I’m not saying this is the greatest idea in the world but could we install Szobo as the perm right winger for the season, supported by Elliot and Chiesa? It would be easier to find someone for the centre midfield to bring in. A bit like the season we stuck Gerrard in at right back? Options might then show themselves in Jan or during the course of the season…

Macclad, I’ve thought about that and it could work. You’d have Szoboszlai and Wirtz interchanging, width provided by Frimpong or Bradley overlapping, Barcola (maybe) on the left.
Would put Szoboszlai more often in the area you want him both offensively and defensively, and you could get a more balance midfield two with Gravenberch and another.
Trouble is Iraola has so far favoured direct and pacey wide attackers and our reported summer targets would suggest that’s still true.

Had Fabinho’s defence, Gravenberch’s progression, Trent’s passing range and Dom’s distance shots.Well, back to reality.
Rayan is probably the best shout for a right winger, unless Barcola could play there (right footed I think). Unless we could loan Rodrygo with option to buy – he’s a risk with his injury, but if he comes back to his best he would be great. Real rarely does us any favors though._____________________________

Most of our crosses last season were absolute shite including Frimp’s and Dom’s. We need natural wide players that can aggressively beat a man and put a good ball in.

Rob I think if you watched any of the top teams you’d pick fault with their crossing. Besides having wide players is more than just crossing, it’s not the 90s anymore.

Threeps, of course it’s more than putting a ball in but that area needs improvement. We’ve had inconsistency with final balls from our wide men for a while now and players like Isak wouldn’t mind the odd quality aerial ball as he often received from Gordon, Barnes, Murphy and Trippier.

there seems to be rather big merry go around with forwards right now, Diomande is 86% on his way to Real Madrid according to transfermarkt, then Vinicius might leave Madrid as well and it would not surprise me to see him joining PSG if not Arsenal. We are after Barcola and prepared to wait for him it seems, we are also looking at his potential replacement at PSG, what ever his name was. Someone has to break this dead lock, it´s like a game of chess right now.

Crossing needs space and movement. Last season the tactics prohibited both. Also last season we would start crossing in desperation in the final 10 mins when the opposion were dug in
I agree with Rob actually on Frimpong but at Leverkusen he was good at getting himself into the box or to thr byline, hence my comment there’s more to wide play than crossing. I disagree on Szoboszlai, think he is good at crossing and will only get better (in all departments) with more suitable tactics.

It looks like Diomande is done for Real Madrid, that could put something in motion, I doubt Rodrygo will get much game time there right now and Vinny still refuses to sign a new contract over there.

Bingo, as Ginger said Rodrygo is out with an ACL, return date end of the year or early next year. He is going nowhere this transfer window and unlikely in January either as the 2nd part of the season will be him getting back his fitness.

From ITKSpace, who made a bit of a thing about a Liverpool announcement tonight:
Bradley Barcola agreed personal terms with Liverpool several weeks ago, with a five-year contract already in place. The first discussions date back months and were led by Richard Hughes, Michael Edwards and, interestingly enough, Linda Pizzuti Henry, whose influence over the day-to-day operations of FSG continues to grow. It’s worth stating again, as exclusively revealed several days ago, preparations inside Liverpool have now reached their final stage, with a formal written offer currently being prepared ahead of its imminent submission to Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcola has already held conversations with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, both of whom spoke in glowing terms about Liverpool, the culture inside the club and the project ahead, further encouraging him to make the move to Anfield. In truth, very little convincing was ever required, as his dream has always been to represent England’s crown jewel, the most mystical institution football has ever witnessed. That is precisely why he rejected a significant contract proposal from Mikel Arteta’s North London set piece dependency project by the name of Arsenal, despite the offer including substantially higher wages and a considerably larger signing bonus.
Nevertheless, inside the industry there is an expectation that negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain may naturally take some time following the Parisian disappointment surrounding the Yan Diomandé situation. The belief, however, remains that an agreement is ultimately inevitable, with the club unwilling to risk losing Bradley Barcola for free once his contractual situation reaches its decisive stage. That determination, first exclusively revealed by me several months ago, has never wavered, because his heart has always belonged to the crimson cathedral of Merseyside.
ITKSpace, formeley ITKBayen, have a fairly good reputation these days. Called a lot correct last year.
To be honest, this doesnt really tell us more than a lot of us already knew. We still need to agree a fee with PSG and that will not be easy. The only really interesting part was that Linda was involved!

They did a follow up. I won’t bore you with it, if interested you can Google.
But basically it said that Barcola is being recruited for this season to play on the right before moving to the left in 2027 when a left footed right sided attacker like Rayan or Olise will be recruited.
As I said they have said some good stuff before, not sure how anyone other than Liverpool coaching sand scouting team would know anything about longer term recruitment plans however. Pinch of salt springs to mind.
The general noise besides this is that Barcola will sign soon.

Just thinking about Chelsea and the rumour on both Wellbeck and Hendo, both 35. In fairness to both, whether or not they’ve revived their careers is a question, but they’ve certainly reinvented themselves rolling their sleeves up and being professional.
I don’t think I’ve seen this at all in our now industry.
