Bob – In fairness, the big money signings rarely provide value for money do they? You only have to go back to last season to see how disastrous Isak and Wirtz were for Liverpool to see what a bad policy it is. Don’t get me wrong i think £85m for that Fernands kid will work out to a good deal in the end. But Tonali for £100m and Anderson for £116? They’re not going to become £200m players are they? Even when City bought Grealish for no reason for £100m it didn’t really work out in the end.
I hope its a strategy that works and obviously we’ll have to be back in for a top midfielder in a couple of years to replace Tielemans – but if doing the midfield slightly cheaper allows us to sign players in other positions then i think it’s a decent plan for this summer.
