If we miss top 4, we’ll only have ourselves to blame. I don’t think anyone expected miracles from Ten Hag in his first season and it was always going to take time to implement such a shift in style. If we get rid of the Glazers and end the season with the Carabao Cup and no top 4, I’d have taken that before the season started.

Whether it’s fatigue, lack of quality in players covering for injuries, lack of goalscorers in the team. I’m not sure what it is but we seem to be playing decent first halves then just so far second half. Top 4 looking less and less likely to me for Utd.

It’s pretty much the team Sean suggested but with these changes:
Ramsdale instead of Alisson
Dias instead of Martinez
Salah instead of Saka_____________________________

Not far off the team Sean suggested. Saka, Rodri and Martinez look unfortunate to have missed out on first look

5th May 2023 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Weekend Football 35 – Coronation Week โฝ๏ธ๐ฌ๐ง๐คด #206682If be shocked if Liverpool drop another point this season Nil. If Utd and Newcastle are to make top 4, they’re going to need to not drop silly points now because both Brighton and Liverpool will smell blood. They’re both now in the enviable position of being able to play without fear or pressure as nobody expects either to make top 4 now anyway so the pressure is off. A real test of character for the two in 3rd and 4th to see out the last few games with the pressure fully on.

That’s it Mikus. Of all the interim managers appointed this season, who’d have thought the 75 year old Hodgson would have been the smartest appointment? Not me. As good as he’s been, it’s madness in a way that Hodgson and Big Sam are still being brought in to save these sides in 2023 ๐.

Yeah I agree Alfie. He probably should go but I think there are 2 reasons he won’t. Firstly, as you suggested they’re probably safe now regardless. Secondly, I think they (the owners) are very aware of how bad their image is at the moment in the eyes of the fans. To ditch a club legend so soon into an interim spell is drama they could do without.
Based on the decisions they’ve made so far, they probably have absolutely no idea who they would bring in to replace Lampard until the summer anyway. Imagine if they brought in another interim and he did no better. They’d look even worse. It shouldn’t be underestimated either how difficult it must be to bring in another interim just for 4/5 games either. Who is out there who would want that? By now, you have to assume the likes of Poch have said they want to wait until the summer. I have no doubt they’d have already brought in their new permanent manager if that person was prepared to start immediately.

I’m not worried tbh. If we don’t get top 4 from here then we wouldn’t deserve it as we’d be throwing it away. That’s not to say I’m confident yet but I just think we need to accept that letting it go from this point would mean we have no right to be there. As you suggest, Liverpool have no right to be there either really based on your season.

Oh, no doubt Mikus. He’s given the ref a decision to make. Don’t like how Darwin leaves his leg in there for the contact but they all do it. I’ll certainly not be moaning if we get one of them tomorrow. Think we’ve had 2 pens all season, though, less than anyone so I won’t be holding my breath ๐.

I haven’t really watched Liverpool games Nil. Just happened to see those decisions on my twitter timeline. I’ve no doubt you’ve had things go against you, as I already said. Things will always get highlighted though for the big clubs.

Hadn’t seen the Liverpool game or heard the commentary but this did look pretty soft Nil. You’ve had some good decisions in recent weeks with the Jota one, this one and no pen to West Ham for thr potential handball. No doubt you’ve had plenty go against you this season too but it feels like Liverpool are in that type of form where things are just falling for you at the right time. We’ve all been there. Utd and Newcastle are going to have to keep winning to stop Brighton or Liverpool sneaking into the top 4.
VAR is corrupt as fuck. There is no contact here how did they give a penalty. Ah aye its Liverpool innit pic.twitter.com/EJ07FGPOZe

Considering the 3 games you have following Bournemouth and Forest, you might not get any more points if you don’t take anything from those 2 Lucky. Surely not? I think if you had 3 or 4 points less than you do, it could be a nervous last few weeks. As it is, it’s surely just about pride now.

Yeah worrying times for Chelsea Lucky. Can’t believe how much worse you’ve become under Lampard.

Indeed Mikus. It’s fine turning up and performing when the pressure is off and nobody expects you to get top 4 from where you are. Where was this team for the rest of the season? Van Dijk absolutely rinsed by Perisic.

We have to go to Brighton and West Ham soon so if we were to drop points against Villa, Utd fans will start to feel a bit nervous I think. Would be a complete disaster for either of the 2 to let anyone else in now.

See, I don’t even mind people complaining about decisions. I would have been very annoyed by the Fernandes offside decision in the derby had it gone against us. I think we more than deserved to win the game regardless but that’s a moot point (just as you did vs Fulham). The goal shouldn’t have stood despite what I first thought and said. My point is this completely illogical notion that people like to bring up that you’re not allowed to complain about decisions if you’ve ever benefitted from anything. It would be the end of football discussion/debates for good ๐

๐ not at all gjblues. Takes more than that to get me riled. It’s just one of those completely illogical arguments which I’ve never got my head around.
“You can’t complain about decisions against your club. Don’t you remember what happened in the 16/17 season when your number 8 was offside but the goal was given?!”
It makes no sense at all because it would mean the only ones of us who could ever complain about decisions going against us would be those whose club has never benefitted from a decision and, well, you know what that would result in, right? Obviously, City fans will complain if decisions go against them at the weekend and rightly so. You’re hardly going to refrain from complaining about decisions simply because you’ve been on the right side of them are you? Well, you didn’t with the Fernandes one, which is kind of my point. Nobody said to you then, “hang on City fans, remember when De Bruyne dived against Fulham? Don’t be moaning about this offside now” It makes no sense at all ๐

Gjblues, seriously?! We’re going back that far and suggesting Utd can’t complain about decisions yesterday because of a single decision which went our way almost 4 months ago? ๐
I guess City fans can’t complain about any decisions at all then based on that first half you had against RB Leipzig with that very dodgy pen given to City and Ederson somehow escaping a red. Or how about the horrific De Bruyne dive for the pen against Fulham? See, it doesn’t really work like that does it? Otherwise, City fans wouldn’t have been allowed to even moan about the Fernandes decision. You were on here complaining about fans being too tribal but you’re as bad as the ones you’re complaining about ๐

That’s what you get Mikus when your main striker (Martial) hardly plays all season and your cover is an on loan failed Burnley striker ๐. Rashford can’t do it all from the left, albeit he was central today.
We must be on some kind of record for coming up against new managers though. Seems to happen all the time.
