Sounds ridiculous but Utd aren’t a bad bet in that we could have really got our shit together by then as well as the Ronaldo factor. Don’t think we’ll do it at all but the odds are tempting. Few would have thought Chelsea would do it this time last year.

Yeah me too Lucky should be a good game.
I think Poch might want to go to the end of the season to give him a chance of winning a first League title and having another pop at winning the CL with PSG.
But if United come in and put the right compensation package to PSG that could all change with Zidane waiting in the wings.

Ed, Utd would be a good outside bet. I’ll note that City have been favourites for years now. So, not gonna put too much stock in the bookies when it comes to knock out tournaments. Pep is a brilliant manager but he kinda bottles these games sometimes. That’s going to come across as harsh but it isnt mean to be. I say it with the greatest respect for the football that he’s able to get this team to play.

In a one-off winner takes all game, tactics and skill come second to desire and composure. Pep is amazing at the former two but his teams have been shown up in the latter two on occasion.

Desire and composure are incredibly important in the one off games but I don’t think you are sacrificing tactics at all. Pep definitely comes up with some weird ones and I don’t think it has anything to do with his skill being beaten by the desire of the other team, and more to do with Pep trying to be too clever.
Although he’s having a hard time of it now (he was too long away from the top of the game IMO) but Rafa had a very successful 5 years in the CL for Liverpool. As you know, we only won it once but another final and I think 2 semi final appearances? Or a semi and a quarter, I forget… Either way, he didnt play the most attractive brand of football but he was definitely geared more towards this over standard league format. Liverpool over-performed in the CL, as opposed to the PL. Could some of that go down to how Gerrard could grab games by the scruff of the neck? He was definitely a factor but ask any Liverpool fan who watched all our CL games and I bet you that most will say Rafa was even more of an influence.
To support your opinion, it does take that special drive to get over the line on the night. I still don’t know how we beat Milan in 05, just like I can’t believe that they beat us in 07. Crazy times!

In a cup competition any team can win,. Greece in the Euros, Wigan in the FA Cup, …….Chelsea in thr CL (only kidding). Of course Utd can win it. It depends very much on the draw.

Surprised how easily City handled this game despite having top players out while PSG had all their stars. 2-1 was not a proper reflection of the game same as their game against United which still suggests they need a proper striker.

Adlab, to clarify, I’m not at all suggesting or even tipping Utd to win it. I don’t for a minute think we will. I’m just saying those odds are a little tempting considering we could be in an entirely different place in February and riding on the wave of a new manager bounce. Not one person would have tipped Chelsea to do it when Lampard was there. They were struggling for top 4 but ended up outplaying City in the final thanks to a new manager.

Just watched the game highlights again,. We did play better than watching first time. It was a good team performance. Also I couldn’t pick a man of the match as all were good. Possibly Walker and Bernardo were extra good?
