I don’t think he will change his tactics, but I think he can (will) play a higher back line now due to having players fit and new signings.

Martinez back is huge for us. Yoro will probably start, and if we get another CB then he will rotate, but that will mean Maguire is benched and will be second backup is we sign another CB. We will then have more pace which will mean a higher line and less space in between.

Add in Ugarte, should he sign, and there will be more pace on the holding role too.

Some of our issues were lack of press, which is laziness in the players out wide, especially Rashford. Hopefully that will be addressed one way or the other as well. Might even see Mount in the right, who can cross far better than anyone else who played there last season.

Plenty of stuff to solve, but hopefully a couple more players in will go a long way. Best case scenario will see lots of fringe players out and a better squad brought in as a result. Worst case scenario is that players sit on big contracts until they run out. Like martial.

I would sell McT tomorrow Sean. He does score a few (or at least he has done for one season), but goes missing far too often and can’t hold a position. It could well be one out one in for us now so McT for Ugarte would be great for us.

I saw a bit of Onana in the Euros and I thought he did really well, much better on the ball then I initially thought.

Don’t know much about Zirkzee but Yoro looks a very good signing. Good to get some players in early. Need a midfielder and then can start to fill the gaps in squad depth.

Need to move a few on now too, looks like we may need to sell before we can buy though.

Spain were not only the best team on the night but the best in the tournament. We had a decent chance to win but was too negative and Southgate insisted on picking players out of form. To set up to hit on the counter and only have Saka who can do that with pace is laughable.

We need to learn from some of the big teams, Spain had Olmo on the bench up until Pedri was injured, we tried to shoehorn both Foden and Bellingham in to the side. And neither flourished as a result. Not convinced that it’s wise to change formation mid tournament either, and the lack of a left back is shocking. Spain went with someone way down the pecking order at left back, but he offered them something all through the tournament and will be in the team of the tournament no doubt.

You can go on for hours about this England team, Southgate isn’t good enough but then there is no one who you can say looks a natural successor. Maybe Eddie Howe is worth a punt?

I wonder if Southgate has it in him to drop Tripper though, he seems a very loyal manager. Shaw certainly gives the team more of a treat down the left.

Very lucky with the penalty, be fuming it that went the other way, but we have been the better team by far this first half. Need a goal whilst on top.

Think the refs have been, on the main part, really good. VAR has been used so much better too.

But strange in the Austria v Turkey match that the ref would not allow the Austria goalie to stand in front of the Turkish goalie at the end at a corner. Good to see the players just got on with it though.

The team will click at some point, and if they win well today he can say I told you so, but it’s a massive gamble to keep picking those players when they don’t perform and you have a squad where others have done better from the bench.

It’s to cheat the PSR rules, Sean.

If they value their LB at £10m they can do a deal for £20m (or in this case £34m) and buy a zero valued player off of the buying club for £10m therefore the total cost is still £10m but both clubs can report huge profits for PSR calculations. That’s why those teams are all transferring unheard of players to the other clubs at highly inflated prices.

Pure profit on homegrown players all accrued in the one year in PSR calculations. PL will probably try and clampdown on it but I assume they made the mistake of expecting clubs to act with dignity.

Apparently the PL have written to clubs saying they can revalue players fees if they feel they have been inflated to bypass these rules. That will be interesting considering what City are currently doing via the courts, as in there could be another lengthy court battle should the PL decide a youth player no one has heard of who has never played for Villa not being worth £19m to Chelsea.

He does seem a bit weak. Bellingham and Foden are both better at 10, but he will play Foden on the wing where he has a couple of ineffective games and then ask them to swap positions every so often in the third match so one is always ineffective. I thought Foden would do well on the left, but he hasn’t done so and Southgate should have given someone else a chance.

He decided to take 6 wingers and no fit left backs, and this is in an expanded squad.
