Great result for Chelsea last night. Who knew that when a club is allowed to spend a billion pounds a year they actually put together a pretty good team? A truly remarkable Fairytale story of the underdog.

9th July 2025 at 12:30 pm #221279Petty cash, like United most of the players they brought in are 2nd rate lower league quality if that.

9th July 2025 at 4:07 pm #221293Happy – things are simpler when a team can offload Mount onto a certain other club for $$$

11th July 2025 at 7:00 pm #221413Well I disagree about Mount. For me he was the closest central midfielder at Chelsea to Frank Lampard. I wanted him to stay to take the no:10 shirt but he left. And he simply was unlucky with injuries. I think Man Utd fans will see how good he is next season as he seems to have recovered from his injuries. But yeah with the amount of money that Chelsea spend, they need to sell.
And I also disagree about Chelsea team. We are decent, for sure, finished in the top 4, won the Conference League and now in the final of CWC. Pochettino, Maresca and the players have done quite well. But we are still very far from the top 3 Premier League Liverpool Arsenal and Man City. And with our transfer policy young players only: I don’t believe we will be anywhere near no:1 or no:2 next season.

12th July 2025 at 10:17 am #221422Aindro – At the very least its exciting! Not entirely convinced by Maresca but there’s certainly not a dull moment at Chelsea these days. Although i did have to laugh when i saw that you want ยฃ100m for Jackson!! ๐
Hope you’re right about Mount. Seems like a good lad and we’ve seen glimpses of quality but can’t stay fit for more than a month for the last 2 years. So frustrating.

12th July 2025 at 1:34 pm #221427Fucking amazing how Wirtz, Frimpong, Ait Nouri, Kerkez, Elanga, Gittens, Reijnders, Cherki, Zubimendi, Delap, Joao Pedro, Norgaard all get done within fucking days. And whatโs the betting the Arse will bag Madueke, Gyokeres and possibly Eze before we close the Mbeumo deal?

12th July 2025 at 1:44 pm #221428JM – it’s almost like united are run by people that dont realise the importance of a full pre-season

12th July 2025 at 2:35 pm #221430Well why the fuck do we have? And if we canโt stump up another couple of million, why the fuck are we hanging around? May as well pull out and go for someone cheaper. But you know what, everyone knows itโs only a matter of time before we cough up, we always do, so why not just do it and move on – or move away?

12th July 2025 at 3:48 pm #221431Assuming this discussion is genuine and not intended to belittle Chelsea fans or stem from jealousy, I would argue that spending money is one thing, while achieving desired results is another. Many clubs are investing heavily these days, but only a few are making wise investments. Chelsea, in particular, is often seen as a benchmark for overspending. While thereโs some truth to this view, itโs important to recognize that football has increasingly become a business; generally, the more you spend, the greater the potential rewards.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement from Manchester United, there have been more misses than hits in player acquisitions. The club has spent over a billion on players that Ferguson would likely not have considered, yet the team is far from the level expected of the biggest club in England. In contrast, I see Liverpool as an example of a well-run club; they consistently make smart investments and compete every year. Perhaps Chelsea’s ownership aims to reach that level of success.
When examining player sales over the last decade, Chelsea ranks at the top, while United is at the bottom. Chelsea has sold numerous players while spending a billion, and people often focus solely on that expenditure. However, itโs important to note that Chelsea has generated nearly 800 million from player sales since the new ownership took over. On the other hand, I canโt recall many players from United who were sold for a profit in the last decade, with Romelu Lukaku being a notable exception. Most have been offloaded at a loss.
Iโm not suggesting that Chelseaโs new ownership is perfect, as Roman Abramovich was for the club, but they do have a clear plan. They have introduced financial discipline, reduced the wage bill, signed young and ambitious players, and appointed a promising young coach. These actions reflect thoughtful planning rather than mere spending. If Chelsea were to breach the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability regulations or Financial Fair Play rules, they would likely face sanctions from UEFA, FIFA, or the Premier League. However, the current Chelsea owners are navigating the existing loopholes effectively, which is a savvy approach.
In contrast, Manchester United’s ownership appears to be selling shares without a clear plan for the club’s future. Ferguson’s remarkable work once masked the underlying issues, but now that he’s gone, the ownership’s shortcomings are becoming evident.

12th July 2025 at 5:45 pm #221438For all the players they signed, I still dont think Chelsea are anywhere near challenging for the title. They spent more than ยฃ220m on just two midfielders but I wouldnt even rank their midfield as the best in the league. Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and City have all spent over ยฃ100m on a single player.

12th July 2025 at 6:18 pm #221440I kinda agree devil. Those guys are self made billionaires, you would think they know how to do spend money wisely. They bought a lot of rubbish with some good ones. Still they have had some reasonable success. Not in the same class as City or Liverpool though.

13th July 2025 at 11:02 am #221451This thread was set up in the Man Utd forum for United fans to discuss “Rivals” as we had a similar page previously. But fans from other sites do normally jump in with comments from time to time.

13th July 2025 at 12:56 pm #221453That’s why I agree with whoever it was that suggested have each club on different pages and if its a comment made for all to see then it can be posted on the General page. We also occasionally posting on the wrong forum for another reason.
