Re the CHO to Liverpool story on TT more click bait than anything else imo I can’t see Chelsea being prepared to sell one of their brightest young players to a title rival especially as Chelsea even refused a loan move to Dortmund in the Summer or CHO moving this season other than with something like a loan move if he’s still not getting game time by January with a move to someone like Dortmund.

Also Liverpool with their front 3 plus Jota would give CHO no more chances to play than Chelsea are currently.

CHO will play tonight and it’s up to him to seize his chance and prove he’s worth a starting place and then come up with some consistent performances.

All Villa had to do was convert one more of at least half a dozen fairly clear cut chances to beat us. We were fortunate. What was it, 9 changes to the weekend side? Risky business whatever the quality of the incoming players at this level as Manchester United found out this evening. Fortunate to get through in my opinion. Penalties it was. Not surprised Timo was not asked to take one. Too much pressure right now for him. Pleased he got that long elusive goal. Pity he didn’t convert that opportunity a few minutes later. That would have been ideal. Southampton at home next round.

10 changes to Sundays starting eleven with only Kepa retained is always likely to result in a lack of rythm, overall I think we did ok and the stats seem to bear that out.

Good to see Timo get off the mark. Southampton at home up next you can’t ask for anything more than a home tie.🀞

Saw the game nine, deserved to go to pens and then it’s 50/50 really.

We played 532, with Ruben as anchor man believe it or not and saul and kante either side. Thought Ruben did OK ran with the ball well and was pretty expansive with his passing.

Lucky, either side could have won it prior to the penalties still think we did ok given 10 changes I think that might change slightly as we progress?

I fancied us in the penalty shoot out given Kepa in goal and having come through the Super Cup too. Cheers 9’s

Yeah I agree nine, I think for coaches and fans of the top clubs this cup is only important when you get to semi finals at least. Until then it’s about minutes for fringe players and progression is not super important. Considering the number of changes we did OK.

Was surprised with sarr who is quicker and better on ball than I thought and chalobah had good game again some very good challenges.

Werner scoring too was a big bonus hopefully he can gain a little confidence from it.

This game thicked a few boxes for Chelsea.werner is off the mark, that boosts his confidence. Although the media was demonising him still, that goal will do a world of good for his confidence.

There is this pattern that teams are adopting making compact in midifeld with 3 to 4 players against our midfield pivot. So playing 3-5-2 will compensate that. And by recalling Kante, and playing Werner next to Lukaku will be handful for the City defence without losing our solidity in midfield. The back five will be the same. Mendy for Kepa will be the other change.

Our back five will be the same as they were against Spurs. i will only consider Kepa for Mendy only. as for the midfield? i would pick Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic simply we need to get a foot in midfield. if we make the central space compact, then we will have a very good chance. 90% of City’s creativity goes through the centre.

I like the idea of playing Werner and Lukaku up top. that will be handy for any defence to contain. and it give either of them the space they require. on one hand the defenders will be warry of Lukaku’s physicality while on the other hand they will also be warry of Werner’s pace. but where does that leave for Kai Havertz who is the golden boy of Tuchel? anyway, i suspect Tuchel play Havertz rather than Werner alongside Lukaku.

I prefer Werner to come on later, I also prefer 2 in the middle but maybe for this game 3 will work better because that’s also City’s strength.

Tuchel likes to surprise us every time. I won’t be surprised if he pulls a new rabbit out of the hat tomorrow and completely surprises us with different players than expected.

For once i would like to see Werner and Lukaku ip top, but i think we will likely see the the team that played in the second half against Spurs. That midfield is very strong. And the forward like has goals in them. Havertz scored against City in the biggest stage, and he has already scored against Liverpool this season. So he must have the confidence.i would understand why Tuchel may want him ahead of Werner. He has played good in the big teams. And he looks comfortable, more so he is our future talisman.

I’m worried for Chilwell, he seems to have lost the confidence, he needs a run of games to re-establish himself, but right now Alonso seems to have won this battle and it will impossible for Tuchel to drop him without a drop in form. Ziyech was our chief creative player once, but it seems he is also lacking confidence. Tuchel doesn’t trust him fully. And the injury to Mount opens the door for him to hsve some minutes tomorrow. But it’s up to him how he reacts.

Loftus Cheek has done excellent in mid week, Tuchel has praised hid performance in central midfield. If this boy can stay injury free he will be an asset to tue team. The futures of Sarr and Barkley are bleak, unless they improve from now and January.

The way Tuchel is handling things is very impressive.

Well, i said last night Tuchel likes to surprise us, and although it’s hardly a surprise, i wasn’t expecting him to drop Silva and Havertz especially Silva. The line up is: Mendy, Azpi, Christensen, Rudiger, Reece James, Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso, Werner, Lukaku. That is a very good line up. And the formation is 3-5-2. Good luck to the boys.

Pathetic, the last 3 games vs City all been competitive and ultimately won by Chelsea but the way we set up today you would swear we lost 3 in a row to them!

Can always accept losing to a team as fine as city but that was an awful way to approach this game at home.

Am surprised Lucky, especially as you say given your recent record against them. It’s like you gave them too much respect. You defended generally well but went too deep and gave yourself no outlets up top whatsoever. And you can’t sustain that for 90 mins. Surprising from Tuchel that.

It was always bound to happen that we had to lose one day, and there is no better opposition to do than City. Both Werner and Lukaku were poor up top. And Kante had a game to forget. We improved once we conceded the goal, and i was asking myself why didn’t we play like that before.

Alonso has so been very poor today. I think the loss of Reece James early on opened the door for Grealish as he had one v one with Christensen. Also Azpi playing as the right sided cb would have overlaped James and some chances created from there.

The positives are the performance of Loftus Cheek. He bossed the midfield in the little cameo he has played. Also Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic don’t work as a unit. I hope Loftus Cheek gets more game time.

Otherwise, City had the better motivation than us. They were out on a revange mission. And credit to the for nicking. So far we have played 4 of the 5 top six rivals, and we have two wins, a draw and a defeat. I would have taken this if i was offered early. Three of those four matches have been away. I have to give credit to Tuchel for this performances.

Next we need to regroup for the Juventus game.

Young blue….it is not about revenge. City have been below their standard of passing and teamwork recently despite the big wins. Pep got them back focusing on the job in front of them to day. He needs to keep them focused, certainly for the next couple of games. There will be “ups and downs” for both of us before the season ends, that’s for sure

Agree YB City were well up for this game and looked to be back to their best they certainly didn’t want to lose 4 straight games inc a CL Final to Chelsea.

Pep has stated this week that City will have to buy a striker to replace Aguero difficult to see that happening before the Summer and a striker is the only missing piece in the City jigsaw currently they would have been uncatchable imo had they got Kane they will still take some catching this season and I’m not sure any of the chasing pack will be up to it.
