Won’t get into the maguire debate again Ed but I was criticising him well before this season. He’s made loads of mistakes in his first two seasons. We defer in opinion but I’ll never rate him but who am I 😂

FairPlay for sticking to your guns Ed. On my utd fan on here but always up for a debate and talk a lot of sense.

Good to hear shaw speak about jones in good terms. He’s deserves a break. Shaw was eluding to a divide in the team though. Interesting stuff

Msk, I think mctwoniey is good aswell. Tough and can pass. Shaw was the best left back last season . He was fully fit and stayed out of Burger King and was flying. His first injury free season in a while. He’s been injured this season. Good to hear him being honest in his interview

I don’t think Rangnick was ever the answer he was a Sporting Director not a Manager he hadn’t managed since 2019 and he’s never really managed at the highest level.

He might want to go past the end of this season and he hinted at recommending he be appointed in the Summer but not living up to expectations is probably in United’s best interests Ole and Rangnick have both been interim appointments and United need to bring in a proper Manager now and back him but Rangnick in the background could make things messy and put off potential new Managers too.

Ragnick only makes sense if utd are being in poch or a manager who plays the same style of football in my opinion nine mate.

He is highly rated in the game but some of the stuff spoken about him is he is like some renaissance man. Klopp learned his trade from Wolfgang frank and was a huge admirer of sacchi. Did tuchel play under ragnick?

As Ed says, you could see ragnick style in the first half v palace but what’s happened since?

For the squad they have, utd are poor. Really poor.

I said it at the time he joined Sean that it reminds me a bit of the whole Bielsa thing. Pep and Poch seem to almost worship the guy. Supposedly the Godfather of their styles. Yet what has Bielsa actually won? Leeds are one of the easiest sides in the league to play against.

I don’t doubt that Rangnick has been a big inspiration to the German managers in the league. In particular Tuchel and Nagelsmann.

Here’s what Rangnick said about his and Klopp’s relationship:

My Hoffenheim team played against Jurgen’s Borussia Dortmund back in 2008. We beat them 4-1 and Jurgen (below) said a week later, before his next game, that our style was exactly the kind of football that he wanted to play with Dortmund.

Within two years, he had transformed the team and had them playing with that style of play – and, eventually, there came success. They won two consecutive Bundesliga titles – in 2011 and 2012 – as well as the German Cup in 2012.

So he didn’t mentor/coach Klopp in the way he did with Tuchel and Nagelsmann but Klopp suggested Rangnick might be the “One of, if not the best German Coach”. Yet to see any evidence that he is that, but we’ll see.

I said when he came in that he didn’t have the players to play that type of football and that looks to be the case. The question is how much he’s willing to adapt his game because he isn’t there long enough to completely transform the side.

Have to say it. I thought Jones was United’s best player!
On Ronaldo. Great goalscorer but at his age limited running is understandable. He would never have worked for Pep who demands 100% chasing. I also think that he expects to play every game. What I have noticed from him is a lot of head shaking.
I know I said it yesterday but what has happened to Rashford.

Football’s not a complicated game, but for some reason it’s otherwise made out to be by different quarters. I see this with my own team at times and it baffles me when a player will just ‘assume’. Basic Vocal Communication on the pitch. Look up, make eye contact, speak and tell them your intentions.

I’ve seen it at times in a situation where the Keeper then has to mop up. You’ve got to be synced in understanding one another in the training ground to then transmit that familiarity in real time.

Read situations and the game. Me personally to resent this ‘phenomenon’ whether or not it is contemporary or the norm of the modern game, but the ‘pressing’ and high tempo isn’t suited to all. Sustaining and Consistency.

Interestingly, Klopp said similar to this in his early days at Liverpool, lamenting the physicality of the league and something that took him some time to adapt to.

I could actually envisage a future whereby non oil state-owned clubs come together to form a Super League-esque bond and take a joint stand against what is, essentially, sportswashing. Nothing at all against the fans of these clubs, especially the City fans on here but this is just so wrong.

Ed. You may be right but to have everybody on an equal footing was what FFP is about Trouble is its design was there just to suit established clubs with influence. Thus it could never work. I’m quite in favour of a form of FFP but it must be FAIR. It is easy to set fair parameters but those would have to include standard accounting ratios including debt:equity. If you need confirmation look at the demise of Barca £1.5billion in debt unable to register a player. There also has to be leeway for recent takeovers such as Newcastle and Southampton to be able to create a “new” club.
As with any business takeovers do occur and here looked at by the MMC. Often a takeover with the injection of new capital leads to success. BUT I believe it has to be equity not debt. United’s problem.

Adlab, I’d love them to bring in something against debt if it means the Glazers are forced out. It would be great. I don’t care how much success they bring or don’t bring. They’re scum. Can you say the same thing about your owners? I know I can 🙂.

Talk about FFP having been brought in to ensure the top clubs remain top clubs all you want but has that happened? Utd, Madrid, Milan, Barcelona were probably the strongest European sides when FFP was brought in. Done them all a great favour hasn’t it? They’re all crap now 😆 and much less powerful than pre-FFP.

Mike, I’d never go that far. City have done wonderful things on the pitch. That, and all the things they’ve done off the pitch in the surrounding areas is impressive.

Still, that doesn’t take anything away from the fact that them, the PSG owners and Newcastle owners shouldn’t be in the game. It’s sportswashing. They’re all very dark regimes.

Hi Ed, I really didn’t want to get into this argument, hence the short comment earlier 😉 So I’ll just say this and then get back to talking football. It’s not sports washing, it’s jealousy. If it’s an issue with the oil money then I’m assuming the only people moral enough to comment are driving electric cars, because everyone seems happy enough to fund these terrible regimes every time they fill up at the pump. If its an issue with the humanitarian rights of the countries the respective owners come from then raise it with the UK government as they allow all forms of trade with those nations; its nothing to do with the football clubs who are legally available to buy by anyone. Is the American money in the EPL fine at Liverpool, Arsenal, Utd, Burnley (US use of the death penalty, abortion rights, Guantanamo/Geneva convention issues, the only nation to use atomic weapons, and on civilian targets, etc)? You then have Iranian money at Everton, Egyptian money at Villa, Russian money at Chelsea, Chinese money at Wolves? Are these all ok? Is it just oil money that is an issue? To look at your own club, Utd have had a monopoly and billions to spend (or more recently waste) since they decided to start the football gravy train; first club to float on the stock exchange, build a superstore, merchandise and sponsor everything and anything they could to make money off…as I said, City didn’t break football, it was this way when we got here, and it’s a bit rich to blame us now (pun very much intended) 🙂

Liverpool have made a formal request to postpone Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Arsenal because of an increase in Covid-19 cases at the club.

The Reds cancelled first-team training on Tuesday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp missed Sunday’s Premier League draw at Chelsea following a suspected positive test.

Players Alisson, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino also missed the game while three members of staff tested positive.
