Champions League many years ago was about the Elite. Top 2 would qualify. In my books although for reasons great for participation and experience, it devalues the European Cup Competition.

A Parallel from a team getting in from finishing 4th on 60+ points against a team finishing on 60+ points in the Championship and bagging the Playoffs; even as far as winning them.
