Anytime Ipswich Town pops up I hark back to the 94/95 season.
Ipswich won just 2 from 21 matches on the road that season but guess who 1 of those wins was against? I know. Toughie, right! To add insult to injury, it was their only away win without conceding and just a few weeks later they went to Old Trafford and lost 9-0. 59 goals conceded away from home and eventually got relegated.
Ipswich started this season off well winning 2-1 at home to Sunderland then took the lead at Old Trafford only to eventually get trounced.
The last time we played Ipswich at home was January of 2025 with goals from Szobo, Mo and Gakpo (2) in a 4-1 win.
Who will start Friday?
Alisson, Frimpong, Jacquet, VVD, Kerkez, Mac, Grav, Szobo, Gakpo, Munoz and Isak is my pick. Hope Barcola makes the bench.
I have no clue which way this game will go. I just don’t.
Players to watch out for are Nunez (the more effective Nunez), Emersonn (Lake and Palmer are injured), and the excellent Maeda.
You know Ipswich will score, no question so draw or home win for me. Sorry lads. I just don’t trust Liverpool out of possession and our shape, in, with no apparent balance or insurance policy in place when we lose the ball.

2nd September 2026 at 3:12 pm #255534The lads know they have to show up, no nonsense 3-0 victory for me. I hope Araujo starts, I really wanna see a whole game with him. There is no place for that midfield though, someone is losing out to Wirtz but that frontline is probably true, I hope Gakpo starts on the left and Munoz on the right. Then I am pretty sure that Barcola will be on the bench, the higher ups are gonna want him there and we should introduce him ASAP. Even if it´s just for 15-20 minutes later on in the match, I don´t wanna go through another season where we never see our best lineup.

2nd September 2026 at 3:36 pm #255544It’s the midfield trio that won us the title Bingo so these some merit there. Is it as effective as we want it to be? Is it hell. Could we see Wirtz start? Yep. Mac has to start as he is the only one with any sense of discipline in our mid. Grav and Szobo are always in kids sports day sprint mode to the top of the box.

2nd September 2026 at 5:30 pm #255563I’ll keep it simple, we have to win here to kick-start out the season. And every team in the Premier League is tough, so we have to be at our absolute best to win this game.
And no more silly mistakes, lax defending or self-sabotage, we simply have to cut down on this destructive behaviour from last season.
And I’d start Barcola if he’s ready, otherwise Muñoz.
Alisson
Frimpong Jacquet Van Dijk Kerkez
Mac Allister Szoboszlai
Gakpo Wirtz Barcola
Isak-

2nd September 2026 at 5:35 pm #255565Great idea dropping Wirtz, Rob.
I would drop him also but I think Iraola may want to give him a bit more time to prove himself before he makes that decision.

2nd September 2026 at 6:10 pm #255572Writz had a good game sat and set up a goal. He needs games to show us why we paid 116m with new manager
We need to get on with it now. Stop conceding soft goals.

2nd September 2026 at 8:50 pm #255586I’ve mentioned this multiple times, and I love it so I’ll mention again: I was so happy after the game 2 seasons ago when we played at Portman Road. Jota and Salah. Lovely August Sunshine and we found our way under a new ‘Slot Machine’ on the opening day after a better second half display 🙂
It was our passing and the way we carved out with patience not to mention appreciating the talented individuals we had; Luis Diaz, Mohammed Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold and the late Diogo Jota.
Gary O Neill will be up for this Friday Night make no mistake. If we have a mindset of taking no prisoners and setting our stall out from the first whistle, we would win this no problem with a couple of goals.
I think Clean Sheets are still a Premium find for us; it could be a 2-1 or another 2-2 draw. Let’s hope it’s the Former.

2nd September 2026 at 9:05 pm #255587It´s not the same system though is it Rob? Then that system was from Klopp and not Slot, he inherited it and then managed to fuck it up while on holiday in Ibiza.
I mean this sincerely when I say stop thinking about a front three and start envisioning how a front four can operate as that is the way we are going.
Some of the posters here think they are still right about our tactics from the start of the window, despite there being 2 real games and a few training games proving the opposite.
We are operating a system that is closer to a 424 this season, with Isak and Wirtz in the middle, that is basically the only certainty we have about our system.
We will find out next game where Barcola will feature and I will actually call you all idiots for the rest of the season if he debuts on the right wing. I will only call you half idiots if it is on the left as nobody here can see the tactics we are playing unless they watch a youtube documentary about it.
Half the posters are more concerned about proving themselves right, then proving the tactics we use right. I´m the only one on the forum that described this as a potential 442 or 424 system, I was not even trying to prove myself right, I just asked you lads to keep a open mind about where we are heading as nothing is definite about how we are gonna play until all the players arrive and we got more than 5 games under Iraola to assess how the team is going to play.
But you all made up your minds, this might be my biggest I told you so season yet and I´ve had a few.
We are capable of 80-85 points, the only team that scares me this season in Arsenal, I got Chelsea around the 75 points margin, I got United around the same place, I got Villa at around 65-70, Spurs between 50-60. Of the smaller clubs Brighton and Bournemouth might have a good season and finish around 60-70. City are going through their biggest transition for a decade, it´s gonna be problematic for them and I only see them around 80-85 points.
This season is gonna be a dogfight until the end between 3 clubs, maybe 4-5 clubs. We can only complain about the rightback situation and Szobo just signed a new contract, got appointed as vice-captain and did play there to better effect than all our right fullbacks so I expect him to pick up the slack there.
We have already seen him play there this season albeit only for 20-30 minutes but it worked.
We just have to remember that Iraola is boss, not the journos that speculate, not the players that are selfish. It´s Iraola!!!

2nd September 2026 at 9:21 pm #255589and please for fucks sake, don´t make me to be the most rational one here during a window, I don´t like it. I wanna talk conspiracy theories about FSG selling out and what not like I usually do. I already talked about Edwards and Hughes at the start of the window, last January as well about how this window is their finish.
I´ve not talked about how Slot actually fucked it up, despite my obvious dislike to him, he was on orders on how to build the team and he failed.
It´s not a surprise that the higher ups selected Iraola to manage the immediate future, we have been building up to this formation for the past 2 summer windows if not the last 3 actually.
Some of you don´t see a plan but here is Kerkez that excelled under Iraola, we got a similar midfield except world class talent, then we are building a offense around a new system where we do not need inverted wingers and you can´t see it.
No matter how many clues you see, about our potential profile for a player on the right, despite us buying Munoz, despite Iraola playing right footed wingers on the right. You just refuse the evidence and then compare these wingers to what Klopp wanted from our wingers.
Back then we had Bobby who is my favorite player of all times, IMHO he was better than Gerrard, he was even better than Daglish as a player. A false nine that dropped into midfield while we had two inverted wingers that made use of any space he created.
We saw much of the same with Diaz as a false nine except he liked to drift to the left wing way more than Bobby, which worked as Gakpo would cut inside into the space Diaz created. Then we had Salah in his twilight years just being smart with every touch he made on the ball. Like he knew he could not run at defenders like he used to so he just waited for his moments to create something for others or himself. Just a player evolving.
We have moved away from those inside cuts, we are trying to stretch the opposition, to make space for that fourth forward.
3ps pointed out the carries Barcola makes every game, I tried to explain how many carries actually end up in a shot on goal.
It does not really matter which flank he operates as long as we get two transitions which end up in a shot on goal. We are discussing outdated tactics vs the new one.

2nd September 2026 at 9:32 pm #255591I do concur with Bingo’s sentiments on Formation. My question is why do we have to follow the trail of 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1. Also my biggest ‘get on my nerves’ ‘false 9’ and ‘invert’.
Do you know now when I was growing up watching football, I had none of this. Who are we actually fooling here? Opposition teams just place a brick wall; we huff, and they hit us on the counter and score.
Jurgen played 4-2-4 when Luis Diaz was Signed. That was because we had at the time, Mane-Firmino-Salah.
As long as we play with the INTENSITY, Skill, Flair and the Spirit and Fight, I’m open to Ripping it all up and Starting All Over.

2nd September 2026 at 10:11 pm #255595Nil we are operating in a world right now where we pay world record fees for the players we want and we commit to 5-6 years for them, I don´t care about the system, stats or anything. I just wanna see our best eleven out there and when that happens we will beat any team this season!

2nd September 2026 at 10:22 pm #255597I know, I never saw much of Daglish, I just wanted to emphasize how much greater I think Bobby is than Gerrard. Daglish is the greatest legend Britain has ever spawned in the world of football. Both as a player and a manager but Bobby is my personal favorite and I think Daglish would agree if he had played with him. Cause it was not just about the no look goals, it was also about the no look nutmegs and I´ve never seen a player do more nutmegs than Bobby and he did it no look. He just knew where to nutmeg the player before receiving the ball. Not even Juninho did that when playing for Boro and that is my 2nd favorite Brazilian in the league. I actually think Gerrard and Bobby were at the same level, the difference in play though got my respect as Bobby never tried to do it on his own, he trusted his team mates and did it for them. That somehow makes Bobby the most perfect player I have ever seen play. If they had played together in a team, we would have gone unbeaten both in the league and champions league. I can see a striker like Torres or Suarez leading them and them just bulldozing every team they face into submission. You can´t find more powerful forwards than that. I am talking about prime Gerrard behind Torres.

2nd September 2026 at 11:08 pm #255598Our Last League Game win dates back to Saturday 25th April against Crystal Palace at Anfield.
Prior to that, it was at Everton.
You can appreciate our Supporters of their Aura at Anfield. It’s been a long time since we’ve registered a Victory. Both HOME and AWAY!!!

3rd September 2026 at 1:04 am #255609Then that system was from Klopp and not Slot, he inherited it and then managed to fuck it up while on holiday in Ibiza.
Slot inherited Klopp’s system, improved on it greatly by deploying Gravenberch as a No. 6 and Diaz as a No. 9 and won the Premier League so easily, the title was wrapped up by April.
Don’t know what “fuckkng it up” you’re talking about Notorious, when Slot won the league at his first attempt.

3rd September 2026 at 3:16 am #255614@songman youre wasting your time mate… notorious is the grand master of contradicting himself.. on one hand he says “i want to see the best 11 on the pitch, before i can judge” but he doesnt remember that slot NEVER got that opportunity all of last season.. NOT ONCE.
Like i said last season, when people have sinister agendas they dont give a flying fuck if you lay down the full facts.. theyre blinded by their hate. Slots gone, just like klopp.. we move on! I hope to god they give iraola time before we start hearing the usual noise of discontent from our so called “supporters”.
Iraolas already trumped slot for me by playing koumas, nyoni, rio and munoz… thats what i want to see, giving youth a chance. Cant wait for leoni to get back and other kids like abe and sonni lambi making a mark this season.
