If it’s not against the rules Pagan, fair enough but you never see it. It’s still incredibly questionable behaviour and he’s a ref who’s already consider to be a supporter of a rival team.

Like, he’s cost us a goal there, not Adrian. All keepers will check from the posts. I’m not pleased with that little attempt to sabotage us. It didn’t work but it very nearly did and could have. Of course, there’s no free in the first place if Alisson keeps his head but players make mistakes. For me, Atkinson didn’t quite make a mistake, as such.

Anyway, look, we still scraped the 3 points. Can we please keep a clean sheet soon!? I think we’ve conceded in like 13 games in a row now or something. That’ll catch us out one of these days.

Nil is not going to have a good reaction to Atkinson’s “blunder”, I can tell you that.

Yes, Peggy Sue, don’t think anybody can have any arguments about the sending-off… and as you can tell, Liberoool were perhaps dilly-dallying about a bit with the free-kick, the ref blew, and the Seagulls took it. As Micky says, perhaps a bit harsh as that doesn’t happen that often (although it should!), but no rules were broken, and I’m pretty sure the “defending” team at set-pieces doesn’t have the right to dictate when the game can begin (even if they just happen to be this year’s Champions).

Sean, the only thing that you can attribute luck to in football is the toss of the coin, you get what you deserve from a game, you won 2-1 and deserved that, Chelsea lost 0-1 and deserved that.

All that to one side my tickets for Millwall’s trip to Pride Park have come through the post today so looking forward to a good day out in a fortnight….Pagan

All I can say to that is, if you’ve had time to substitute the keeper, then the wall should have been pretty much set by the defenders, perhaps a bit more time focusing on the game and less arguing with the ref would have been a more useful….Pagan

It was 10 yards back and I don’t remember any Brighton players playing silly buggers with it… agree with Peggy, Liberoool had plenty of time to deal with it and I’m pretty sure it’s not up to the goalie when the game is allowed to resume. Don’t even know why we’re discussing this… but I reckon there’s a few Barca fans chuckling when they see it.

The advantage in a free kick lies with the attacking team the Goalkeeper doesn’t have the right to set a wall to his requirement after an offence has been committed by the defending team. As to Atkinson supporting a rival team all officials have to declare their Club allegiances and are not allowed to officiate games that are in any way relevant to the Club they may support.

Sean, I didn’t say you were lucky today mate but your sub keeper nearly spilled one into his own net late on and were hanging on at the end.
You’ve won quite a few games this season without playing that well – certainly a sign of champs.
I also said you were good.

Yep, the keeper generally sets the wall position, but a player cannot delay the restart of the game, I wasn’t ready isn’t really an excuse.

I’ll admit you rarely see quick free kicks nowadays, and it’s even rarer to see what you have described today, but it is within the laws of the game, is it ethical? well football is probably one of the least ethical and moral games around. Still at least it wasn’t a result changing incident and will give them something on MOTD to talk about….Pagan

Agree with Chucky Leicester aside it’s Liverpool’s title to lose now.

Can’t see it personally December and early January still remains a potential hiccup for Liverpool but if Liverpool come through that relatively unscathed they’re pretty much home and dry.
