for the taking”. So is that implying the team currently occupying 1st will just decline?
Every team goes through a bit of a slump over the course of the season. If you take Leicester’s example they developed a gap of points between Spurs, but almost allowed them to catch up.
I think the team occupying 1st are in the ascendancy. But of course it’s the challenge of now maintaining that with 13 games left. I never bought into the furore from the media. They want their headlines and their column inches, nothing else. They have very little respect for this Sport.
Manchester City have a great array of players and very strong depth overall. But one should never be put of in aspiring to achieve. There’s always that belief, hope and confidence.

5th February 2019 at 11:25 pm #32971It’s about momentum Nil and I think the momentum has swung City’s way this week that’s all.
Whether the momentum stays with City we will see as you rightly say Liverpool still have a 3 point advantage.
First of all I thought City would win it then I changed my view and thought Liverpool would win it and now I couldn’t call it.

6th February 2019 at 6:58 am #32972In the last ten games City have dropped 12 points, whilst Liverpool have dropped 7. City have lost to 3 of the teams outside the top 6, Liverpool have drawn against 2.
There’s a long way to go and Liverpool, City and Spurs will most likely drop more points. Even the lead at the top may change a little. But all this “City will run away with it now” or whatever makes me think if you can’t handle competition then maybe you should try watching a different sport, or at least grow up a little and stop crying.

6th February 2019 at 8:35 am #32974I can’t see the Toffee’s getting much tonight, they’re all over the place at the moment, but they are still in with a shout of 7th and the Europa League so they do have something to play for other than just pride. I draw would be nice but I don’t see it.

Everton are dreadful
Easy enough win for city tonight
Alfie totally agree. Injuries and poor form are starting to affect us now
I fully expect city to be top Sunday night

6th February 2019 at 10:11 am #32977They have to beat Chelsea first Sean. π
threeps all true mate but its also true that Liverpool have dropped more points and let in more goals in the last 5 games than the previous 20.
It’s all about the last 13 games now

6th February 2019 at 11:06 am #32980The standard Liverpool set in those 20 games was unbelievable, best in their history. Unfair for any fan fan to expect it to be maintained all season.
Wasn’t that long ago when City were having a blip and questions being asked if they could keep up. Form comes and goes, I still expect more twists to come.

6th February 2019 at 11:22 am #32981Silva should have been sacked a long time ago, dreadful manager. The one managing the Wolverines on the other hand,is doing a marvellous job.

6th February 2019 at 12:02 pm #32985Threeps, we were actually pretty average in a lot of those 20 games, it was that defensive pairing that bailed us out on multiple occasions. With that gone, Iβm afraid weβre now seeing a truer reflection of where we are. So Iβm to be convinced that this is just a blip.

6th February 2019 at 12:15 pm #32986We weren’t pretty average, we were pretty good. People compare to last season by looking only at the attacking side whilst ignoring the facts that at the back we were pretty terrible at times. In an ideal world we would have last seasons attack with this seasons defence but that is not going to happen. Our style has change but overall the team is much better than last season hence why we are top.
I don’t get this “the defence bailed us out”. No, the team was set up to defend better. The play style evolved to produce better results. A defence cannot bail a team out over half a season.

6th February 2019 at 12:29 pm #32988Threeps, if we are now tactically better set up to defend, why have we conceded as many goals in our last 5 games as we did in our first 19 games? We canβt just blame it all on a few injuries. Or if we can, it shows it wasnβt the set up after all.

6th February 2019 at 1:00 pm #32990I think injuries/illness to 3/4 (plus 1st choice replacement CB) of the back line might have something to do with it. Even if you have the most perfect tactic/set up in the World missing those players would have an effect.
Or are you suggesting something else? Sounds like you think our first 20 games were flukes and now we have resorted back to type?

6th February 2019 at 1:24 pm #32991Threeps, I wouldn’t be so crude as to say flukes – those wins were based on excellent work by certain players, so they were deserved. But the team should not be so dependent on a few individuals. They need to be more robust than that. All teams experience injuries. West Ham had a string of injuries the other night. But their fight made up for it. I can quite easily take us dropping points *if* we put in a shift in every game. Have we been doing that? Wasn’t Klopp billed as the man who made players run through walls for him? Not seen much of that recently.
