Nike, Sir Cliff is a traditional love amongst the family past and present, Shaking Stevens though not iconic also had a distinctly special sound with his merry melodies. Personally re rock from the past I’m more into Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Pink Floyd all favorite groups, and even before my time Cream were the geniuses that started it all. Pity they never made more albums.

Blaze, not sure Cream started it all, music evolves. In the late sixties this evolution sped up with bands like Cream over here and Blue Cheer in the states, but you can trace their influences back even further….Pagan

Pagan yes you can trace influences as far as who knows when but Cream was the biggest progressive rock to first hit the air waves, I know there was also the likes John Mayall etc etc but they were mainly blues rock, as far as I know Cream was the first real progressive rock sound, they were way ahead of their time. Maybe there were others, I don’t really know before my time but that Cream album one never gets tired of listening to it despite its age.

“The world’s first supergroup, Cream existed for barely two years in the late 60s, and in their lifetime recorded just two full studio albums. You won’t find them featured in any of those chart lists or ubiquitous cheapo-TV The Top 100 Something-or-other shows. Ask most people under 30 about the music of Cream and they’ll think you’re talking about the Liverpool/Ibiza dance club.

Within a couple of days of news leaking out in 2005 year that Cream were playing London’s Royal Albert Hall, all the tickets had gone. At £50-£125 they weren’t cheap to start with, but within a month a web search would find you a seat in the front stalls selling for £1,700, and a restricted-view from the balcony at around £350. A box? Don’t ask.”

Cream were unique and not to many other than perhaps the Stones could sell out the Albert Hall almost 40 years after they were formed.

I try and add something new to my overall collection – was looking at the ‘Brit Pop’ stuff from the 90s and the stuff played at Glastonbury and V Festivals.

Been looking at a bit of Pulp and Shed Seven.

Pagan, yep I would rank Zeppelin up there alongside Cream as one of the biggest and most influential Bands of all time. Both were marginally bigger than Blue Cheer don’t you think and far more influential.

9, the statement wasn’t about popularity it was about innovation, Blue Cheer were unbelievably heavy for the late sixties, as were others like Iron Butterfly, they were one side of the Atlantic and Cream this side…..Pagan

Neither though would be considered as influential as Cream though Pagan.

Let’s go back to the very beginning Blaze was right and I doubt too many credit Blue Cheer over Cream for starting the heavier style of music.

If you don’t agree with the above that’s fine we’ll just have to agree to disagree! 😊🎸🎸🎸🎸
