I thought we were quite comfortable by the end. Definitely a game where decisions went both way. The first one being before the game in that Spurs were playing at their second home!

21st April 2018 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Tottenham Hotspur V Manchester United – FA CUP Semi Final 17:15 BBC #20754Silly from Valencia but there’s no way that’s a red for me. Everyone on the BBC panel seems to think a yellow was sufficient too. Eriksen the danger man so far. I’d like to see Herrera staying a bit closer to him to keep him quiet. Lovely cross to Alli for the first. Great strength from Pogba to brush off Dembele for the second.

Great to hear your thoughts Mick. The more fans from outside the PL the merrier so feel free to spread the word! No ruffled feathers thus far. Keep the debate topics coming as far as I’m concerned!

Getting beyond a joke now these late night rants from nowhere. I don’t know how many more last chances I can give him.

What does any of that mean? 2nd,3rd or 4th. What’s the difference? They’re all positions of failure. Finishing 2nd should never be celebrated IMO

Hightown, apologies, edited my post now. I meant to write that I agree that it hasn’t been one of Aguero’s best seasons! I meant Firmino was a good shout

Nil, neither Sheffield Wednesday or Leeds are in the Premier League. How on earth would they get players in a PL team of the season? Out of interest, who has impressed you from either of those teams this season?
Good shout on Firmino Hightown. Agree, he’s a great striker, Aguero, but I wouldn’t say it’s been one of his best seasons.

Mick, as much as it seems to get to you you that we’re pretty shit at the moment, I honestly am not too concerned. There are 18 worse sides than us in the league at the moment. 1 is better.
Still, in my time as a Utd fan I’ve seen levels of success and a number of trophies that 99% of fans will never see. If we never win another trophy, that is just football.
You’re way more bothered about us only being second best than I will ever be. So we don’t play the prettiest football in the league? Ideal? No. Big deal? No. I’d much rather be where we are than the likes of Arsenal who are not even in the CL running any more, never mind the title race. Things can always be worse and being second is only ever a disaster when previous success deems it to be. When second is a huge achievement rather than a disastrous season, is when I’ll worry!
Spine this squad:
De Gea
Bailly Smalling
Pogba McTominay/Matic
LukakuNext season, leave that with me. Need to have a think of realistic targets!

To stress, I’m not just picking out random selective games where his teams have underperformed. I’m pointing at all the career defining games his teams have, for me, underperformed in. I’m not even mentioning the struggles against the lower league sides in the cups this season as I honestly think he just wasn’t bothered about those games. He seems quite happy to sacrifice Cup games for league games at times

Definitely missed my point Chucky! I’m saying that when faced with the biggest defining games of his career, Poch has fallen short for me. Now, that’s not to say he won’t massively improve there and prove me wrong but that’s my opinion so far. I’ll add the cup final to Chelsea where Spurs didn’t show up. My point is that those kind of games are where the pressure is on. That kind of pressure exists in every single game when you’re given the amount of money a club like Utd can spend. Like it or not, those kind of games ARE what define a manager’s career. Mourinho, like him or loathe him has a very good record in finals and big games.

BTW all the above on Poch is just my opinion. He’s clearly doing a very good job at Spurs!

Hmm well if they’re the choices, I’ll pass on Mourinho leaving thanks! Benitez to Utd? You can’t know much about football rivalries to even suggest that. Pochettino is not leaving Spurs and I’m not convinced he’d be the right man for Utd anyway. In the big games, he’s often failed to deliver. CL second leg this season, big game at Chelsea when chasing Leicester for the league, this weekend just gone against City. He’ll have huge games where he’s expected to win every single week at Utd. I’m not convinced he’s able to work under that kind of pressure. The young British manager with promise? Done that already with Moyes. No thanks.
Spine of next year’s team? Am I going on what we have or including the players I hope we sign?

Brian, to be fair, I probably didn’t word it very well. My point was that both those clubs can afford for a £50/£60 mil player to not work out, whereas very few other clubs can. City were reportedly after Mahrez at around that price to cover for the injured Sane. There’s no way he would start for City when all are fit. City can do that. So can Utd. Most clubs can’t. If Mahrez wouldn’t have worked, similarly if Sanchez doesn’t work at Utd, we’re both in a position to move them on for whatever we can get and buy again.
Just out of interest Mick, I’m curious to hear who you think Utd should get in if you think Mourinho’s days are numbered? It’s a question I’ve asked numerous times and yet to hear a good answer

17th April 2018 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Is there a better all round player in the Premiership? #20541He’s having a great season and seems a perfect fit for this Liverpool side. Is he likely to start for Brazil in the summer or is he behind Jesus in the pecking order?

But I completely agree that Klopp has bought well. Where the likes of City and Utd have an advantage is that they can risk buying players for £50/£60mil and not being too affected financially if they don’t work out. Liverpool don’t have that luxury, but then nor do most clubs. Utd have bought terribly since Sir Alex retired.
