I think our habit of losing first xi players for free got to stop. Then if there are upgrades or not can be argued.

21st April 2026 at 6:54 am #244341Sometimes letting a player go for free is better than putting them on a higher wage than their squad status or ability demands and we then struggle to sell.
I critised Edwards in his first term for this when everyone else wanted a statue made of him. He put players like Ox, Shaquiri, Keita, Clyne, Moreno, Origi and Karius on much higher wages than he should and we struggled to remove them.
Not sure what Konate’s proposed wage will be but if it’s around say 280k does he warrant that? Does Gravenberch for his reported 280k (I think). If they have another season like this one and we decide to upgrade will anyone want to buy them and match their wages?

21st April 2026 at 7:02 am #244342Agree with that Threeps, but thatโs his job to plan so we sell in advance of the decision to put on astronomical wages or get rid for free.
What I want for next season? Xabi.
Letโs fix our biggest problem now. Our players are good enough, Iโm sure._____________________________

21st April 2026 at 7:55 am #244345My fear is Hughes stays and Xabi refuses to work as a head coach under such a system currently implemented. I think Xabi is more of your complete manager type.

We all knew beto would cause him issues. Hes a huge man should be winning a lot mote duels but hes soft and is bullied
This team looks like the life is sucked out of them. That video in the dressing room after everton win and they all look depressed

21st April 2026 at 9:43 am #244349Xabi Alonso worked with a sporting director/director of football at Leverkausen, namely Simon Rolfes.

21st April 2026 at 9:46 am #244350Agree with all your points 3ps. At best, I’m on the fence with Konate. Not filled with any confidence and I’m actually desperate for a clean break.
Looking back, Endo’s contribution is missed as he supplemented both Mac Allister and Gravenberch.
In hindsight, Gravenberch should really have been a squad player, not somebody playing 40+ matches. He needs taken out and a Reset and we need either a Fabinho or a Gini which we never replaced.
Contradicting reports between now and the end of the season re Arnie. He should still go but my angst is more towards our recruitment team. I’m sure both Isak and Wirtz will perform loads better under a new Manager.

21st April 2026 at 9:48 am #244351As stated previously re Konate…
“Who knows how long his father was dying for while Konate was in a different country and then he has to process that death.
One id suggest is more deeply felt than Jotas.”_____________________________

21st April 2026 at 10:39 am #244354Ginger, with a little ai help:
Alonso/Rolfes vs Slot/Hughes โ key differences
Control over transfers
At Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso is heavily involved in shaping transfers alongside Simon Rolfes.
At Liverpool FC, Arne Slot gives input, but Richard Hughes leads within a club-defined model.Recruitment philosophy
Leverkusen: players are bought to fit Alonsoโs exact system.
Liverpool: players are bought to fit a long-term club model.Decision-making structure
Leverkusen: more collaborative, shared calls.
Liverpool: clearer hierarchy, sporting director has final say.Flexibility vs stability
Leverkusen: high upside, but tied closely to Alonso staying.
Liverpool: more stable and sustainable, less dependent on one coach.Leverkusen build with the manager โ Liverpool build above the manager.

21st April 2026 at 11:16 am #244356Then itโs up to Alonso to negotiate the terms of his input if the club want him.

21st April 2026 at 11:37 am #244357That’s my point. My fear is that if he isn’t happy then he won’t come, there’ll be plenty of opportunities for him elsewhere.
Remember that Edwards left the first time because of the power struggle with Klopp.
If these two stay, or certainly at least Hughes, I can see if severely hampering any recruitment for a new coach as no elite manager will work like that. This concern isn’t just regarding Alonso.
Nearly every club has a DoF but their roles and influence differ vastly.

21st April 2026 at 1:20 pm #2443593ps I think this will be their last big window actually, I donยดt see the club giving them new contracts as they will have finished this rebuild by the time their contracts expire. Any potential manager might be vary of working with them but they should see that neither one is here for the long term.
The main reason why I want Slot gone is because he canยดt protect his players from them, Edwards and Hughes will sell a first team player at any given moment if given high enough transfer fee.
Iยดm just hoping for a quick transition, it looks like Konate is signing, it also looks like we are getting Diomande who really excites me as a player. He will actually offer us some penetration into the box from either wing. Probably better than any winger we have at the club.
I donยดt believe we will have such a unbalanced squad after the summer, I actually believe that Edwards and Hughes will fix it but if that does not happen though, we might need everyone to resign before the winter window.

23rd April 2026 at 6:28 pm #244470This summer, there’ll be no more wasteful, paying highly over the odds, emotional, hysterical spending from Liverpool like the ยฃ125m spent on Isak, yet none of his comparable (and more productive and available) peers even cost more than ยฃ80m.
This time, I have the feeling, we’ll be far more clever and shrewd in the transfer market, targeting value for money players, promising youth players(like with Ngumoha), totally unknown/surprising players plus the occasional big, player, but only at the right price, no more being fleeced in deals, like Newcastle did to us.
And some big outgoings, of course, as Slot hinted, to fund our business, possibly the likes of Mac Allister going to Spain.

26th April 2026 at 3:30 pm #244622Wingers that can cross.
Just seen Neto’s sublime cross for Fernandez in the FA Cup semi and just compounds further how shit we are at crossing.
Isak thrived on quality balls in at Newcatle and to get the best out of him we need to add that to our attacking profile.

26th April 2026 at 5:15 pm #244623Not so much about next season, but if we can hold on the spirit and fight for the remaining 4 games without falling off the wagon and consolidate CL I would be satisfied considering all the different strands of adversity contributing to our season and damage as a result.
The Old Trafford game will be our most difficult hurdle. We found a way at the Hill Dickinson, but this outfit has more quality and will trouble us for sure.

26th April 2026 at 5:43 pm #244624We generally fuck it up against United. Only beaten them once in the last six games since that 7-0 demolition three years ago.
