      Adlab,

I have seen since yesterday you have been preaching Chelsea had no shot on target, would that have changed any thing had we got 100 shots on target and all of them got saved and went on to lose 1-0? The only stat that matters is the goals, City had 1 and we had zero.

Chelsea play as a team, and we had an off day as a team yesterday. We gave City too much time on the ball, and we got punished for that. It’s a lesson for Tuchel and the boys. And i hope such mistake won’t be repeated. City were better than us yesterday, but that won’to be measured on Chelsea’s strength so far. We have played Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs away and collected 7 points out of 9 and played 50 minutes with 10 men at Anfield.

It was always pound to happen that we may lose at some stage in the season. We lost to the Champions, then did our rivals take advantage?

Despite our tough matches, we are level on points with City and United, and a point behind the league leaders Liverpool.

City had been the better team throughout the game and had the better motivation than us. They were out on a revange mission. And credit to them for nicking this one. So far we have played 4 of the 5 top six rivals, and we have two wins, a draw and a defeat. I would have taken this if i was offered early.

Three of those four matches have been away. I have to give credit to Tuchel for this performances. Overall, i was happy with how we started the season. But i’m not happy with our performance of today. City outclassed us and fair play to them.

Next we need to regroup for the Juventus game.

It was always bound to happen that we had to lose one day, and there is no better opposition to do than City. Both Werner and Lukaku were poor up top. And Kante had a game to forget. We improved once we conceded the goal, and i was asking myself why didn’t we play like that before.

Alonso has so been very poor today. I think the loss of Reece James early on opened the door for Grealish as he had one v one with Christensen. Also Azpi playing as the right sided cb would have overlaped James and some chances created from there.

The positives are the performance of Loftus Cheek. He bossed the midfield in the little cameo he has played. Also Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic don’t work as a unit. I hope Loftus Cheek gets more game time.

Otherwise, City had the better motivation than us. They were out on a revange mission. And credit to the for nicking. Well, i said last night Tuchel likes to surprise us, and although it’s hardly a surprise, i wasn’t expecting him to drop Silva and Havertz especially Silva. The line up is: Mendy, Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger, Reece James, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Werner, Lukaku. That is a very good line up. And the formation is 3-5-2. Good luck to the boys.

Tuchel likes to surprise us every time. I won’t be surprised if he pulls a new rabbit out of the hat tomorrow and completely surprises us with different players than expected.

For once i would like to see Werner and Lukaku ip top, but i think we will likely see the the team that played in the second half against Spurs. That midfield is very strong. And the forward like has goals in them. Havertz scored against City in the biggest stage, and he has already scored against Liverpool this season. So he must have the confidence.i would understand why Tuchel may want him ahead of Werner. He has played good in the big teams. And he looks comfortable, more so he is our future talisman.

I’m worried for Chilwell, he seems to have lost the confidence, he needs a run of games to re-establish himself, but right now Alonso seems to have won this battle and it will impossible for Tuchel to drop him without a drop in form. Ziyech was our chief creative player once, but it seems he is also lacking confidence. Tuchel doesn’t trust him fully. And the injury to Mount opens the door for him to hsve some minutes tomorrow. But it’s up to him how he reacts.

Loftus Cheek has done excellent in mid week, Tuchel has praised hid performance in central midfield. If this boy can stay injury free he will be an asset to tue team. The futures of Sarr and Barkley are bleak, unless they improve from now and January.

The way Tuchel is handling things is very impressive.

Our back five will be the same as they were against Spurs. i will only consider Kepa for Mendy only. as for the midfield? i would pick Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic simply we need to get a foot in midfield. if we make the central space compact, then we will have a very good chance. 90% of City’s creativity goes through the centre.

I like the idea of playing Werner and Lukaku up top. that will be handy for any defence to contain. and it give either of them the space they require. on one hand the defenders will be warry of Lukaku’s physicality while on the other hand they will also be warry of Werner’s pace. but where does that leave for Kai Havertz who is the golden boy of Tuchel? anyway, i suspect Tuchel play Havertz rather than Werner alongside Lukaku.

This game thicked a few boxes for Chelsea.werner is off the mark, that boosts his confidence. Although the media was demonising him still, that goal will do a world of good for his confidence.

There is this pattern that teams are adopting making compact in midifeld with 3 to 4 players against our midfield pivot. So playing 3-5-2 will compensate that. And by recalling Kante, and playing Werner next to Lukaku will be handful for the City defence without losing our solidity in midfield. The back five will be the same. Mendy for Kepa will be the other change.

One of the Reasons why CHO is complaining at Chelsea is lack of game time, as he is behind Pulisic, Werner, Havertz, Mount in the 2 positions behind Lukaku. How will his situation change if he goes to Liveepool and is playing behind Salah, Mane, Ferminho and Jota? At least at Chelsea he has friends, familiar environment and good salary which he won’t have at Liverpool. The only thing that can tempt him is playing time, and at the moment i can’t see him achieving that at Liverpool. The guy is only 20 but has already won the Europa league amd Champions league. He only needs enough game time to develop further

Well, delighted with the result. it has been an even first half with neither team creating clear cut chances, although, Spurs edged be controlling the midfield battle. in the second half, Chelsea was the better team and deserved the points on the basis of our second-half performance. we could have scored more than 3 had we been clinical enough.

Next week could be our biggest game of the season. I hope we don’t lose that game. it will be interesting to see who Tuchel goes for. will he play 2 up top and use Werner’s pace to hit City on the break? or will he go toe to toe with City? I think the former makes sense, going toe to toe with City carries its risks.

I have to say, Silva surprised me today, his performance has been unreal. and for him to score and keep a clean sheet against the division’s deadliest duo in Kane and Son shows the level he is playing at currently. Jorginho has also highlighted his importance to our team. Even Alonso is playing a level above his usual displays. and I also have to give credit to Kepa, I was feeling jitters when I saw him in our lineup. but fair enough he rose to the occasion.

The injury to Mount is a bit worrying given he is important to our set-up. but at least that is one area that we have plenty of options. next week midfield trio of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic is the best for me.

The thought of seeing Kepa in our goal is giving me jitters, to be honest. our defence and midfield are all over the place. we need to regain control in midfield. Kante is needed as soon as possible. I also feel we are outnumbered in that department. revert 3-5-2 and bring Mount in midfield to even things.

I think Tuchel is having a few dilemas in certain areas of the pitch. Key among them is, does he recall Reece James after suspension? Or does he play Azpi, then put Christensen as the RCB and retain Silva at the centre? I think the former will be good. Keep Reece James at RWB and use Azpi as the RCB and keep Christensen at the heart of our defence. That back five is our best combination.

Does he recall Kante and drop Kovacic who is in the form of his life? Or does he keep Kante on the bench and stick with Kovacic because of his form of late and the fact that Kante is returning from injury? I think the later is the best option. Keep Kante as an insurance should we need him. And continue playing Kovacic istead.

Does he play Havertz in one of the No10s behind Lukaku or does he change game and play Ziyech due to the fact that Spurs will sit deep and try to hit us on the break, and Ziyech’s long cross field passes could crate a route? I personally think, he should stick with Kai Havertz as he is a goal threat.

Alonso vs Chilwell is an easy decision stick with Alonso for now because of his form. Rudiger, Mendy, Lukaku, Jorginho and Mount are guaranteed starters.

I hope Christensen is fit and ready to play tonight as we may need him against Spurs. He has been our best CB this season. I suspect Tuchel will give Chilwell a start tomorrow and would see how he reacts. But anyway, i would go with Alonso as he likes to face against Spurs. Tuchel said Kante would be ready against Spurs. So him and Jorginho will start with Kovacic coming on. I also expect Mount and Werner to be back. Resting Rudiger is very important also.

I think playing Saul and Kovacic doesn’t work in any way. Saul has to play with eitherJorginho or Kante. Because Jorginho would have given him advice and direction, while Kante would have offered help and protection. Kovacic didn’t offer him that. They are two similar players.

That is 3 goals in 3 games for Werner in Germany. I hope he carries his good form to club level and starts scoring goals. I have observed that Werner is more comfortable playing the system that this new German coach is playing.

Also Havertz has played and had an assist to his name, Rudiger has also scored, it had been a succesfull international break for Chelsea except the Lukaku and Kante injury problems. And luckily we can afford them the time to rest and heal, and we have Kovacic and Werner to play.

The only problem for Drinkwater was that he made the wrong move at the wrobg time. There were several factors that contributed to his footballing demise.
                                    1. He went to Chelsea as a last gasp option as oppossed to a signing that the coach wanted.

                                    2. The club and the manager were in disagreement over the signings of that summer, at the same time Conte wasn’t happy with the depature of Matic.

                                    3. He was directly competing with Fabregas, and any coach would pick Fabregas over Drinkwater as the other slot was reserved for Kante.

                                    4. He was injured by the time he made that move, the one thing that will count against a player is moving to a new club while injured. Drinkwater has to wait 2 more months to make his debut, and by that time the other midfielders were already ahead of him in fitness and match sharpness. As he didn’t even had a preseason.

5.His motivation is very low. For you to play in a competitve team like Chelsea, you need to be highly motivated to win a spot, but this guy looks disinterested.

When you look at all of those factors, and his conduct of late where he was involved a training ground clash twice, then you will understand why all of the four cosches that Chelsea had while he is at the club are reluctant to play him and are shipping him away on loan.

In my opinion, if Lukaku isn’t 100% fit, it would rest him for our game against Villa, because after that we have two important games one away from to our fiercest rivals, and another at home to the Champions. so we may need Lukaku’s presence for those two games more than any other thing. as for our game on Saturday, we have enough quality in our team already to compete with Villa. We have Werner who despite not getting enough game time has scored two in two for his country this week. and he is capable of filling that void.

My understanding was that Saul wanted to play in central midfield as no 8 as opposed to holding no 6 role. and that is where Tuchel wants to use him. there are times when Chelsea will need to use 3-5-2 / 3-5-1-1 with three midfielders to make it tough for teams to attack from central. and I won’t be surprised to see a trio of Saul, Jorginho and Kante in the same midfield. Kovacic is Tuchel’s midfield lynchpin and the fact that Tuchel pushed to sign Saul suggests he will feature, and we all know what Kante contributes, and Jorginho is in the form of his life. central midfield and the two attacking midfield positions is where we have our strongest players. I guess it’s a nice problem to have for Tuchel.

From now and Until January, Marina has three crucial tasks to do:
                                          1. tie Rudiger, Christensen and Jorginho to a new long term contract.
                                          2. Start contract extension with Alonso, Kante, Chalobah, Azpi and even Kovacic.
                                          3. Find a new cheaper CB alternative to Kunde if by January Sevilla didn’t drop their asking price.

I guess the Tuchel knows better than someone who has never managed a club or who doesn’t understand the wisdom behind keeping large squad to compete on four fronts.
