Ed, it was just that Man Utd seemed to keep avoiding ever appointing Jose, basically alluding to him being the wrong fit I think, until it looked the last resort. Also I seem to remember an early press conference with Jose at Utd where he seemed to suggest he’d be prepared to play more attacking football at the club what with the culture of the club. Then there were the questions about whether he’d give the young players a chance. So it was from ideal. But obviously certain transfers weren’t suited or didn’t fulfil expectations.

This video is quite interesting of an interview with Jose at Man Utd, particularly the first few minutes and the following quote in it:

“I won so many matches in my career and won so many titles in my career, the other way around, being safe, being under control, waiting for the mistake, I bite you, goodbye. And now we have to kill matches to have the complete pleasure of playing well, playing in a certain way…”

Fair points Mikus. Re the young players, yes I felt he did ok there in terms of bringing players through, McTominay a great example. But, at times, it did feel a little forced, as though he was trying to be what Utd wanted in a coach rather than being his usual self.

Spurs and Mourinho were always a questionable mix and then throw Levy into the equation and the risk became even more questionable.

The decline at Spurs started a long time before Jose took over it started under Pochetinno who regularly demonstrated his frustration with Levy’s reluctance to strengthen the squad and the team and the team was in free fall at the end of Pochetinno’s tenure it needed major surgery not sticking plaster remedies and a relience on the Academy which are not Jose’s strengths.

You can’t build great new Stadiums if you don’t have the quality of team to play in them and the monies to refresh the team when needed.

Spurs are now a difficult watch and Mourinho cuts a frustrated figure which is never his best look because he can’t see a way forward without major investment and that’s not possible currently and he hits out at all insundry in his press conferences.

Anyone who takes over from Jose will find it difficult to get Spurs much higher than 6th place whilst flirting with 4th place and the odd domestic Cup run with the players he inherits and Kane knows he is frittering away his career at Spurs if he wants to win trophies so you wonder how long that will go on now.

The way forward is probably to change the Manager sell Kane and use all of that money plus some to try and reshape the team under a new Manager who reflects the way Spurs fans want their team to play. Under the circumstances that was never likely to be Mourinho.

This will boil down to whether Levy wants Jose as his manager more than he wants a full stadium , a big season ticket waiting list and the likes of Kane, Son on the pitch.
As I didn’t take up the offer of a season ticket two years ago I am in the 30,000’s on the waiting list and presumed that was where I’d stay. I had an email last week asking if I would be interested in having a 2021/2 season ticket, I think that says it all.

All very good points Nine. Spurs were very poor under Poch ever since that CL final so it’s possibly a bit unfair to lay all the blame at Jose’s door. I’m not sure any of Allegri, Rodgers or the like would want that job, to be honest. I do wonder if Howe is delaying joining Celtic in the hope he is in with a shout for that job. Really can’t see him doing much better though really.

As for Kane, it’s looking like he’s probably had enough there but who could afford him? Considering Spurs’ financial position, he’d cost a stupid fee, probably Β£150mil+. If you had that kind of money to spend on a striker, you’d go and get Haaland who has age on his side.

5/6 Clubs looking for a top striker Ed and there’s only one of Haaland.😊

If Kane goes as always it will be impossible to negotiate with Levy who will want absolutely silly money for Kane and Levy won’t want to sell him to a PL Club either.

Yeah a fair point Nine. If both were available, there would obviously be the wages to consider and whether they would come or not.

Shiney, it’s quite possible that if the stadium had had fans and Spurs were still performing this way, Jose would maybe be gone by now what with the potential discontent around the stadium. The match going fans can still wield a significant influence. It’s what hastened Hodgson’s departure at Liverpool. Not that that would completely solve all your problems, but as we’ve all said, he was never really the right fit to start with.

Lucky…what I was trying to say, he has to work with what he has got and if the squad is poor ten the manager has to find ways to improve them. Some investment is required but that can be said pre Jose. I am not defending Jose so much and he is not a favourite of mine but I just do not like the thought of players managing a manager and club There are clubs with less than Spurs have but doing a better job with there resources. In reality, there is know solution to this other than a change of manager which is always the case on the Merry-go-round

“Tottenham chief Daniel Levy ‘has already decided’ Jose Mourinho fate for next season
Tottenham’s hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a major blow as they were beaten 3-1 by Manchester United in north London.

Daniel Levy has already reportedly decided that he will have to stick by Jose Mourinho next season because it will cost too much to sack him. The Portuguese is under significant pressure at Spurs just over 18 months after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the hot-seat in November 2019. ” Daily Express 11/04 ???

Don’t worry shiney mate you’re still well above us! Tho I do hope Maureen stays … tho I can’t see Kane staying much longer the squad is now to far away in terms of needing a refresh and by the time it was he will be way past his best
He should move for sake of his career and you need the funds
Personally I wouldn’t have extended aubas contract and cashed in on him
We are both so far away it’s criminal

27, The Express are desperate to sell Kane, Son et al , on a Monday it’s off to Utd, Tuesday Barca , Wednesday City or RM and so it goes on , basically they don’t like Spurs so make up bullshit daily, lazy journalism at best.
As i said yesterday Levy has a big call to make , it’s clear the players are not happy with the way they are told to play, have a look for Son’s post match interview, our manager has done that …………….

You’re right about Levy having a big decision to make. Harry Kane too times running out for him.

Do you think Spurs should cash in or not on Kane to help rebuild the team and that from Kane’s perspective do you think he needs a new challenge?

Times running out for Kane to win trophies it’s getting close to now or never for him.

Brian I do agree with that, at least in that once a manager agrees a job he can’t then bemoan the lack of quality publicly, he should just concentrate on getting the best out of them. Maybe throwing them under the bus every time he fails to park it properly is not the best way of getting the best out of his squad

Everton dropping points tonight. West Ham still look pretty good, but they’ve also conceded goals in games too.

I’d still be made up for the Irons if they made Top 4 – definitely look good for 5th.

I wonder whether Leicester will fade.

Still hard to call above all.

999 If Harry wants a move and asks for one ,as much as I’d be gutted he should be allowed to go he’s been an amazing player for Spurs and deserves his chance at silverware. On a different note I can’t see Levy selling to another PL club, RM, Barca, Bayern would be my guess but he would want cash up front which may mean he won’t get the move he deserves.

I think that’s a good summary Shiney I also think Levy will demand silly money for Kane possibly even more than Β£150m for a player who will be 28 before the start of next season and is quite injury prone too.

That’s the thing Nine. His worth to Spurs is way more than I think any club would be prepared to pay, but what happens if he comes out and says he wants to move? Surely, a compromise would have to be found? I know he signed a big new contract and loyalty should count for something but they’d not want him to stay if he’s unhappy. Like Shiney, I think that compromise might well be that Levy would desperately seek a foreign buyer, where I imagine he’d have to lower his demands somewhat.
