Goose…. Dirty Sanchez’s weekly dosh of 600k a week was worked out from the weekly salary, combined with his signing on fee’s and supposed image rights… all added up over 4,5 years and then divided by 234 weeks… it came to something like 576,000 actually… but it’s all rumors and nonsense… and cash!

Golide… I rephrased that, what I was implying (badly) is that if a club is offering really double stupid salaries, then players are more likely to move there as it’s all about the cash, rather than the club.

I never buy for one minute when a player suddenly becomes a fan when he signs for a club (any player or any club). You’re 100% right about players moving onto bigger clubs, that’s how the game works, but when you’re talking about salaries that are quite incomprehensible to us mortals, I reckon the mind works differently to a degree. A pint of milk is the same whether you earn 20k a year or 600k a week.

That’s the thing about perspectives, everybody has one.

I could very easily suggest that having finished 3rd then 2nd in the last two years, being down in 5th would suggest my Spuds are also having a poor season, so Chelsea’s decade worth of double the salary spend and triple transfer fund to end up only 1 point in front of the Spuds is not exactly a stellar performance!

But I won’t…. 🙂

See your point, but I’ll try and rephrase it a bit… it’s not just about going after players, it’s the type of players you go after. If you go after “Superstar” players, you’re going to pay superstar wages, and have to deal with superstar ego’s…

Granted, your mob have won a few pots, but how long can you keep repeating this cycle?

And I wouldn’t say this is strained chummy, if anything it’s an actual debate!

Peggy… yeap, I guess that one went over certain peoples heads! (Unlike Goose’s thong which is normally round his ankles, the little tart!) As for loyalty, call me a romantic (or an idiot!) but I do like to think there is more in the game than we possibly give them credit for.

Goldie… granted, apart from Harry they were all bought (as are about 98% of players in the Prem) but rather than spend top whack on a ready-made replacement like certain clubs, how many of the team you mentioned above, were bought dare I say out the bargain bucket and “moulded” to a degree? Sure, before you say, that might be due to not having/willing to spend the money on top door players, but I think Spuds have shown throwing serious amounts of money at players isn’t the only way to go.

Interesting comments about motivation above, for what’s it worth, I’m guessing the vast majority of Chelski players are easily in the 100k plus bracket when it comes to wages, some considerably higher, and they’ll get that regardless. And as we saw last night, the risk of losing Top4 wasn’t much of a motivation anyway. Chelski do have a seriously tough run of matches after the WBA next week (away to both Manc Clubs and then the Spuds!), with the small matter of a double header with Barca thrown in. If they can’t motivate themselves against Watford…

And as for wanting CL next year, I wonder exactly how loyal these players are to Chelsea… it’s not as though many of them didn’t jump ship quick enough to sign on to HMS Chelsea…

Peggy.. in my defense it was kinda coming across like net spend doesn’t count if you buy rubbish… 🙂

And yes, paying players over the odds to make your club possibly look more attractive than it is, is going to attract a few players with one eye on their bank account. At least at my Spuds you kinda know the players want to be there, it isn’t about the cash as such. I mean, Sanchez is a prime example, everybody and his dog thought he was going to your mob but 600k a week later, he’s suddenly a YooUtd fan! 🙂

Peggy… sorry chumster, are yuou trying to say us paupers should feel sorry for teams who’ve spent 500million on rubbish and forgot where they put the receipts? Good one.. The fact they bought rubbish doesn’t distract from the fact they still went out and bought a coach load of players and by hook or by crook should be streets ahead of teams that didn’t…

And as much as it comes to blowing my own trumpet, dare I suggest you all look no further than the mighty Spuds for an indication on how to put the “team” in “team”, won sod all mind you (thought I’d say it first! 🙂 )

Do we really have to have the net spend argument again? It’s about as relevant as what I had for breakfast (pancakes btw!).

Team A spends 500m on players, but sold 480 million, net = 20

Team B spends 100, on players, but sold 50 million, net = 50

Team A should still be fooking streets ahead of TEAM B as they BOUGHT 500 million worth of players!! 🙂

Got to disagree Wasplicker, it’s not Roman who needs to support the manager, it’s the players. They’ve down tools (again) and thrown their toys out the pram. There’s certainly a pattern showing at Chelsea, when the going gets tough, the players give-up and take the rest of the season off, while waiting for a new manager…. this isn’t the first time..
