the ball carrying stats with a shot on target from last season actually shocked me Nil, both our main wingers had 0.7 and 0.8 carries that ended up with a shot per game.
Barcola has 2.06 carries per game last season, some might say it´s only the french league but those stats carry into the champions league and the world cup.
Munoz is also capable of beating our average from last season easily, Rio should find get there or there abouts as well and then Gakpo can sacrifice his own game for us for one season and prove why we are paying him 250k a week.
I´m not his biggest fan but there is no difference between him and Sarr or Minteh in expected output per season, except Gakpo holds resale value as he committed to a new long term contract here and we can get back his transfer fee or more.
Stop trying to dictate what kind of forward we are looking for and look at the current profile of players we are currently looking at.
Every profile follows the same attributes, you just need to look at what we want…

2nd September 2026 at 11:14 pm #255601Fans are likely in their Behaviour Bingo being used to a Framework and a Type.
I have lots of times and will always visit examples in Teams from the Mid 90s and the late 80s.
Lately, Brendan Rodgers’ 2013/14 Squad.
I am like this now with Jurgen klopp. I’m drawing more to perspective, what worked well for us and an Ideology. I’m more likely to express those phrases like a New Mane, or a Henderson, or a Coutinho.

2nd September 2026 at 11:16 pm #255602how do you guys think you’ll do this year? for me some of your signings have been pretty bad, and I’ve no idea why you haven’t sorted your midfield out, but on the other hand you’ve also been hit pretty hard with injuries up front and of course king mo has left the building. I know where united will finish this year: in the seventh ring of hell. but where do you guys feel you will? I can see arsenal being run close by Chelsea, and then city in third, but besides that everyone looks either shite or in total disarray.

2nd September 2026 at 11:18 pm #255603Mac you are so making my point, good players adapt the rest of them get to sit on the bench until shipped out.
We are mainly discussing out option going forward but our fullbacks need to have excactly that discussion with Iraola and just stop trying to be forwards.
The same point goes to Gravy and potentially Macca, they both have the capability to operate as a number 6 as long as they listen to their manager.
Nyoni also just needs to focus on the simple things as a number 6. Endo always focuses on the simple things as a number 6.

2nd September 2026 at 11:29 pm #255604Minteh seemed just something for media to chew the fat on. Least likely for anything to happen.
Saar apparently had his bags packed and ready to go.
I really hope we learn to Scout Better.

3rd September 2026 at 12:47 am #255608the most influential transfer policy we have is no assholes, if you have ever met a professional footballer you will know that those are rare, I got two nephews that made it as pro´s. One is a outstanding asshole and would have had a much greater career, the other it a outstanding individual and person and probably made more money than the former.
BTW we are finally getting close to the age of handball tactics from the 90s in football, Rob you will enjoy this if I can make this rant long enough as back in the day while I was training both football and handball, plus basketball. No sport had as much emphasize on tactics as handball.
I had to learn overloads at the age of 10 in handball, on both flanks, I either played as the shooter on either flank or in the middle dictating play. The closest we have is a 7 vs 7 game in football, I never had a football coach that explained how you could overload one flank in football but it is a easy lesson and it works.
There is another lesson in handball and that is you can´t switch off for the 60 minutes of play, every time the ball goes out the clock stops. I would actually like to introduce the sub rule in handball to football, where you can actually sub off any player at any given moment. It´s unlimited subs… So you can have one team for attack and another team for defense.
But then at 11 years old I had to learn 15 different systems to overload the opposition, I would not say that any of my football coaches tried to explain space in the same way but the lesson went into my football game. I preferred to play as a defender in football or in midfield even though my coaches put me up front a few times.
So these triangles we are creating now intrigue me, I really wanna see how we are gonna lineup before I make my judgement about the team.
We spent 120 on Barcola, we spent 120 on Wirtz and we spent 120 on Isak. I wanna see them play together before insisting these two windows were a failure because we spent 360+ on our strike force and it´s just beginning to make sense.
You are blaming Hughes for assembling the most expensive strike force ever, this window is a failure after we assemble the most expensive strike force ever before they have played a game together.
You should be entertained and excited about our next game but you are listening to the journos lol. FFS!

3rd September 2026 at 3:00 am #255613Well thats the transfer window shut. So weve replaced
1) jacquet for konate(who was pish last year).
2) Araujo in (defensive woes sorted)
3) Nyoni for curtis(cant tackle and physically impose himself).
4) salah gone(but he was shit anyway judging by peoples opinion from last season)
5) robertson replaced by tsimikas.
On top of this we have signed
1) Barcola (top signing for the wings)
2) Munoz (superfast winger).
So going by what everyone was saying last season “slots got a great team he should be getting more out of them”… and the fact wirtz is settled, isaks fit, ngumoha has had his breakthrough, kerkez has now been employed with the tactics that suit his game, the shadow of jotas death now not hanging over us… i assume rob, ginger, threeps, sean, macattack, adidas, notorious should be expecting a title or a title challenge as a bare minimum from iraola??? Because when you add the sum of parts we have a better team than last year.

3rd September 2026 at 5:20 am #255616A very simplistic way of looking at it Asien.
Do I expect a title challenge? No. But I expect a change in style for the boring crap from last year. The intensity may take a while for those players to get the weekly holidays and half arsed training out of their system, but it will come.
Is the team full of holes? Yes. We are short of a good defensive minded midfielder, a RB that can play RB and not always injured and a RW at the least.
Was it last year? Well we had a RW who just came off the greatest season by an indivual in the history of the league, now we have no one who naturally plays there. Don’t think many called Salah out, we called Slot of for his mundane tactics that stiffeled him. Gravenberch had a good season previous when he was defensive minded, last season he went forward a lot more leaving holes and Slot did nothing to fix this until the last few games.

3rd September 2026 at 7:05 am #255620Asian, do you really set the bar that low, that replacing Salah’s worst season would be enough?
No, we should of course have the ambition to replace prime Salah (even if impossible). The fact that we have known since March he is out and even longer that the day is coming makes the succession planning look non existent._____________________________

Cl football be a brilliant achievement for iarola
Threeps has explained it all. Two things i want to see the manager improve is gaps in midfield and conceding soft silly goals. I want to see the style he played at Bournemouth. Aggressive intense football.
Football we can enjoy to watch. My concern, be it only pre season and a few games, i have seen nothing change. Its like watching slot. Far to early to judge but i was hoping to see even a glimmer of change from that crap last year

You summed up our window and yours spot on. At the moment, we’re in a straight fight for the Champions League spots. Maybe we add a cup run, but I don’t see us pushing much further yet.
What’s odd is that the two biggest clubs in England seem to be on a downward trajectory, while the wannabes are trying to elevate themselves. We might be about to change that with the new owners. As for United… until the Glazer sharks are out, you’re doomed.
The Utd/LFC rivalry is still the biggest in the league, but it’ll be nice to see a top of the table scrap between the two…obviously, with LFC winning out 😃

3rd September 2026 at 1:36 pm #255646@threeps “We are short of a good defensive minded midfielder, a RB that can play RB and not always injured and a RW at the least.”
Thats a very simplistic “excuse” which were present pretty much all last season and why we failed last year… the whole right side had issues, that with kerkez and defensive cover were many of the reasons we had a poor season.
Also since we spent “£450mill” last year but werent the top net spenders + this year we are the top net spenders… shouldnt we be expecting a title challenge with 700mill spent in nearly 12 months?? Yet you need more players in??
Beggars belief how you expect 1 manager with an injury hit season with many other variables to expect a title challenge yet the other is expected to be just “improving” the squad, that with a bigger outlay??
Results matters and so far its not happening, obviously rome wasnt built in a day. Btw im 100% behind iraola, this is just to see what your expectations are… after all the hounding and crying last season with “hes got a world class team and needs to get more out”.

3rd September 2026 at 1:44 pm #255647@macattack im pretty you were the guy, rightly or wrongly, shouting from top of the roofs to get shot of salah, even put chiesa in his place… so in reality if he was so crap and weve added another 250 million pound worth of players we should be challenging for the title, no?

3rd September 2026 at 1:51 pm #255649@sean thank you for replying, i personally expect a champions league place as a bare minimum… what with having wirtz, barcola and isak you wouldnt expect anything less.
But if we do come 6th and we see major progression in players making it from the youth system to the first team(koumas, abe, nyoni a bare minimum), i would be still very happy. Klopp didnt make top 4 in his first season and barely made it top 4 the following season… but you could see big improvements in the squad.
From my experience Unfortunately most people cannot enjoy football if the results are not there… deffo if we are behind early on(which has become a trademark for 3 seasons now).

3rd September 2026 at 2:08 pm #255658‘More than paper talk’ – we were clearly in for him.
Palace Manager on Sarr….
“He has to digest for sure because it’s a dream for a lot of players to play with this kind of club [Liverpool]. He had a good opportunity but in the end it didn’t work. If he wants to continue, you have to have a good season with us as he did last year. We know he needs time”

3rd September 2026 at 2:13 pm #255660@threeps here we go with your high horse “tactics” spiel. You cant play certain tactics with holes and injuries in your team. Slot had a crazy amount of injuries on the right side, a major transitional year with players leaving and coming in, a fall out with salah, tactics can take time to implement. Wouldnt you say those were major factors to our poor form??
