I don’t think whoever was appointed at Norwich would have too much chance of keeping them up they will need a miracle.

15th November 2021 at 5:33 am #188968AnonymousYa, I imagine they are going to use the money they get from this and next season, with a view to going back up again. They still have the parachute payment system? If so, it kinda makes sense, plus the fact that the PL is getting more competitive, it kinda makes it harder for promoted teams to ever have a chance of staying up.
I was just looking at the table. I tell you what, Rafa and Rodgers are going to need results to start going their way soon, Rafa especially. I dont think either club will go pulling the trigger but the Everton fans will start to turn and they kinda started well too. It’s just fallen apart there. Kinda surprisingly really, as you’d say they are better than this.

15th November 2021 at 7:55 am #188971Problem is Mak that’s been Norwich’s strategy the last two times they were promoted and relegated and it’s not worked for them primarily because they haven’t invested sufficiently in the squad to give them a fighting chance of staying up.

15th November 2021 at 11:38 am #188974At Norwich, I also think there’s an element of wanting to play attractive football whatever the cost to entertain the fans. Even though Chris Hughton kept them up some years ago, I believe some fans hated the miserable type of football they say they used to play to survive.

15th November 2021 at 10:20 pm #188990AnonymousYa Nine, they’ve got to really have a go one of these seasons, as they might not keep getting chances. At some point, it seems liek it’s more going to plan, rather than being the build up to something.

4th December 2021 at 1:30 pm #190568AnonymousI wonder how much longer Rafa will be in a job? He’s got to start getting results but he’s playing Arsenal this GW, with Chelsea after Palace and then Leicester.
I can’t see him getting anything from Arsenal or Chelsea. I’d say Rafa might get the sack soon.

4th December 2021 at 1:42 pm #190570Granted his squad deficiencies, I think the problem for Rafa is in this era of high intensity pressing & fast football, you need a manager to really galvanize a dressing room with passion & motivation. I don’t think man management has ever been his strong point. A big reason I think for Gerrard’s good start at Villa is precisely because of that – there is a real hunger and desire in that Villa side now. With Rafa, that kind of more calm, tactical management with more school teacher like instructions (I would presume) really struggles in this climate of fast paced, more no holds barred culture.

4th December 2021 at 2:32 pm #190612AnonymousIt’s definitely a weakness of his and time has also moved on, tactically. I still think he’s got it in him, if he can earn himself some time. These fixtures are damn tough, just when he needs them to not be.
I’m really routing for Rafa. Once a legend, always a legend. He’s got so much respect for the city too, it would just be a shame for him to not have that respect coming back from the blue half. It might be enough for him to move away permanently and that’d be a shame.

“Jose Mourinho has emerged as a potential target for Everton if they decide to pull the plug on Rafa Benitez’s reign” 😀

6th December 2021 at 7:27 am #190760I can’t see Everton fans ever taking to Rafa that “Everton are a small Club” comment is a difficult one to forgive by the fans, there’s a planned walk out by fans on the 27th minute of the Arsenal game tonight which is broader than just Rafa but it won’t help Everton tonight and Brands resigned yesterday.
All in all it’s a bit of a mess which many predicted it would be on Rafa’s appointment but he probably deserves the chance to try and turn things around but he will always struggle to get the Everton fans on side because they didn’t want him in the first place.
