You need a no 6 in such a system to have some control on the chaos or you’ll just get picked off on the counter.
Bingo, football isn’t as simple as “tell him or sell him” and it wasn’t Slot’s tinkering that started his inefficiency as a DM.
Gravenberch is not a tough tackler, smash the opposition type, he’s not a quarterback sitting playmaker, he hasn’t got good defensive positional desipline. He has a turn and accelerate move that can be very effective but that’s about it.
He’s the best we have as a DM, but he’s not a very good DM.
Hence worried.

If players can´t perform to their duties at the club they need to be sold, simple as that, players do not get to dictate where they play on the field.
If they got a problem with where the head coach wants them to play, they are not team players, they would arrogant cunts that think more of their career than the club they play for.

As mentioned in my lengthy post previously, Iraola hasn’t employed a true defensive mid (6) per se. Scott and Adams primarily played the pivot for him. Any pivot player has to be a hybrid 6-8 (even a 10 when it’s called upon). It’s the triggers and awareness of where the opposition’s next pass following a turnover is what’s the most important. Aggressive, tactical recovery runs to stifle any potential counters cutting out passing lanes and pushing the opposition into areas they don’t want to go in. This is where we were shite last season (and toward the end of the previous).
Our shape mid block and lack of urgent triggers cost us. There was instant space and targets to exploit.
As long as the correct shape is executed, Grav and Mac can provide that balance. Would definitely like to see another mid come in tho. No question. Think we missed a trick on Gomes. Alex Scott would fit the bill in my eyes.

We need someone like a prime fabhino. Tough, sits and protects the back 4 but can play aswell. Fabhino, rodri , caciedo ..soneone like that.

Bingo we are discussing suitability. Sure Gravenberch can be told you’ll play as the 6, in fact he probably will be, but is he suitable given his skillset? I’d argue no, I think we need someone else.

basically you lads are saying Gravy is not a holding midfielder and I am saying that is up to the new head coach whether you like it or not.
All of you keep going back to last season where we sucked and all of you are implying that no player can change their position from last season, even if we know that Gravy works as a holding midfielder.
Ginger has not realized that all of our wingers can chance positions, nobody is sure to be on the left flank or right flank until we see how Iraola will put up the team.
Most of you have already decided how he is gonna play the team without seeing one game under him.

Agree with some of that Bingo. We’ve just assumed there’s a continuation from what was previously rolled out. Through a sequence of things happening over 12 months and the multiple changes and transition, we are basically starting out.
We are assuming before Iraola’s even managed a single game and selected 11.
We know he’s not going to obviously completely play a player out of position, but I’m sure there’s going to be room for flexibility and adaptability which players hopefully try and receive well and be on board together.

Níl what’s the definition of insanity again, doing the same mistake over and over again and expecting different results.
Playing Gravy in that advanced position again and expecting different results is not the smartest, playing him again as a holding midfielder and expecting the same results as before would be a lot smarter.
We will know a lot more about the team or how Iraola wants to play after tonight’s game.
