Don’t expect us to make easy work of Rochdale! I actually wouldn’t be surprised to see us go out. Being deadly serious. Out on pens. You heard it here first

I always find the gross vs net spend argument to be a tricky one as both are somewhat flawed. The problem with looking at net spending is this:
Imagine a new manager coming into City, Chelsea and Utd now. At City the new manager could sell about 300mil worth of talent without touching the first team squad and he’d be able to “hardly spend anything” yet bring in lots of top reinforcements to a team of superstars. A net spend analysis would make him appear to be a miracle worker. At Chelsea, they have so many good players out on loan that there is lots to be sold off too, to generate spending money. A new Utd manager coming in now and who would you sell to give you money to spend without severely weakening the first team?
Now I’m not saying that means Gross spending is more accurate because it’s not. But I think without any context, neither are perfect.

Ed Woodward has done tons of good things for Utd. He’s the man who supercharged the commercial side of the business to make it the powerhouse it is today. People laugh at our vast array of sponsors but IMO we’ve retained things like the Stadium name, which actually mean something to the fans, and made tons of money wherever else we can. Woodward isn’t a football man though and the sooner he’s moved back to doing what he does best, the better.
I honestly don’t know what the answer is at Utd. It’s not that we don’t have a plan. It’s that our plan changes on a much too frequently basis. One minute we’re all about trophies at any cost. The next buying young and British. We’re in desperate need of a long term strategy. That’s not the same as a long term manager, which is notoriously uncommon these days. You can spend all the money you like on the shiny new players but, without that long term strategy, it won’t be worth it.
People ask why the fans aren’t kicking off. The match going Utd fans are an incredibly loyal bunch. Look at the reception they gave Jose at the Utd Chelsea game, despite his poor spell at Utd. IMO they’re too loyal, though. Ole was never going to work.
As for him being sacked this week, absolutely no chance. He might not have long but no chance of him being kicked out yet. Just had a quick check on odds for the next manager to go. Ole is 8/1 second favourite. Poch is amazingly not far behind on 14/1 though!
It’s without question only a matter of time before he goes though. My fear, though, is that it won’t matter at all whether he goes or stays because my faith in them actually finding the right man is at an all time low.
A loss at home to Arsenal could certainly seal his fate next Monday, despite what I said earlier.

Chucky, as good as Liverpool have been, for all those sides to be 10 points behind them after 6 games is, frankly, inexcusable.

Mikus and Nine, both very good points. I think the whole Ole thing, whilst it was an ok temporary reprieve from the Jose disaster, put the board in a difficult position where they felt compelled to give him the job, albeit very prematurely. It was clearly never the intention from the beginning and so you do wonder if that’s what held them back. As someone else said before, the three signings were all safe signings. They’ll all be starters for years to come, whoever comes in.
Not really sure where Utd go from here. He 100% won’t get sacked yet. Unless things take a real turn and we nosedive down the league, I think he’ll get until the end of the season (or until we mathematically can’t get in the top 4). Part of me says we should go for the experience and pedigree of Allegri. The other part says go for a young, fresh manager like Nagelsmann at Leipzig or the Ajax coach.
Our only saving grace so far is that Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal have all been just as rubbish!

I remember saying exactly this when we sold Lukaku. Say what you want about him but he was a reliable goalscorer and neither of the ones remaining are that. Troubling times continue at Old Trafford. Matter of time for Ole, sadly
Did anyone actually think #mufc could sell their most reliable goalscorer, not replace him and expect unreliable forwards to become reliable goalscorers? This was all so predictable. And avoidable.

Just read Real would have to pay Zidane £70mil if they sack him. Wow! No wonder he’s not doing very well. I think I’d be making some very questionable decisions at my work if I knew that was the “consequence” of doing so.
Jose back to Real or will Allegri be tempted?

Took us way too long to break down Astana who were just camped deep in their own half. But on a positive note, Mason Greenwood, remember the name. Brilliant goalscoring and assists record at youth level and truly 2 footed. No guarantee of him making the grade but one thing’s for sure at Utd, he’ll be given every chance to do so. Great composure with his finish last night. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting more in the league now.

Mav, Sancho is IMO behind only Mbappe in terms of the most exciting players under 21. He’s the one player I’d pick at my club given the choice. Considering his age, potential and current ability, he will cost an awful lot of money whenever someone manages to prize him away from Dortmund.
And they will do that. Dortmund generally don’t hang onto their stars for too long and are not averse to selling when they feel the price is right. As crazy as it sounds, if someone gets him for £100mil,they’ve got a bargain.

Very much tongue in cheek Mak, in keeping with Neville’s original comment. Ridiculous to think any of those, never mind ALL of them, would come to Utd

Easy to sign all those three.
Sell
Pogba £200mil
Sanchez £70mil
Smalling £65milBuy
Mbappe £60mil
Kante £45mil
Varane £40milBy my calculations, we’d still pocket around £200mil and built that dream spine.

Yeah to be honest it wouldn’t surprise me if that is the only game City lose all season and they still go on to get 100+ points. They certainly have the squad to do it. They lost at home to Palace last season and there were similar claims of a collapse then but I’m pretty sure they didn’t lose again after that, or at least went on an unbelievable run until the end of the season. No doubt, they’ll be back to business on Saturday with a 4/5 nil win at home to Watford

Would probably add McTominay and Lingard to that list for Utd Chelsea man. That’s only counting the regulars. The likes of Pereira, Greenwood, Chong, Gomes, Tuanzebe are all getting chances for Utd too. Granted, ours don’t have as many top players (if any) to get past.
But let’s remember, this is THE best talent Pep has EVER seen, including Messi, Xavi, Lewandowski, Iniesta, Ronaldinho etc. If he’s really that good, it shouldn’t matter who is ahead of him should it?

Agree it’s a strange one Mikus. If Foden really is the best talent Pep has ever seen, like he said, it begs the question as to why he neither plays him nor loans him out. If, as Pep suggests, he has a shyness problem and needs to assert himself more, I can’t think of anything more suitable than a season in the Championship like Mount had.

Stones has always been a liability Adlab. Ok on the ball, poor defender. David Luiz in disguise.

City look so poor today and Sterling, despite massive improvement in his game, still makes strange decisions with his final ball.
Can’t see City losing this still though. They’re too good to lose at Norwich
