Arsenal was surprising. I did not expect that. But then something Paul Merson mentioned in the Studio after the Liverpool game is something I latched onto. Villa weathered the early pressure. If you don’t get the early goal to settle the nerves (because let’s be honest, there will have been) then anxiety will creep in.
Liverpool have known to be Patient and that’s what has been lost. You’re wanting an outcome from the application of energy and pressing in rapid. I do see a slight similarity between the Gunners and ourselves as they’re relying on 2/3 regular names to make it happen. When it doesn’t the psychological effects manifest.

Some Context and Perspective. All the knives are starting to come out. The problem we experience is when it rains it pours. The United Cup game clearly affected us. We haven’t bounced back.
Also, trying to come from behind will eventually come back to bite you.
We’re in it, but hanging by the thread in the UEFA Cup. The League Mathematically is winnable being only 2 points behind which is better than 5 or 6 otherwise I personally would rule us out with only 6 games left to go.
It all hinges now quite simply trying to win every football match. If we do happen to turn it around this Thursday, this could lead to a major confidence restoring (something clearly lost in our camp). If we fail, but perform to our best, this will give us something to take into the Fulham game and we’ll be determined to win.
Beat Fulham convincingly and Everton, I have no doubt in us winning all our remaining matches. We’ll get it together. It has to be though, now or Never.

I’ve had a look at the fixtures and there I feel will be further twists. We need to take care of our own. I think between now and the end, we need to play our strongest team; perhaps change the formation/set up too; either a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1.
Get the predictability out and go for something with width and players that will be in the box to meet crosses/passes. Robertson really played out his skin and the fact that we didn’t concede and crumble any further should really be used as a positive and a platform to rebuild our confidence to rediscover our goals.

This isn’t a new problem at Liverpool. It seems to happen from time to time. Remember the 6 consecutive games at home we lost 3 years ago? I’ve just plucked this stat out from Opta posted 3 years ago from that period. Looks very familiar and we had a front 3 of Mane, Salah & Firmino for some of those games. I think that was down to the poor form/fatigue of those players 3 years ago. Similar to now arguably. If our strikers don’t perform well, the whole team suffers. Remember this stat below is from 3 years ago.

Wasn’t that period of 6 home defeats Mikus when all those defenders were injured also?
Palmer has been an absolute revelation this season. I feel you can’t give Chelsea much credit for that one because they’ve signed so many players for crazy amounts of money that there was always bound to be some success within all that, just on the balance of probability. He’s surely the signing of the season though.
