Going forward, Richard Hughes has to learn from his monumental blunder of overpaying on Isak by at least £45m.

You don’t make good business deals by hysterically and emotionally paying way over the odds for a player.

Thus, going forward, he needs to get his act together, and pay the correct price for our prospective big signings coming up in the summer window, most notably Salah’s replacement e.g. Barcola, Diomande

“If, and it’s a BIG IF, we can get both Barcola and Diaomande, with Rio as an excellent backup, I can tell you right here, right now, good things will happen at Liverpool next season – though to fund these deals, we’d need to sell Gakpo first, though.”

Just to add, next season, we need two top-quality, robust wingers with pace, power, goals and assists just like before with Mané, Salah and Díaz. With Rio as a top-quality backup for squad depth.

I don’t care who they are, as long as they can deliver us the biggest titles ASAP, and they may not even be Barcola or Diaomande.

The extra 61m on Isak is Footydebate’s subjective number. No-one else’s.

Have we had full value for our money for Isak? Have we balls. Terrible season.

Will we get full value in the long term for Isak? Who knows. I’m not Mystic Meg.

Was $125 the right price? No, not in my books. Said before, about 100m would have been about right.

Why did we pay $125m? Because Newcastle wanted it that’s why. Isak is still young, had two prior prolific seasons, Sweden International. He is prime real estate. Newcastle needed a hefty sum to help their rebuild. We bid £110m plus add-ons which was rejected at the start of August as Newcastle were unwilling to sell their player without certain conditions being met. $130m was batted about but finally we settled for $125.

Fact is we could afford him and bought him. Was it the right price? No. I was and will always be permanently worried about ‘that groin’ of his so would’ve have been more comfortable with less but we paid it and we move on. Not all of us though.

I’ve copied this to my clipboard as I think I might need to post it again.

In reality, while Slot, Hughes and Edwards are here…no player is going to have a good season. Quite honeslty, if the status quo is kept, we really could be looking at a Spurs-type season.

I just read the first tweet of the season from Salah again, some idiots were calling Wirtz and Isak the biggest upgrade ever on Nunez and Diaz, Salah just asked that we would not disrespect our former players as those players laid down the standards for our last league title.

I don´t know why you lads are so obsessed about a player price, Isak is on a 6 year contract, so effectively we are paying around 23-25 million a season for his service plus wages.

Then despite what ever opinion songman has on the striker, which is basically the only reason why we keep discussing Isak, he is actually the 2nd best striker in the league. The only forward I would take over him is Haaland.

I’d sorta agree with Song on this one Bingo, whilst Isak is a good striker, I do feel it was an ego sign considering we already had Ekitike over the line. To me, Isak was good, but has suffered a bit too much with injuries for my liking and more than likely will be carrying injuries for thr test of his career.
Robustness comes at a cost, Isak isnt robust at all and in my opinion…we overpaid by £30ish million….hopefully he’ll prove his worth.

So what if we overpaid for him, nobody will bat an eyelid if he wins the league, that is a 6 year project he signed up for and when fit he actually plays almost every game. He clocked up 40-50 games a season for Newcastle when fit and I can’t blame a player for a contact injury when playing. It’s not like he just broke down and his hamstring snapped. It was a collision and a broken bone and the good thing about bones is that they heal.

I bet nobody here would have wanted Roberto Baggie between the years 28-32. Basically in his prime fighting injuries and delivering.

Then right now the same argument applies almost to Ekitike, he has had a hamstring injury before and now out for a estimated 261 days. He is only one major injury behind Ísak!

Even Shearer had his fair share of injuries and could have been described as a injury prone player, Sheva as well, I’d rather take one season of utter brilliance then a mediocre player for 5 years

Roberto Baggie? Isn’t that a long lost cousin of Roberto Baggio? Haha!

On Isak, it just a personal opinion, it just seemed odd to me as I said with Ekitike on the books….but the entire season has been odd and rudderless so let hope he keeps fit and bags them goals in next season.

I know but that is only if you buy into the bullshit songman has been feeding us, he is still looking at this project from one season and the first season and that is that, Isak is a great striker, way better than anyone he has mentioned this season. He is using Goykeres as a reference and he is hardly better than Nunez.

Isak and Ekitike can operate together in a number of system we have used this season, Ekitike has preferred to drift out on the left flank for his whole career, he is a upgraded version of Gakpo in my opinion and might even become better than Diaz.

There are not many poster over here that dare to call out a player actually, you know that as well as me, I am not worried about Isak and Ekitike as they will be great together, we have only had about 45 minutes with them on the same page this season.

I mean half the posters here prefer not to say anything and only argue against others. It´s kinda like I view Slot at the moment, just a idiot who always argue against others without ever having an opinion of his own.

In my personal opinion of Slot he is a man that sold his soul to break down one of the best squad ever, he has no influence, we have seen 200 better coaches at the club. He is just the fool that got the contract after Klopp. He will have a mention behind his name at all times that someone greater than him provided him with the chances he got and his only virtue at this club is keeping his mouth shut up until we won the title.

for example that diamond we have been flirting with, with Wirts behind both Ekitike and Isak. We have also played a 442 wide system but the problem with that is Gakpo who is non existent in every game we have. Salah could provide in that system but when Gakpo forces his way on his right foot for every opportunity we get found out. I don´t wanna call any call of mine for the past two seasons except I called him out to be the crap he is while half the forum was on Diaz. How anyone here had the brains, sorry Rob to call them equal players is beyond me.

The only way forward for Slot is if he gets the two most exciting wingers in Europe right now, Diomande and who ever you want to call 2nd to him. Then a perfect season until the January window and he goes back on all his ideas and embraces Klopp.

I can see the squad getting better but not a single substitute under Slot, he has proven that this season that every call he makes we concede a goal 80% of the time. I just don´t find him smart enough for the job and he also lacks the charisma to handle the job.

What could have been under him if he had decided to party in Liverpool instead of Ibiza with Rooney! At some local pub there, just having the best time of his life but he chose Ibiza and Rooney who is kind of infamous for his grandma parties!

I´ve never had respect for the man after that!!!!

I am slightly intoxicated so I just hope you get the jist of that but I wanna state one other thing, we have been referenced a few times this season as agreeing on all but that is not the case, like I predicted the big window or a sale of the club.

When the big window happened I stopped worrying about the sale of the club, I had been called crazy for a number of years over here for predicting a big window like we had last summer, I think that is actually just the half of it right now.

The club could easily spend 500 million without any sales, it just depends on how long the contracts are, FFS look at that ukranian at Chelsea and how much he cost them, they just have to pay no matter what. He is still collecting a salary. They are still forced into paying for said player.

Chelsea are like 800 million behind us in the books, I dont think there is a club in a healthier state than us. Except we got the crappiest head coach ever, who only purpose at the club is saying yes!

We will find out this summer what the plan is, if not heads will roll, there is no argument anyone of us could make to prevent that from happening!

That crappy head coach only has a one year contract and is not likely to get a extension meanwhile some of the top managers around the world will be available after the world cup! It costs us nothing to sack him!!! Equal to Jones salary or something like that! Same with the whole backroom staff, we are set up for new management!

Bingo, be a good move for him if it happens. Slowly paced league. If he stayed, he’d struggle with his hammy again next season.

I´m gonna miss him, I think he has to be the best keeper in the league since Cech actually, there is always a new generation of keepers that come up but I never saw any weakness in his game. Name me another keeper with more assists or created chances for example? Or another better in one vs one situations, I can´t recall how many times he has bailed us out at the last moment. Full command of the box as well, excellent communications and one of his best qualities was never letting a error getting to him. He usually stepped up his game if he made an error.

I did not see much of Clemence so I can´t judge him and I don´t really think we could compare them even as they are in two different eras, I remember Grobbelaar but that is also a era Alison can´t be compared to as the rules for keepers were so different. The keeper is a ball player now, I doubt we are gonna see another keeper like Ali for a while. Marmadashvili might come good but I am worried about how one footed he is and his distribution, it´s very easy to press him compared to Alison.

I hope Alison can extend his career by a few years by moving to Italy, the climate makes a difference when recovering from old injuries, like I don´t dare spending winter back home in Iceland anymore unless I am working. He is still one of the best keepers around in the world but that hamstring of his needs treatment in a better climate.

I do wonder about that Costa rumor if there is any truth to Hughes looking at him, that last set piece goal must have hurt, I would be furious with the defense for letting that slip by them unchallenged and quite disappointed with myself.

Honestly I would rather have Kelleher, I think his communications with the defense were at a world class stage, he proved that in the finals he played! He has to be the most decorated number 2 at the club ever kind off. I can´t remember any other 2nd keeper that got that many finals. He was also on very low contract at the club, I think about 20k a week or something. Its a honest wage of course but he was undervalued at the club, his transfer fee confirms that. Same with Diaz, he was undervalued and we got a huge fee for him compared to his contract.
