There was no fire sale and that is a fact. I doubt few would disagree about the depth and quality of the squad but neither of those can be attributed to a fire sale last summer because that simply never happened.

As for squad depth (and quality), as previously said, I doubt few would disagree that it is lacking but I’d suggest that situation predates the summer of 2025.

Incidentally, Which members of the squad that left in that summer, for whatever reason, were not replaced in some form or other? What impact did that have on the number in the squad?

Sarr is no upgrade on gakpo. Barcola comes in so its just plus one .

Personally, I’d be sad to see Gakpo leave. I have nothing against him. All that Slot stuff last season I would place in isolation. He was a Top Signing back in 2022 and complimented our then Firing line.

He will get you goals and most of all, we will miss his creativity even though he’s been (rightly or wrongly) criticised for being one-dimensional.

I recognise on the basis of the Barcola business we are of course trying to recoup money, but to sell to one of our rivals is not great practice.

We’ve got to look beyond 11 players on the pitch and it just seems we are not learning from a planning and rebuilding point of view.

Something has come in from a certain source online that City will extend their bid for Gakpo to 100 million. This hinges I believe on whether we ourselves find a replacement, so I’m assuming that’s gotta be Saar from Palace. WOW!

Well we obviously got a new profile of a player that is wanted out on the wings, we are only looking at players with plenty pace and ability to beat their marker and Gakpo does not seem to fit in anywhere. 85 million is a huge profit on the player, we bought him for 42 million and that fee has already been amortized. So a huge profit on a player that is very likely to sit on the bench but if we sell him we need another forward. I´m seeing some talk about Rayan coming in instead. That make some sense, I don´t really believe we are bidding for any 27 year old winger out there. It´s just not the profile of player FSG have ever signed.

It seem Barcola is a bit closer to arriving, I´ve seen some shorts on youtube where he was signing autographs and basically saying goodbye to some fans in France.

Yeah he won’t replace Salah,s output, no one can, but it’s about replacing that output elsewhere within the team. I think he would be a good buy aside from thr bring injured for two months part. His style suits Iraola.
