No votes for Jose ‘majestic’ Mourinho?

Massively important that Liverpool bring someone in during this window IMO, if nothing else then to just give the team a bit of a lift again and some much needed depth.
There’s going to be a real battle on for those top four places and it’s hard to see Liverpool hanging on without they at least partly replace his creativity.

Surely just a fluke Hightown? The only other thing I can think is that it is linked to the declining interest from clubs in the FA Cup. Are the players taking it a bit easy so as to not miss important league games? Are the managers saving their best flair players for more important games, thus reducing creativity and therefore goals?

Just to be clear, I haven’t banned Wise-fan. If he decides he wants to come back to the site, he’s welcome to email me. I only removed his ability to post and will in turn delete his account at his request.

P.S. Can I kindly ask that we all refrain from mentioning things which happened on other sites on here? Let’s focus on making this site as good as it can be and leave whatever grievances we have with others at the sites where they occurred.

Wise fan just sent me an email asking for his account to be removed so he can no longer post so I’ve set him to spectator. Will delete his account tomorrow. Does anyone want to summarise this thread?! Have we come to the conclusion that all managers are indeed asshats, but some more than others?

Nil, Chucky has made a very good point and it’s nothing to do with those players jumping ship to Barcelona. It’s barely a week since you were rejoicing over the Van Dijk move to Liverpool where the Saints once again lost one of their best players to a bigger PL side.
You simply can’t have it both ways by celebrating Liverpool capturing another Southampton player while criticising Barca for signing another one of yours,a good 3 and a half years since they signed Suarez.

Nine, even if the comment was innocent, as I suspect, then Jose only has himself to blame for the fact that people assume the intention was there to have a dig. It’s the boy that cried wolf. As you say, we’ll never know really but Jose’s history certainly doesn’t help my case!
In many ways it’s irrelevant though, as the comments afterwards by both managers were uncalled for and silly.
Banjo, pretty spot on!
Moos, I think I’ve been pretty impartial on Mourinho on this site. I did have him as my number 1 in my list of most annoying managers to be fair! But you are of course entitled to your opinion

The question, remember, was “do you still have the same desire, hunger to win?” which is clearly a suggestion that there is a noticeable change in his apparent passion, and asking whether that means he is less passionate than previously.
If the question was “Some would say you’re not as passionate as some of the other managers in the league. Is that the case?” then I would absolutely buy the theory that he’s having a dig but the context is just not right for this to be a dig IMO.

It’s not very often I defend Mourinho but I’ve just watched the press conference again and he’s directly answering a question he was asked about whether he still has the same passion for the game. He can be a real twat but, for me, he’s definitely talking about the change in himself here with regards to the clown comments.
All the nonsense after by both managers is ridiculous and indefensible on both sides but I think he’s been stitched up for once by misleading headlines. Conte offering to fight Mourinho was a bit funny though!

Ah ok yes, just checked and his contract is of course up in the summer. Not a bad squad option for that price then and another homegrown quota place filled! Like Beni, I don’t think he’ll improve any of the top teams but it gives them a bit more depth

I’ve always seen Barkley as one of those players who looks good on highlights but is incredibly frustrating to watch for whole matches. He’s not a bad option if the fee of Β£15mil is accurate but he’s certainly not the player it looked like he could be after the early promise he showed. Β£15mil for an English player in this market seems almost suspiciously low. Is he out of contract soon? If not, I’d be wary of why Everton are not holding out for more

Also, my point is that we were never liked by non-Utd fans before Jose so why should we start trying to be liked now? Ferguson was universally despised by all who didn’t support Utd but do you think any Utd fan would change that for a nice man in charge?

Princewhite, no that’s not really what I’m saying. I’m saying I wouldn’t swap him for a nicer guy unless that guy also had at least as good and proven record as Jose. I mean, we could probably swap him for, say, Harry Redknapp and have better PR but at what cost? Better PR doesn’t fill a trophy cabinet!

I’m quite indifferent about Mourinho’s future. The ABU (anyone but United) tag was around long before Mourinho arrived so we’re hardly a club that pays much attention to what others think about us!
Good PR is great, but it should never be at the expense of success. LvG was quite liked by non-Utd fans and we played some good stuff at times but apart from the FA Cup win, we never looked like winning anything under him. I’d never take him back though, despite our PR being better during that period.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. A nice, pleasant manager is great but, given the choice of a pleasant, PR-friendly loser or an unpleasant, unlikeable winner, I’d take the latter every single time.
Most fans, including a number of City fans, were generally quite disappointed with Pep last year and they looked a mile away from being able to do what they’ve done this year, so to write Jose off is IMO slightly naive. There is nobody in football more qualified or with a proven ability to topple a top Pep side than Mourinho.

Only De Bruyne (9), David Silva (8) and Leroy SanΓ© (8) have more Premier League assists than Pogba (7) this season β all three have played at least 250 minutes more than the Frenchman
— Ryan Baldi (@RyanBaldiFW) January 1, 2018
Much better from Utd today and Pogba played like a captain. Some of his touches and passes were just brilliant. When Pogba is playing well, Utd are such a better side. Everton didn’t get a shot on target all game. All without a fit number 9 with both Lukaku and Zlatan out.
