I just want this game done so that I can try and attempt to delete the 25/26 season from my mind completely.
Our visitors for this 38th and final game are Brentford who will be ‘OK’ with finishing in the top half despite pushing for 5th at one stage. Too many draws (8) and defeats (5) this calendar after a solid start to 2026 with 3 straight wins.
100% record against this lot at home in the PL, won 4 and conceded 0. Different kettle of fish away from home of course including the 3-2 defeat at Gtech Community Stadium back in October. That was our fourth straight league defeat. We made amends by beating Villa and Madrid the next two games, but the wheels quickly fell off again getting pummeled by City, Forest and PSV.
Last season we did the double over them winning two nil in both games (Nunez 2, only scored in one game following, Diaz, Mo).
There is some wild permutation that could see Brentford force a play-off game for fifth but I’ve no energy to work all that shit out. I was officially done with this season following that truly God awful 2-1 defeat at Wolves.
Who will start? Don’t care really and no clue who’s fit as I couldn’t be arsed checking.
Ali, Gomez, Konate, VVD, Robbo, Grav, Mac, Szobo, Gakpo, Wirtz and Mo is my guess. Fuck knows.
We should beat Brentford (one away win in six) and they haven’t won at Anfield in nearly 90 years so…expect a Kelleher blinder and issues dealing with Thiago, Outtara and Damsgaard.
Away win.
Thanks Mo and Thanks Robbo.

22nd May 2026 at 9:29 am #246706Let’s win this game and put an end to an absolutely disastrous season.
Many of our highly overpaid players, including Mo Salah (only 12 goals), have seriously let the club down this season, with sub-par performances and avoidable errors that have cost us several points.
These underperforming players need to have a long, hard look at themselves and realise that they are playing for the Mighty Liverpool FC.
Time to properly rebuild our team this summer, and hopefully our new signings will ignite intense competition to make the whole team get their act together next season.
Now, show it on the pitch here with a resounding win.
Marmadashvilli
Frimpong KonatΓ© Van Dijk Robbo
Gravenberch Szoboszlai
Salah Wirtz Gakpo
IsakOr Rio for Isak, if Isak is not ready to start*

23rd May 2026 at 8:32 am #246792For years Utd managed to dominate as a result of a bunch of young players who cost nothing and became top class plus the big ticket players filling in the gap.
Salah and Robbo are closest we’ve come to that (ignoring homegrown Trent). Without Robbo and Salah overperforming, i very much doubt we could have splashed all the Coutinho cash on Allison and VVD. Without those two I suspect the last decade would have had a very different feel.
Let’s hope we strike oil again in the next few years. Thanks lads, its been a blast!

23rd May 2026 at 6:09 pm #246828My team for Brentford, not necessarily the team that will startβ¦.
Allison
Gomez, Konate, VVd, Robbo
Grav, Szobo
Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo
IsakThere could be 8/9 players in the match day squad who could be leaving.
And I mean genuinely realistically leavingβ¦β¦thatβs mad! This game isnβt a dead rubber.
CL qualification isnt a foregone conclusion.
We need a result here._____________________________

23rd May 2026 at 11:38 pm #246834I got more hope in Henderson scoring a own goal to make sure we qualify than in our players.

24th May 2026 at 8:46 am #246838Thats it ginger. Like is konate contract up in june?
Noise about jones leaving. Mo and robbo going.
Even before anyone leaves we need a right back, a 6 which might not come with slot staying , two wide forwards
It foesnt matter who we bring in wth this manager. Really doesnt. Going to only end one way and an absolutely ridiculous decision that will set us back y

24th May 2026 at 9:26 am #246840And if Ali leaves add a goalie to that Sean as Marma isn’t good enough. Said at the time his signing made no sense.
I posted a few weeks ago asking why do many are leaving, wonder if anything with Slot staying or how the club is being run by those above him? It’s an absolute mess currently.
We desperately need a DM yet Slot doesn’t play with one. Fine then make us solid by buying at least one inverting to CB full back. No buy an adventurous LB and a wing back who played in a back 3 formation. And then tell everyone to just get forward and leave massive holes between the CBs and midfield.
We are linked with the likes of Wharton, Diomande etc but just one of those will likely be a near 100m outlay. With so many holes to plug I can see us buying cheaper less quality players.
With Slot (possibly) staying and the two mupperts still pulling the string the future is very bleak I’m afraid. Watch for mid table and maybe a quarter final next season.
Anyway back to the game. Don’t really care. Doubt we’ll lose our CL spot. Hope the crowd just sings Salah and Robertson songs the whole time and let the management know their feelings.
Actually do care, hope we win and Villa lose so Bournemouth get a CL spot.

24th May 2026 at 11:53 am #246852Not been on here posting for a while as it’s all got a bit too depressing and negative over the last couple of months in particular. Been getting my fill via an Anfield Tickets syndicate Whatsapp Group that is generally a bit lighter in mood. However, as we thankfully draw the curtains on this awful season, I guess we just have to turn the page and look forward towards 26/27 and try and muster some optimism that something will improve as regards management / team / style of play and ultimately results. How that will be achieved is currently anybody’s guess. It makes it even harder to plan for 26/27 when 3 of our bright, young prospects (Bradley, Leoni and Hugo) won’t be returning until well into the Autumn – although maybe Leoni will.
I see today as really marking the end of an era of that Liverpool team that has given us so much joy over the last 10 years or so and, as Ginger has pointed out, the potential exodus is nowhere near limited to the 2 club legends that are departing. That said, we don’t want to turn into another Chelsea and over-churn the squad too much each year. It would be good if Gakpo could somehow impress at the World Cup and boost his transfer value a bit because, personally, I never want to see him in a Liverpool shirt again – an absolute car-crash of a season, for me.
Not too fussed who plays today (apart from Mo and Robbo of course) as we’ll fall over the line for CL qualification whatever, but wouldn’t it be lovely to see Isak and Flo finally combine and give us some hope for what they can potentially do next season – albeit 37 games too late.

24th May 2026 at 12:52 pm #246857Bingo>> You may be correct re: Gakpo, but my understanding is that he’s a regular in the Dutch squad and nothing I’ve seen that would suggest that he’s going to be omitted this time. Whatever, we’ll find out tomorrow with their final squad announcement.

24th May 2026 at 1:07 pm #246858Rob, feel exactly the same re the first two lines of your opening post. I watched the second half of the Play Off Final yesterday, but other than that I just can’t get that excited about football and Liverpool. Title is also done, so dead rubber games.
Would love for something bizzare to happen to allow Bournemouth into the Champions League.
I don’t feel too revved up with the goodbyes because of what lies ahead for us in the summer. We have gone completely the other way and a few signings here and there won’t fix us. Marma for one I am not confident as somebody who should be a World Class Shot-stopper.
Unless Slot goes and we get a new good guy in, we’re set backwards, bigtime, worryingly.

24th May 2026 at 1:39 pm #246859I might be wrong as well, I just read some reports yesterday and he was nowhere to be seen. I would not take him to the world cup, a goal every 390 minutes is not good enough.

24th May 2026 at 2:49 pm #246861Alisson, Jones, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Ngumoha, Gakpo.
Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Kerkez, Wirtz, Isak, Chiesa, Frimpong, Nyoni.
Stronger bench. Good to see Ali and Endo back and Frimpong on the bench where he needs to be.
Away win.
