That’s about the gist of it Nine. Anyone would think we’d gone down by the fuss. I’m very happy with the progress we’ve made. People point to those of our fans who aren’t happy with our style of play and I completely get that. It’s because our fans have been spoilt beyond belief for a quarter of a century and expect nothing less than for that to continue.

We’ve got very good depth but our first XI lacks real star quality. Sanchez has been poor since he came in but I think he’ll get better. Lukaku is decent. Pogba is inconsistent. Herrera decent. Rashford very young and inconsistent. Martial I don’t think is the player he looked like when he first burst onto the scene. Matic is decent. Behind them, Valencia is ok. Bailly will hopefully get back in the side as I like him. The rest, DDG aside, should be squad players at best

They did but that was a poor Utd side, the one that won the league in his last season. Ddg aside, you’re talking players like Young, Valencia, Jones and Smalling. Hardly the catalysts of that last league winning side!

20th May 2018 at 6:56 pm in reply to: *The FA Cup Final 2018* Chelsea V Manchester United – Sat 19th May 17:15 #21950Chucky, I’ve no problem admitting you outplayed us in the league game at Wembley. Spurs were very good in that game. But the point stands that when it came to a crunch knock out game, your star players disappeared in the cup.
If you don’t buy the average squad card us Yooutd boys keep playing, I’ll ask again. How many of our players would you swap for your own first team players? Assuming it’s not many, you’re indirectly agreeing with me that ours isn’t a great squad.
Yes we have players on stupid amounts of money. Look at Spurs wages though compared to Newport County and Rochdale. Way bigger difference there than between Utd and the other top 6 sides! Yet Spurs couldn’t put them away.

20th May 2018 at 5:38 pm in reply to: *The FA Cup Final 2018* Chelsea V Manchester United – Sat 19th May 17:15 #21940Sean, I’m not at all saying we shouldn’t be competing with City. I’m saying we shouldn’t be expected to be finishing above them, which is what you’re suggesting by saying 2nd isn’t good enough. The point stands with Liverpool too. Liverpool shouldn’t EXPECT to finish above the likes of City and Utd (and they didn’t anyway!) but Liverpool should be taking more than 10 points from 10 games against the other top 6 sides.
Chucky, the fact he’s spent a lot of money is a separate point. He hasn’t spent well at all IMO but in terms of getting a lot out of an average squad, I think he’s done a good job. Tell me, how many of our players would be guaranteed a start for your Spuds? Not many I’m guessing. Still we made Spurs look very ordinary in the semi and never looked like finishing below Spurs at any point.

20th May 2018 at 4:10 pm in reply to: *The FA Cup Final 2018* Chelsea V Manchester United – Sat 19th May 17:15 #21929Sean, you say second isn’t good enough for Utd but I’m not sure I agree with that. I’m not saying I’m content with second place but bearing in mind our positions since Fergie retired, it’s a massive sign of progress. Plus, the only team to finish above us have spent shed loads more than us so I’m not sure we can expect to finish above City. For me, only 2 or 3 of our players would be guaranteed starters at any of the other top 4 clubs so, bearing in mind what Jose has at his disposal squad wise, I’d actually say he’s done very well.
It goes without saying that everyone wants trophies and attacking, attractive football but how many clubs can actually say they give their fans both? City this season are one. I can’t see anyone else providing that on a regular basis. If you can’t have both, winning is all that matters. Nobody would choose to lose playing pretty football over winning playing less attractive football, or I certainly hope not!
Disappointing season, sure, but a better one than everyone else bar City unless Liverpool pull off an upset in the CL which would paper over their indifferent league campaign this season. Klopp gets all the plaudits for the win against City at Anfield but that game aside, they’ve taken very few points against the other top 6 sides this season, less than half of what Utd have.

I’m not so sure there is. We don’t have any great CBs in this England squad at all

19th May 2018 at 7:10 pm in reply to: *The FA Cup Final 2018* Chelsea V Manchester United – Sat 19th May 17:15 #21878Congrats Nine and the other Chelsea lads on here. Enjoy your BBQ!
Impressive defensive display from Chelsea today. Every attack we were just met with an unbreakable blue wall. A real lack of quality from Utd, though, with the final ball. So many cheap losses of possession. We really lacked a bit of magic to break through today. Poor decision making cost us.
Bring on next season!

18th May 2018 at 5:10 pm in reply to: *The FA Cup Final 2018* Chelsea V Manchester United – Sat 19th May 17:15 #21826We have a good record against the other top 6 sides this season, bettered only by City. So, I’m glad we’re going up against another top side rather than one we’re easily expected to win. That coupled with Mourinho’s unmatched record of winning finals means I’m hopeful. Although, being a cup final, anything can happen and Conte himself has proved a very clever tactician despite their underwhelming season in the league.
I certainly wouldn’t put any money on it either way!

I’ve another little one due to arrive into the world on 18th June so I just won’t have the time to run a World Cup one over the summer! But I’d be well up for an external one. Any links to the one you’re talking about Chucky?

Been a great player for City and it will be interesting to see where he goes next, considering he seems keen to remain in the PL. With all his experience, I’d do everything I could to pick him up on a free if I was managing anyone from Arsenal down. I’m not sure he’s got the legs to play at a higher level anymore.
