I think the original plan was to get both Barcola and Diomande and sell Gakpo but with the shenanigans around Diomande that plan has been ripped up. Munoz is a left side player but can play right. Don’t forget Iraola often swaps his wingers about even during the game.

I just get the feeling that of all our right wing targets only Diomande was available and after his deal fell through we are happy to wait a year and see with the others. It’s a very small pool of talent currently.

Currently, it’s a total disaster for us with centre-backs, and it could even approach our worst defensive crisis in 2020 when Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez were all injured for the season. At the moment Van DIjk is our only fit CB.

Gomez is totally unreliable, too frequently injured, and cannot be relied on.

Leoni couldn’t even last till the end of his first game for Liverpool and 11 months later, he’s still not ready to play for the club. While it’s the same with Jacquet, injured his shoulder in February, and still hasn’t recovered to play a game.

It is a BIG RISK to carry three injured centre-backs, for the following reasons:
1. You never know when they will come back, and even then, their injuries could reoccur.
2. They could develop new, different injuries, in the intense PL, that could set them back even further.
3. The new boys, Jacquet and Leoni, will have to learn how to cope with the intense, high-paced PL, and that may take a long time, if at all.
4. We may have to play midfielders such as Gravenberch or Endo at CB, and this is far from ideal.

So what us the solution? Well, that’s what Richard Hughes is paid the big money for, and he needs to sort it out.

For me, I think we should sign one top, experienced, robust CB, even if it’s just for one season. Otherwise Iraola will have to use a youth CB like Chambers or Ndiaye, and no way are they ready to play at the highest level in the PL.

This is the thing. I like both Ndiaye and Chambers, but realistically, they won’t be ready to be thrown into the first 11. That’s criminal if I’m completely blunt.

Ideally, we need Leoni up on fitness. Van Dijk is on the twilight of his career now. We can’t expect him to play every single game. Konate not replaced, so this again is down to our Recruitment Team to fix. One has already walked away so that leaves us with Hughes.

Thinking now how much of a shambles this is and we’re only 3 weeks away from the new season.

Jordan Henderson joins Chelsea, now that is a move I could not have predicted earlier this summer, what if he plays over there? There is a big difference in leadership qualities between him and Enzo. I do understand what Alonso is doing by bringing in both Welbeck and Hendo, they are pretty good pro´s after all and can raise the standard but are they gonna get game time.

Nil, Romano is about 2 or 3 days behind the news Ginger and myself have been sharing. Its been pretty much done for a few days, PSG just wanting for their deals to fall into place before any announcement.

It will happen.

As for anything else? Far more uncertain as on who or when.

I used to read page threeps and ginger get info from and have the odd browse now and one of them called macca to leave 5 days ago and now media only picking up on it

Realistically, we might need to hold on to Gakpo unless something overwhelming of a bid comes in that’s too good to refuse.

He can play in more than one position and we are let’s be honest struggling.

Realistically Gakpo would need the move to keep up his game time and momentum for his international side, as soon as Barcola shows up he is pushed out of his favorite position. Either he will be backup for Isak or Barcola, I don´t see him willing to change his game for the club and move to the right. It would be nice if he did so cause it would help us but I don´t see him holding that position down like he had the left flank last season.

Barcola is a long term target of ours, he has been on our radar since before his move to PSG. He is not trying to force through the move just yet, he should be in a pretty good shape when he arrives. That ball carrying ability of his is something we desperately need right now.

I was pretty adamant about Diomande to start with but I prefer Barcola as he seems to be the one that wants to join us, Barcola has no hesitations about joining the club. He is ready to commit his prime years to us! That is something I value from a player.

Barcola can also play up top, he got plenty experience as a number 9, won the Euros with the u21 or u23 team of France as a striker, that was some lineup actually.

I feel really confident about how he will perform for us, I also feel confident about how he will grow as a player with more responsibility.

Sean, Gakpo did just sign a new contract, he is contracted until 2030. The club has little reason to be selling him, we don´t really need the money even if we can re-invest it back into the squad easily.

We are all in agreement that he had a pretty bad season last time, he was okay in our previous seasons, I do wanna give him a 2nd chance to prove himself as I don´t really think he is as bad as I have described him to be.

He is just not a leading forward for the line, he is a squad player at best and a pretty decent one at that. When he has someone else causing trouble upfront he is decent, he can pop up with a goal when someone else creates some space for him to work with. He just can´t do it on his own.

Is he not still on compassionate leave, he actually got huge respect from me at the World Cup for showing up after the news, playing one of his best games ever as well and then completely breaking down at the end. I felt that pain.
