Yes I would, I would rather have him than someone that turned us down for Real Madrid twice.

30th March 2026 at 8:46 am #242732It’s s bit of a stretch to dismiss Alonso as a future Manager on the basis that ‘someone that turned us down for Real Madrid twice’. As a player, he only jumped off a sinking ship in 2009 after 2 years of the turmoil of the Hicks & Gillett era. I’d be very surprised if Rafa didn’t fill him in with the full detail behind the scenes of the total shitshow that was going on even if he hadn’t worked it out himself. As a Manager, he turned us down to stick with his Leverkusen project where he’d just guided them to their first ever Bundesliga win going through the season unbeaten. He only went to Madrid last summer at the same time that Slot had just won the PL in his first season and, as I recall, I don’t think we were looking to replace him.

30th March 2026 at 9:42 am #242734@Redherring agree with your point about alonso… Not to mention he did stay at Liverpool for 5 seasons and we made a tidy profit on his sale.
Im not one to sack managers too quickly.. if slot goes and alonso/xyz comes in (He knows the city and the club) i just hope we give the manager time to build… i respect the arab owned clubs for the mere fact they support their managers(eddie howe, enrique and guardiola).
I hate real madrid and chelsea for that.. theyve probably changed more managers since 2000 then weve changed in a century… they have no identity with players and managers, spending silly amounts of money and in real madrids case arrogant, entitled and privileged(its amazing how they are still successful).

30th March 2026 at 12:24 pm #242744I definitely don’t want us to go down the road in changing Managers at the drop of a hat. Not good Ethos at all. I think this all comes down to appointing the right Sporting Director and allowing an actual appointment of a Manager Control in certain Key Decision-making and Operations.

30th March 2026 at 1:54 pm #242747red I´m just still a bit pissed off that he turned us down for Madrid before Slot signed. That´s all and I actually do prefer Nagelsmann over him.
Alonso is more than capable of adapting his tactics to fit the team but I think Nagelsmann has a clear vision for his next project and we would be an excellent fit for him.
If Alonso came in tomorrow I would celebrate and forget about Nagelsmann. Alonso knows the club, knows the fans, knows what we expect.

30th March 2026 at 5:37 pm #242768Getting more back on topic with this thread’s title/question. Clearly I/we need to see another CB – if not 2. Konate is probably going, but even if he ends up wanting to stay….do we really want to offer him a new contract? I’m sure it must have been mentioned/rumoured somewhere or other – although I’ve not seen it – but surely van Hecke must be featuring highly on our wanted list. Seems a no-brainer to me: lots of PL experience, VVD’s international partner, only 25, always impresses me when playing for Brighton. What’s not to like? Well, maybe BHA’s asking price – whatever that may be – but he’ll be entering the last 12 months on his contract in the summer which sort of heavily hints that he’s feeling ready for a move to a big(ger) club – with all due respect to Brighton who I really rate as an outfit. It may also keep VVD a bit more interested in staying a season or 2 longer.

31st March 2026 at 12:02 pm #242792Isn’t there a suspicion that Nagelsmann has a ‘skeleton hiding somewhere in the cupboard’? i.e. Why did Bayern sack him when he’d won the league in his first season and Bayern were sitting neck and neck with Leverkusen in March of 23/24 season, still in Champions League – and they just unceremoniously dumped him in the international break. May all be totally above board – but seems like he must have upset people internally ??

31st March 2026 at 12:10 pm #242793He was changing things around the club too quickly for the Bayern hierarchy, Bayern are very set in their ways and the top management there did admit that they might have sacked him too early.
That team needed a transition, which has happened now but at the time Nagelsmann was too quick to go about it. That team turned against Mane somehow, imagine that, Sadio explained it very well after he left the club.
I find it quite ironic though that most of the Bayern players then meet him on international duty.

31st March 2026 at 12:31 pm #242795On the bright side for the defense we did get two of the top prospect in Europe but both are out injured, I hope Leoni can come back after a pre-season and stay at the club, Jérémy Jacquet should also be back after a pre-season with his shoulder injury.
They would probably get some gametime if both were here and fit right now. Gomez can´t play more than 90 minutes per month.
I would give Konate another contract, I would not hesitate in doing so, he is still very young for a defender but I want another senior centerback in. Joe Gomez needs to step down and play in a lesser league, he can´t handle the league anymore. I love Gomez and I will look forward to seeing his testimonial before he leaves but he is finished at this level.
He was world class during that 2019 season.

31st March 2026 at 1:25 pm #242801Looking forward lots in actually seeing Leoni. Hopefully a new lease of life in Bradley. What’s happened to Stefan Bajectic? Is he still with us? If so, it just appears that he’s been ghosted.

2nd April 2026 at 2:02 pm #242871Rob “Enjoyed your notes Song after the ultra shit Wolves game I believe it was.”
Every manager can be criticised, because there is no manager (even Pep and Klopp) who does not make mistakes. So I I will definitely criticise Slot when he gets it wrong.
“We’ve had a full YEAR of this.”
Well, during this “full YEAR”, Slot won the Premier League, so what’s your point exactly?
Are you more concerned with how Liverpool play, instead of the trophies we win (and actually won)?
To me, winning comes first ALWAYS, and even better winning consistently, I don’t really care how we play – though of course you must be playing well or doing something absolutely right to win the toughest league in the world, the PL.

2nd April 2026 at 2:30 pm #242878I reckon Bajcetic is finished, the poor lad has played half a season in the last 3-4 seasons. He did impress with Las Palmas but then gets injured again. He has spent more time in the physio room than on the training grounds since he first debuted. Decent player but he is not capable of performing as he is made out of glass. He has been out for 761 days since his debut season and only played around 1000 minutes of football since 2021.

6th April 2026 at 3:53 pm #243154Definitely everything’s done with and at best realistically, we end up Qualifying for the Conference League (if we’re lucky!!) then one real enrichment I would take full of Confidence is a real good pre-season.
I mean players really giving it a go. And those on the Side-lines making a real-effort to recover.
And yes Ideally: A new Leader that players will instantly take to and buy into his vision and philosophy.

8th April 2026 at 11:27 pm #243363I want this man Sacked. Best Port of Call Inheritance of Jurgen’s team. Done well to win the Championship, but we’d already had cracks in between.
We need a change on Management.

9th April 2026 at 8:43 am #243373Just reading back on this thread but need to respond, Bingo, Alonso didn’t turn us down for Madrid. He turned us down as he just won the league with Leverkusen and wanted to stay there for another season. When the Madrid job became available Slot had just won the league so Alonso becoming available and the liverpool vacancy haven’t aligned.. yet.
Still concerned there might be a twist on the Alonso tale, and a lot of it depends on what Pep does. Could see either Enrique or Kompany move to City and their clubs move for Alonso. Or even Alonso moves to City, share some similar playing philosophies.
Whoever comes in, and please someone has to, they really need to get the training sorted to fix the fitness and intensity levels. Never seen us so lethargic and unfit. Rodgers and Hodgson had some poor times but never with such quality at their disposal that Slot has.

9th April 2026 at 6:04 pm #2433993ps don´t get me wrong I don´t dislike Alonso, I just have my reservations about him because of his saga. I´m likely to have to eat my words about him if he joins, I don´t think he would actually want to leave any time soon. He would also immediately galvanize the fans, the city, the team.
He has a lot of attributes, of the three you mention I reckon Enrique is the best one suited for us, he has proven himself twice now with different big clubs. I can´t say that for any other manager on the list and he wants the challenge of managing in England.
Maybe it´s the reason why Slot is so obsessed by him, Enrique would be the ideal manager for us. I imagine the league next season with all of those here in the premier league. It´s just a question of where they land. Somehow it is destined to see Alonso vs Kompany in the league, Enrique might take over a number of clubs, he can actually have his pick. Nagelsmann might join the league as well.
Alonso with Leverkusen is something that will not be repeated any time soon over there, Kompany might move but he could stay for a few years with that side in Germany. Bayern are so big in Germany, there is nothing like it really, cause in normal leagues there is a rivalry going on. I doubt we could find 5 german players that turned the club down in the last 50 years.

11th April 2026 at 1:34 am #243445Now I’m wondering about FSG again, I predicted a big window or them leaving. 450 million spent in one window and I’m still wondering when all our legends walk out.
Cause we all know this transition was needed but it could have been handled better.

11th April 2026 at 8:24 am #243450If Kompany wins the CL then maybe he thinks he’s won the lot and wants a new challenge? Bayern one of the best teams in Europe currently.
Enrique would probably be my choice just because I love how his teams play. Fast, short but incisive passing with players rotating all over the place. Would have been a joy to watch the other day if it wasn’t against the team I support!
Funny that Slot idolises PSG as we play nothing like them. Only thing we have in common is possesion, but what we do with the possesion is vastly different.
