I thought the CL Final deserved a thread of its own.
It promises so much and ends a brilliant couple of weeks of football let’s hope Bayern v PSG has a bit of everything and doesn’t disappoint. It’s cram packed with brilliant players for sure. Cant wait. 🙂23rd August 2020 at 10:48 am #159474Surrey BlueParticipant9 pts
And to think, if City had a manager capable of playing the right players in the right positions to get the right result, it might have been in the Final tonight – whoops, sorry, wrong thread…….23rd August 2020 at 11:22 am #159491

Bayern definitely for me tonight. Just a Class side full of quality. Not a fan of Neymar or PSG.23rd August 2020 at 11:48 am #15950923rd August 2020 at 12:17 pm #159524threepsParticipant200 pts
Can’t stand Neymar either. I think Mbappe against Bayerns high line will have a field day. Having said that I can’t see Bayern not scoring either.
I’m not exactly a fan of Bayern but I’d rather they won it. Proper club with history rather than a a fake one with drama queen players bought with oil money by a questionable regime to the delight of their entitled thinking fans.
How many times do we think Neymar will take a tumble tonight? Such a naturally talented player who could of been spoken about in the same breath as Messi or Ronaldo but let’s himself down badly with the theatricals.23rd August 2020 at 12:21 pm #159530
Couldn’t put it any better 3ps. 100% in agreement. And for those reasons, I’d much rather Bayern lift the trophy tonight.23rd August 2020 at 12:24 pm #15953123rd August 2020 at 1:30 pm #15957323rd August 2020 at 2:20 pm #159602
Good point about Mbappe having a field day with that high line. Very very risky23rd August 2020 at 2:25 pm #159606
The anticipation for a great Final is immense and rightly so given the front players of both Bayern and PSG.
Ultimately it may well come down with such a fine array of offensive players as to which defence handles it best.
Let’s hope we get the game we think we will.23rd August 2020 at 2:53 pm #159611
“LISBON, Portugal — UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin will hold talks about retaining the single-game eliminator format that has been used to complete the pandemic-disrupted Champions League and Europa League seasons, although it could only be used for semifinals.
In an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, Ceferin said people inside and outside of football had contacted him to say they were “extremely excited” by the final eight format that abandoned the home-and-away two-legged quarterfinals and semifinals.
“I have to say that this system of one match seems more interesting to me than the other system with two legged matches,” Ceferin told the AP ahead of Paris Saint-Germain playing Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.
Ceferin stressed he would consult widely before pushing for any permanent changes to the format.
“It’s one of the interesting things that was brought by this pandemic,” Ceferin said. “We had to do a system like that. We had to play this way, but at the end, we see it’s a very interesting system.
“Now, it’s quite complicated to place a final eight in the calendar. But we saw that people want exciting matches, that in one match, every team can beat every team in Champions League or the Europa League. So it’s something to consider for the future … I think in September or October, we have to start to seriously speak.”
Ceferin is not concerned that removing the number of knockout games could have a significant financial impact on UEFA
“Even though you have less matches, the value can be higher if promoted properly,” he said. “I see my friends from football and out of football calling me and texting me and they are all extremely excited about this system. Not so much tactics.”
Gathering eight teams in Lisbon to conclude the Champions League appeared to be only feasible because no fans were allowed in the two stadiums as part of coronavirus restrictions, meaning the Portuguese authorities have not had to deal with rival factions gathering in the streets.
A final four format could be more practical to adopt in a single city over a week to create a Super Bowl-style buzz.
“You are in the centre of attention for a week of the whole world and this might be a fantastic thing, but we have to see,” Ceferin said. “The calendar is very complicated, players play almost 365 days per year. So we have to see how we do it, if we do it.
“But again, I think it’s an interesting format, which we didn’t think about before and now it’s somewhere here in our mind. So we will start discussing about it when we meet up.”
UEFA has already been exploring how to change the Champions League format after 2024. The final eight system has also been used to conclude the Europa League and Women’s Champions League this month.”
Interesting if I was UEFA I would adopt this last 8 format going forwards for both the EL and CL it’s added to both competitions imo.23rd August 2020 at 3:30 pm #159627
Good point Nine re 2:25. Psg will likely to feed off the counter using Mbappe’s pace. It’s how stretched Bayern’s defence becomes and how they handle the threat.
Definitely high line and press for them.23rd August 2020 at 8:09 pm #159841
Any side with Neymar and Herrara in are likely to have the neutrals supporting their opponents!23rd August 2020 at 8:17 pm #159849
Hightown. Lol. 🙂23rd August 2020 at 8:19 pm #159851
Remember when we played Bayern last season at Anfield when it finished 0-0 Gnabry was a real threat all night, and he’s got better since then.
Big chance for Neymar thete23rd August 2020 at 8:21 pm #159854
All blood and fire at the minute low on quality but you can see both are well up for it
Not like a pl team that often starts slow or “haven’t turned up”
As Nancy might say after his film session yesterday…. there can be only one!!23rd August 2020 at 8:22 pm #159855
What a turn and hit!!!23rd August 2020 at 8:22 pm #159856
Where’s Cavani these days? And why is Icardi not starting?23rd August 2020 at 8:23 pm #159858
That was the first real opportunity. Good defending Bayern. Lewandowski just hitting the post.
